UH...
Dudley Dursley woke up to see a giant eye peering through his bedroom window. He opened his mouth to scream for his mother, but all
he got out was "Muh." The eye blinked. Dudley ran from the room, screaming, trying to protect his enormous arse with his fat little hands. "HAR-REEEEEEEEE-"
Pieces of the ceiling began to fall on Dudley. As he watched, the
entire ceiling was ripped away; he found himself staring at a patch
of sky that was not an Earth color, not unless he had slept through a
major nuclear war. The sky was now bright pink. Then an enormous,
scaly hand picked him out of the house. Before he could protest this
treatment, the alien popped him into his mouth, bit down once-CRRUNCH-
and swallowed Dudley in one gulp. Hours later, when he excreted
the Dudster's remains, the whole mess became a component of the Martian soil and the alien danced a scary alien dance-
Harry sat up,poised to scream. He realized that he had not had a nightmare, and instead lay there in thoughtful reflection. Hedwig
hopped onto the bed. She held a letter in her beak. "C'mere," Harry
said. He fed her a strip of chicken he'd managed to purloin and
she nibbled it all up. Hedwig rubbed her head against Harry's cheek.
"Not much longer,Hedwig," he said. "Soon we'll be out of here, back
where we both belong."
"I know," Hedwig said. "I can feel it."
"Buh...wha...whuh...you talk?"
"Sometimes." Her voice was whispery, yet high pitched.
"You've never talked before."
"Usually,you're asleep when I'm able."
"Well...is there anything you want to tell me?"
"Not really," she said. "Thank you for the chicken."
"You're welcome. I put new water in your cage."
"Thanks. Oh," she said. "Here,a letter from Hagrid."
He took the letter from her.
"I've always liked Hagrid," she said. "I remember when he came into
the shop and bought me. He was so friendly. Errch. Reep. I can feel
the speech leaving me,Harry."
"I'm glad we talked," Harry said. "You're a magnificent bird,Hedwig.
I love you."
"And I love you,Harry. It's an honor being your companion."
She hooted gently in his ear,and let him carry her back to the cage.
He watched her drink some water, and then turned his attention to
the letter from Hagrid.
Harry,
I just had the weirdest dream. You were in a hospital and the muggles
kept amputating your arms and legs and replacing them with other
stuff, like bamboo rods and lifesize toy parts. If you're okay, please
write me back. It was a real nightmare to see you like that, even if
it wasn't real.
Harry sat himself down and wrote Hagrid a letter telling him he was
absolutely fine and that he'd see him soon. He opened Hedwig's cage.
"Take this to Hagrid," he said. She took the letter, hopped onto the windowsill, and took off. Harry watched her until she was a silhouette
on the moon and went back to bed.
