'know your enemy', your father says

by reila robyn

Category: Romance/Angst

Rating: G, really; it's PG just… because. Just because.

Author's Notes: This is… it's strange. I don't know what this is. I hope you like it, though.

He's breathing hard, and you know he's more winded than you'd like to admit, and he's staring down at your cut lip with nothing short of remorse in his green eyes- those eyes are almost too green. They're eerie.

And you look up at him looking down at you, and you know he's sorry and that he doesn't know it's so easy to tell he is, and you look at him- into him, rather, because it's all you can do looking in those eyes- and you think, This is why he could never be a Slytherin.

"Malfoy," he says, and as soon as it's out of his mouth the green orbs cloud in confusion, and once again, his eyes betray the fact that he has no idea what he was going to say to you.

"P- Potter," you say back, and you don't look away, because you can tell everything you ever needed to know in those eyes.

Know your enemy, your father says.

Harry Potter reaches down and touches the place where your lip is cut with a calloused finger, and wipes a bit of the blood away.

Did he really expect me not to bleed if he hit me? you think, and it is clear he did from the look on his face; he's eyeing the blood with an expression akin to wonder.

Those eyes.

You take in a breath to say something else, and he runs a few fingers across your smooth, pale cheek, and your eyes are drawn to the lovely contrast.

He's dark, you think idly, and I'm light.

He laughs, and you are surprised to find that you said that aloud, and you are more surprised to find that your hand is clasped with his.

"It won't work tomorrow," he tells you hoarsely, and you tell him, I know, and you run your fingers through his hair.

That was ridiculously short; actually, it was just ridiculous in general. Well, review it anyway. Had to get it out of my system, I guess.
