A Light to Balance the Shadows

As the Master Sword clattered to the ground it seemed all hope was lost.  A half-consious Link lying near a window in the castle floating over a lake of lava, Ganon's castle.  Ganon himself stood in the middle of the massive chamber, debris strewn about as evidence of the quarrel.  Zelda sat in her cage, little more than a pet for the monster.

Now all began to glow golden with the Triforce piece each had been entrusted with.  Wise Zelda, powerful Ganon and courageous Link, all were focused as Ganon prepared to make his wish.

So very easily had Bowser stolen the Star Rod from the Star Spirits yet again. Now no one would stop him from making his wish.  He smiled down upon the unsuspecting lands and held the Star Rod high in the air.

The air grew thick with magic and Link slowly rose to his feet, picking up the Master Sword once again.  Ganon roared with his triumph unknowing that it was to be so shortlived.  The soft leather boots carried Link soundlessly behind Ganon.  Link leapt bringing the point of the Master Sword, that greatest of weapons, down into Ganon's skull.  The entire length of the blade shattered, it's pieces scattered wildly, even the hilt broken off at the grip of the weapon.  Ganon turned, a single blow from his mighty forearm sending Link into the wall with a sickening sound.  Link fell lifeless to the floor, the grip of the Master Sword clutched in hand, blood flowing freely from his shoulder.  Zelda lay lifeless in a pool of her own blood, now spilling out of the cage, her chest pierced by a shard of the weapon that was to save her.

Ganon's change came more quickly now, no hint of his former humanity remained.  The golden light burning over his form and morphing it, warping it, slowly reshaping him into a new form, his back hardening into a shell, and wicked spikes covering it.  While Ganon's new form emerged, Link's eyes opened, half lidded, and he too began to glow slightly.  Ganon bellowed his fury, his new, hideous, form taken and the light settled into a gauntlet of midnight and gold.  The massive white blast that was loosed from the gauntlet clinging to Ganon's mighty hand enveloped Link and reached across the sky.  When the dust settled there was no trace of him to be found and Ganon roared in triumph.

Leo looked again into the mirror.  The wish had to have backfired, but how was that possible?  His Bowser form stripped away?  And now his human form's skin tinted a faint olive green and his golden hair made reddish bronze?  And somehow the Star Rod broken?  Remade into this, this cloak?  It did fit perfectly and he felt it looked quite handsome in it.  Midnight blue and the purest gold, it had an effect, Leo was sure of it.  And what was this new power coursing through his veins?  Leo sighed deeply.  He needed a new name that was for certain.  He smiled evilly.  Leon.  That would suffice.

Hurtled through the sky Link though back, what had gone wrong? The Master Sword was broken, but why did he feel stronger somehow?  His eyes opened and he realized he wasn't in Hyrule any longer.  This has to be a dream, he told himself.  Slowly Link fell to the ground.  There was a massive expanse of water and an island.  Link fell closer and closer, his eyes closing again.  He didn't see the house when he went into its wall, he didn't see the girl as he flew through the house and out the other wall.  Further still he flew, landing heavily in the water and losing consiousness.  The last thing he though before the darkness took him was, who am I?
