Farewells
They trickle like tears,
Grey-shining reminders of days of glory.
Somehow it saddens the heart
Despite the gladness of their singing-
Suddenly life seems bittersweet.
Starlight leaves with them,
And the world is dimmer,
Despite the light of the sun and the moon.
Despite the continuation of life.
There is an emptiness now
That we did not know had been filled by them,
For starlight has faded
And silver-shining is gone.
Farewell,
To glory that faded over the years
Yet remained no less beautiful,
Even in its autumn.
Farewell,
To fading starlight
As it vanishes over a distant horizon.
The air seems silent,
Sad,
A vacuum where their singing once filled it.
Farewell, fair ones.
O Firstborn, Farewell.
They trickle like tears,
Grey-shining reminders of days of glory.
Somehow it saddens the heart
Despite the gladness of their singing-
Suddenly life seems bittersweet.
Starlight leaves with them,
And the world is dimmer,
Despite the light of the sun and the moon.
Despite the continuation of life.
There is an emptiness now
That we did not know had been filled by them,
For starlight has faded
And silver-shining is gone.
Farewell,
To glory that faded over the years
Yet remained no less beautiful,
Even in its autumn.
Farewell,
To fading starlight
As it vanishes over a distant horizon.
The air seems silent,
Sad,
A vacuum where their singing once filled it.
Farewell, fair ones.
O Firstborn, Farewell.
