HORROR IN THE MANSION
part II

'Twas a dark and rainy evening
In the middle of September
But it was quite warm and cozy
In the Library of Arkham
I was sitting in the corner
And it looked like I was reading

Yet the reasons that had brought me
Here were far from bibliophilic
My fair readers, do not blame me
Try to understand my motives
Think: how can a man be stronger
Than his mastermind obsession?

Once successful in my business
I was forced to close the factory
For I could no longer think of
Enterprise and making money
Common sense was lost completely
It surrendered to its conqueror

Yes, I was a slave of passion
Of an enigmatic feeling
Every night I had that vision
Every night I saw her dancing
On a clearing in a forest
Right beside the flaming bonfire

Wild, half wrapped in robes, half naked
Bracelets covering her forearms
Perfect body, strong and dexterous
Flaming eyes that reached the furthest
Corners of my soul; her features
Strangely seemed aristocratic

This is just a humble portrait
Of the woman that I dreamt of
Of the woman that I craved for
Of the woman that I worshiped
Looks like Gods had finally heard me
For I found here - in Arkham

...I was sitting in the corner
And it looked like I was reading
But in fact my eyes were watching
The librarian's assistant
It was her - my Esmeralda
My newfound, my maddening savage

Suddenly she turned toward me
Smiled and said, "How can I help you?"
I was shocked, I mumbled something
Grabbed my suitcase and rushed outwards
Still I saw her eyes - they told me
More than words - she recognized me

I went roaming through the city
All strung up and slightly frightened
Northern wind, it bit me bitter
And the rain, it clawed upon me
Finally my mind grew clearer
I returned and started waiting

Hours passed and then I saw her
Moving slowly in the moonlight
She looked tired, yet very graceful
Having gathered all my bravery
I stepped out of my concealment
"Pardon me", I hailed her shyly

"Very well", I heard her whisper
"After all you've got the courage"
I was stunned, somehow I managed
To exclaim, "But you don't know me!"
"Yes, I know you, Mr. Lovecraft"
I grew sick and she continued

"Now that you have come to Arkham
Now that we have got acquainted
Why are you so frightened of me?
Aren't I your arcane obsession?
I have got so much to show you
Come with me, I'm getting angry"

Then she took my hand and led me
Down the narrow streets of Arkham
Past the docks of Miskatonic
'Cross the bridge and 'round the graveyard
Silent shadows followed after
Moving swiftly 'tween the bushes

Then we came up to the hilltop
And I saw a hoary mansion
Standing lonely in the barren
She unlocked the door, we entered
"Be my guest", she said, "don't shiver
After all, it's you who found me"

I remember sumptuous bedrooms
Sheets of silk and aery pillows
Smell of incense from her body
Inmost treasures of her bosom
Hard embraces, deepest kisses
Blessedness of being inside her

But we somehow crossed the boundary
'Tween the sides of our existence
I prefer to think I'm dreaming
It's not real! It's just a nightmare!
Where am I? Why does this clearing
Look familiar? What is burning?

There she is! Why is she naked?
She is dancing all around me
She has stopped, she's coming nearer
I can see the signs that cover
All her skin from toes to nipples
Petrified, I cannot scurry

"Cthulhu f'tagn", she yells, "Ka nama!"
What is that? She rubs her stomach
"They commanded me to name him
Howard Phillips" Is she joking?
"Now your part is over, Lovecraft"
I begin to smell the naphtha

Author's comments:
Having written this I counted the stanzas in each part. It wasn't done on purpose and that is what frightens me most.
Anyway, Ia Ia Shub-Niggurath!
