This takes place a little after Rose gets to New York. She is making her way, as a maid for rich ladies. She is struggling with the loss of Jack when she finds she is pregnant. This is just an idea that came to me when I was watching the movie. What would have happened if she HAD gotten pregnant? So enjoy. R&R.
Chapter one
Rose finished lacing up Old Lady Johnstone's corset with a final, vengeful tug. The woman had given her nothing but misery. Rose was of half the mind to quit her. But she couldn't. The Johnstones where her only possible way of making money. She had been searching for a job, and had finally found one. She couldn't risk it. Rose needed to support herself. "Goodness, girl. You needn't be so harsh. It IS only a corset," Mrs. Johnstone chuckled to herself. "Sorry, Madam. I just thought you wanted to be as slim as possible," Rose tried to be nice. "You are dismissed, Rose. Go," she waved her hand absent mindedly. "Clean something, will you?" Rose quietly walked out of the room, struggling to hold down her anger. She knew that, once, she had been this way to maids. Her mother more so. Thank goodness she had met Jack, and tamed those wild feelings of superiority. Jack. Rose had managed to avoid thinking of him, what with all her cleaning, and dressing, and cooking. Jack Dawson had been the love of her life. She had lost him, a year ago, when the Titanic sank. She ran a rag over the highly polished mantel of the Johnstone's massive living room fireplace. The golden frames held pictures of the sons and daughters of the family. They looked stiff, porcelain. Rose shook her head. A Jack Dawson portrait would have done them nicely. Maybe one of their eldest daughter, Lizbette. Rose laughed to herself, some red curls falling in her face. Then suddenly, she felt sick. More sick than she had ever felt. Rose ran the bathroom, sicker than ever before.
Chapter two
Pregnant.
The word kept flashing across her mind. How could she be? The baby's father was dead. It was obviously Jack's; she had never done ANY thing with Cal. Even if it was, she hadn't seen Cal since the Carpathia.
