ABANDONING REASON
She sat in the chair next to O'Neill, and sighed heavily, remembering how The Fifth had smiled at her just before they had left. He had trusted her, and she had betrayed that so willingly. How could she have done that?
She knew how. She had followed orders, as she usually did. But on this occasion, that order had been wrong, and she shouldn't have followed it so blindly. She felt retched.
Major Samantha Carter remembered how The Fifth had shared his subconscious mind with her, and had agreed to help them. She had taken that opportunity to tell him that -despite what he had always been told- he had not been created wrong. He was not flawed.
But Jack hadn't cared. Colonel O'Neill had also taken the opportunity to get rid of the Replicators once and for all, winning the day, and getting on the good side of Thor and the rest of the Asguard.
Sam did not agree, and she knew she was not alone in that opinion. Looking across the bride, she saw the melancholy expression of Jonas Quinn as he sat and stared at the console in front of him.
She sighed again, looking to Teal'c. As always, the dark face was void of any expression, failing to betray his feeling and thoughts to the outside world.
How could he do that? She found herself envying him.
And then there was Jack, who sat stoically staring out into, literally, space. A field of stars swam around them as they travelled back to Thor's ship. Jack obviously found this mesmerising.
She knew he didn't care about hurting The Fifth, who had been so close to human that Sam would have believed he was had she not have known previously.
How could I have done something so heartless? The thought chattered through her mind again and again. She prided herself on thinking things through, and taking the logical course of action, one that would be beneficial for all the ones involved. But not on this occasion. No, this had been different.
She had taken Jack's advice. She had abandoned the most amazing life form she had ever come across. Now he was destined to a life of captivity. Or even death at the hands of his fellow Replicators. No doubt they had discovered his treachery by now.
Wiping away a tear that threatened to flow, Sam turned her attention back on monitoring the X303's systems.
But it didn't help.
All she could think about was that trusting smile.
