Leonardo and the Man on the Moon
The moon was full tonight. Making everything clear and crisp in the forest. As he made his way up to his quiet place, he couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Warily he turned around and looked deep within the forest and beyond, until thoroughly satisfied that he was alone. Certain that he was, he turned back the direction he was heading, and climbed up the few feet to the top of the boulder. When he was settled, his gaze rose to the sky and became fixated on the moon. It was breath taking. Its massiveness seemed to make everything else seem insignificant. Oh if it were only that easy. He sighed deeply and closed his eyes.
"Man on the Moon?"
There was a slight pause, as if he could hear the great man address him. Then he continued.
"Will I ever feel complete in life? Will I find that one person that could make me feel whole? I feel so alone anymore. Michelangelo has become a famous poetry artist and has now moved away. Content with everything around him. Donatello is finishing up his degree in science and technology at one of the top colleges in the world. And good old Raphael has actually settled down and started his own business in guitar making. Splinter passed away about a month ago and now I am hear left alone, pondering where the road of life will take me now."
Another silent pause, as he gazed up looking at the moon diligently. Waiting for the answers of life to be given to him. But nothing came but the whispering of the wind, and the rustle of the leaves as they shivered from the onset of a cold winter soon to come.
What she wouldn't give to be able to speak to him. To assure him that life had great things waiting for him. More than anything she wanted to tell him that she was there. But how could she? She didn't even know if this was real or not. She felt as if she were watching everything through a window. She sighed softly and wished madly to the moon that she could tell her hero that he was not alone…
A sudden overwhelming urge told him that he was not alone. Swiftly he turned around and peered intently into the dense forest, desperately trying to see who it could be spying on him. Finally his gaze stopped, resting on a small opening in the wall of shrubs and overgrown weeds on the outskirts of the forest. There he saw, what appeared to be two dark eyes watching him intently. His eyes widened as he suddenly realized what it was, a young woman as beautiful as the soft glow of the moon. He blinked, hoping it wasn't a mirage, and upon opening his eyes he realized that, sadly, it was. She was gone, like the breath of time. It was only his burning desire toying with his mind once again.
No it couldn't be…could he…see her? She blinked several times, only to find him looking right at her with his intense gaze. Good gods, he could see her!
"Leonardo! I'm here!"
The young girl bolted into a sitting position on her bed, breathing heavily. Beads of sweat rolled down her forehead and down her cheeks. No…NO! NO NO! It couldn't be, but…it was so real!
"TAKE ME BACK! I WANT TO GO BACK! LEONARDO!"
But it was no use; he was gone, gone like everything else in her life. It was only a dream. He was only a dream. And the sudden realization hit her like a ton of bricks. She sobbed quietly on her bed. Feeling lonelier than she had before falling asleep.
