After Iluvatar created the Valar and the Elfs, and when the Valar had been betrayed by Feanor, there was Melkor who is also called Morgoth. Melkor was a Valar who fell to darkness and is now being hunted for his crimes against the will of Iluvatar. But there is a story untold that when Melkor had created Utumno, his great fortress in Middle-Earth, he created the Balrogs. But the untold part was when Melkor had created a being who would command the Balrogs, long before Sauron. This being was called Dûnath. After the evil lord of the Balrogs was created Melkor sat upon his tower and panted.

For Dûnath was the most evil of his creations, born of darkness and left to only know it for eternity. The Darkling it was called for the creature had no organs and was only completed through petrified smoke and flame. Much like the Balrogs he was but more sadistic and cunning.

Now tales the part of the lost elves who would not journey over the Great River from Middle-Earth. They feared the Valar and most of all they feared Oromë. For he was the one who had lead the followers past the river and out of sight. Lies had clouded the minds of those elves. But when Melkor had asked that they join his army, they denied and fled before his wrath. Now, fuel by his anger, he created the Balrogs and Dûnath and sent them to dispose of the foul elves who did not follow their Valar. In the dark deeps of Middle-Earth, Dûnath and his underlings chased the elves far to the north in the frozen woods. They slaughtered them with their whips of flame, and Dûnath with his might staff of fire.

Then came Panawë who gathered the remnant elves and fought to free themselves from geonicide. For a whole year the elves were continuously slaughtered them when only their was Panawë and a little under a hundred elves left. Dûnath still plagued with the full power of his army. None of the elfs could slaughter the beast and in the end all began to dispair. When Dûnath finally came to the last hold of the remnant elves he came abroad with seven dark Balrogs. The Hold of the Remnants was nothing more than trees that have been felled by the tidings of the elves themselfs to hold back the enemies. Melkor, who saw the slaughter as a storm cloud above, grinned to himself in his dark pleasures. When the stronghold had fallen, Dûnath entered as if he were a ruler of the lands themselves. But nothing prepared him nor his Balrogs for what had happened next. As the slaughter continued, most of all the elves save for a few were killed until Oromë came unannounced. He killed the Balrogs but could not save the remaining elves. Panawë and the remaining few charged Dûnath and stabbed him with there long spears. The Darkling doubled over in pain, but before he died he burst into a magnificent flame that ingulfed Panawë and in the end destroyed the remaining elves. Oromë at last departed and spoke of nothing to his council of other Valars. Only Manwë, king of the Valars knew of the tale of the elves besides Oromë. THE END
