(A/N: This is set roughly around the time where Barty Crouch Sr. was at the height of his power grab. Albus & Minerva are working as Headmaster & Headmistress at Hogwarts.)

Quiet Moments

"How do I look?"

"Like you're fit for a Queen's banquet."

Professor McGonagall dusted off Albus' stylish new maroon dress robes (the ones she'd picked out for him, specifically for tonight; the ones with that classy gold trim that fitted the Headmaster so well), and turned her attention to his sloping top hat.

Dumbledore stood still, allowing his co-worker to fuss over him a bit. Over the years, he'd realised that she liked to do that, if only to calm her nerves.

McGonagall stood on her tiptoes to re-adjust the wizard hat, and took silent pleasure in Dumbledore's long beard tickling her chin.

"Are you quite finished?" Albus asked, blue eyes twinkling in amusement as Minerva straightened his robes for the tenth time this hour.

"There." Professor McGonagall stepped back to admire her work. Now he looked fit for an Emperor's banquet, she thought, allowing herself an approving smile.

Dumbledore glanced at his reflection in the full-length mirror by his bedside, before turning his gaze on Minerva.

"You've spent so much time fussing over me…what about you?"

"Oh Albus, I was ready 5 hours ago, when you were still wasting time with your confectionery collection!"

That twinkle was back again, as Dumbledore went back to surveying his appearance, "They'll come in handy some day."

Professor McGonagall let out a derisive snort, that broke her anxious facade, "Yes, It'll make the headlines of the Daily Prophet, it will… 'Dumbledore saves Wizarding World from obliteration by tempting You-Know-Who with a sherbet lemon'!"

"Well, you never know…"

McGonagall abruptly stopped pacing around Albus' chambers to shoot him a half-exasperated look. She was too nervous to give him her usual full concentration.

Albus smiled reassuringly and stepped away from the mirror to his co-worker's side.

He kissed her on the forehead and held her to him, feeling all her anxiety drain away as she relaxed in his arms.

"It'll be fine. It's just a dinner."

"A dinner with representatives from the Muggle world! We're their first impression of Wizard folk, Albus…we have a huge responsibility."

"And Barty wouldn't have handed this one to us, if he didn't think we were capable of making a good first impression."

Dumbledore straightened and gazed warmly at Minerva, "And I think you're going to make a fabulous impression."

Stepping to her side, he offered his arm and she looped hers through it, throwing him a brilliant smile as they moved to the chamber doors.

"Have you always been this good with flattery?"

"What flattery?"
