"…Why should the world be otherwise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us while,
We wear the mask"
------Paul Laurence Dunbar

Pale hands on my hips
Wanting to support and I let them
Eyes of azure sky blink widely
He didn't mean to…he didn't know.
Surprise, denial, flee away
I am in the dust of departure
With the smell of his aftershave
Lingering in my mind
Sure, he will resign, it was a dark night
I in stature and voice am quite alike
Another friend, another love of his
But he is unforgiving stone, upheaval inside.
Now he does pass me by day-a-day
Eyes scornful, dismayed at himself.
I try to remember the captured embrace
Of his innocent and pale hands.
Warm,
caring, and not mine.
I do not condone my tears.
