Another Rogue song-fic.
This one takes place right before she joined the X-Men. I don't recall the exact reason why she left the brotherhood, so I just made one up(blush!)..

Disclaimer: I don't own Rogue, Magneto, Mystique or anyone of the brotherhood.
Marvel does(growl).
And if you don't like Vaya con Dios, stay away from this story,
because the song 'Pack your memories' belongs to them and I like it.

Rating: G, nothing graphic

Reviews: Pleeease, I'm begging you, yes, yes, yes!

Gathering my heart

She ran all the way up to her room, not listening to him calling out.
Slamming the door shut, she fingered in her pockets for her key,
and managed to lock before her persuader arrived.
Merely seconds later a soft rapping came from the other side, but she did not bother answering.
Not after she had seen the man she loved, for what he truly was.

Pack your memories and leave,
Don't give it a second thought
All he's given you is grief
And pain
You can do without

Snippets of the past whirled through her mind, happy days, deadly missions,
how he had always looked out for her, his strength, the warmth in his eyes,
when he smiled at her, and the soft whisper of his voice,
that soothed her mental wounds.

And the same voice, that had sentenced one of his own followers to death today.
No pleas of her had convinced him otherwise, but rather he faced her,
and for a second there was a hatred in his eyes, that froze her soul
and shattered her heart.

Pack your memories and leave, girl
You know love
Is just a game of chance
There's always someone, can't you see
Leading someone
A pretty dance

He had realized, the moment she recoiled, and a glimpse of true sorrow passed over his face, but there was no way he could reverse his mistake.
The damage was done, and Rogue knew she had to get away from him,
before his hatred claimed her as well, and left her behind as hollow and
indifferent as some of his disciples.

You can moan about your worries
You can howl at your regrets
Drink them all away
Stay up till the morning
Get it going
But they will be there
By the break of day

The few belongings she called hers flew into a duffel bag, as tears stained her face.
He had played her a fool, and she had fallen for his words, because she had not been willing
to see the dark side of him.
It was probably the hardest lesson she had to learn in her lifetime, and it may have cost her faith in mankind and a part of her innocence.
Maybe, in time, she would learn to trust again, but for now,
she found it hard to do so.
And she still did not know, where to run.
She only knew, she had to leave.

Pack your memories and leave
Don't try to look behind
The things he made you believe
Oh girl,
You must have been blind
Pack your memories and leave
And run as far as you can
Let the song in the breeze
take you by the hand

Opening the window, Rogue glanced a last time into the quarters, she had called her home, then placed a foot on the window-sill and launched herself into the frosty night air.

All Mystique found of her the next morning, were a few tearstains on her daughter's pillow.
