Oh, and sadly, none of these people belong to me, only the plot bunnies.

*~*~*~*

Remus Lupin shifted restlessly, looking out the depleted window of the Shrieking Shack as the moon rose, it's white poison surging into the room.

Biting back a grunt of pain as his body convulsed, he was once again filled with the bitter taste of loneliness.

No one knew what he was, or where he went for a few days each month. No one save for a select few - Professor's Dumbledore and McGonagall, and Madame Pomfrey. The Headmaster, Gryffindor's house-leader and the school nurse had kept his secret, allowing him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In attending, Lupin had made the three best friends of his life; James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, and of course, Sirius Black. However, he had been unable to tell them his secret, his shame, for fear of rejection.

He brooded where he lay. Lying on the dirt floor of the Shack, looking out the window as the moon rose to it's peak. As his body convulsed and shuddered a final time, the pain flooding him, Lupin caught a brief sight of a set of grey eyes pressed to the window - canine, yet strangely human, eyes.

Straining to see more, Lupin blacked out as his body twisted into that of the werewolf.

*~*~*~*

Some time later, Lupin woke, staring into the darkness of the Shack. As his eyes adjusted, his canine nose told him that he wasn't alone. He stiffened as he made out the form of a huge, black dog.

With grey eyes.

Lupin knew that this.thing...wasn't what it appeared to be, there was an uncanny human feel to it - he recognised those eyes, though he could not place a name. He relaxed and lay down again, in the presence of the familiar being. Putting his head between his paws, Lupin stared at the black dog.

The dog, sensing the familiar presence, padded softly to the werewolf, feeling no fear or revulsion, only relief, knowing that Lupin could sense his feelings.

The dog, however, had no cause to feel fear or revulsion, as he knew who this was, what he was.

A friend, maybe something more.

The dog quietly curled himself around the slightly smaller form of the werewolf, laying his head over the other's neck.

Lupin couldn't help himself. The memories of all the lonely nights, the secrecy, caused him to meet the eyes of this enticing new companion. As brown eyes stared into grey, the world made sense again.

The name came to place, as Remus Lupin stared into the eyes of one Sirius Black.

Sirius looked hopefully into Remus' eyes, unsure of what he would see there.

Remus' only response, short of a whimper, was to shift closer into the warm embrace, the eyes telling more stories than words ever could.
