She had to find Spike. Buffy crept through the school
basement, watching and listening for any signs of danger.
Even Principal Wood might be a threat. She still hadn't
figured out why she'd found him with a shovel the other
day. His story hadn't made much sense either.

So Buffy was looking for Spike in the basement, figuring
he was connected to that place plus what else could she
do? She had to try and the basement had come to mind.
Who knew what he might have told the First Evil if it
hadn't destroyed him yet? True, Spike hadn't given
Glory any information that other time but then, he was a
different Spike then. She couldn't hold out much hope
that the insane, weird Spike had stayed quiet.

After about 20 minutes of searching Buffy was about to
give up when she heard a quiet scraping noise coming from
a nearby room. She tried the doorknob. It was locked so
she stood back and kicked it in, then rushed inside in attack
position

Seeing that she was alone except for one person, Buffy
relaxed her posture and darted across the room to him.
"Spike!" Buffy yelled. She grabbed him by the collar.
"What did you tell them?"

Spike groaned as his sore ribs were jarred. "Lay off, slayer!
That hurts!"

Buffy ignored him and shook him a little more as she repeated
in a loud voice, "I need to know what you told the First
Evil. I'm sure you blabbed plenty of our secrets and I have
to know which ones so I can fix things."

Spike pushed her hands away with what little strength he had
left. "Stop that. I'm half dead already. You yelling at me
won't make me answer any faster. I didn't tell them
anything."

"I don't believe you," Buffy insisted.

Spike rolled away and slowly stood. It hurt, a lot, but he
had to get away. "I don't care what you believe anymore. I
kept my sanity by thinking of you while they were working
me over and this is the reward I get? I must have been
hallucinating." He painfully limped out of the room and
toward the stairs.

"Where are you going?" Buffy trailed him, yelping in a
high pitched voice.

"I'm going to make a collect call to Los Angeles and see if
Angel'll pick me up," Spike decided on the spur of the
moment. "Nothing could be worse than staying here."

Leaving Buffy with her mouth hanging open, Spike crawled
away up the street. He was done with Sunnydale, once and
for all.
