Hey, this is just a poem set to The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore. I'm not so good at fluff, so tell me how I did. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Lily Evans or James Potter. I also don't own the poem that this was set to.
The Night before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas,
and all through the dorm
Not a student was stirring,
not quite the norm.
The commons were empty,
the students had gone home
In hopes of a winter holiday,
in a more temperate zone.
There were four students left,
half from second year
The two that were remaining,
knew the end of seventh year to be near.
With Lily in the girls dorm,
asleep in her bed
And James in the boys room,
thoughts flowing through his head.
He looked out the window,
and thought of the clatter
He'd caused that day at lunch,
he hadn't helped the matter.
He had wanted to ask,
the lady Lily on a date
And had instead,
caused snakes to dance across her plate.
There was no chance at all,
that she had found this worth a laugh
For she had yelled and screamed,
and let out a huge gasp.
And all the rest of the day,
she'd ignored the poor boy
And he knew right then,
that he'd caused her no joy.
James looked farther out his window,
and suddenly came up with a plan
He ran out of the common room,
a shovel in hand.
He worked and he worked,
until a quarter past one
Then he stepped back,
and realized his work to be done.
He crawled back up into his room,
remembering to leave Lily a note
He hoped she would realize,
that this wasn't a joke.
The next morning he awoke,
to a woman's loud scream
And a yell up to his room,
"James Potter, you're so mean!"
He ran down the stairs,
wearing only a robe
Wondering what he had done,
to turn Lily back to her angry mode.
Lily's face was twisted,
her eyes full of tears
Holding his note,
the words full of smears.
She began, her voice wrenching with sobs
"James, why do you do this?
You know you're causing harm.
You hate me, I get the jest."
James walked over to the redhead,
whose eyes looked so sad
And took her into his arms,
hoping she would stop being so mad.
"Lily, I've liked you for months now,
really, it's true.
Please believe me.
I'd never do anything to hurt you."
Lily looked at James,
and took a step back
She didn't believe him,
that was a fact.
James walked towards Lily,
while begging her not to flee,
"Lily, I like you, please
will you go on a date with me?"
Lily didn't quite believe this
but words flew from her mouth,
"This date better be good
or you'll wish you'd move south."
James let a true smile,
spread across his face
He took Lily by the hand,
and led her out of the commons place.
So, twas the day of Christmas,
and all through the halls
James Potter was shouting,
"Merry Christmas to all!"
