::He beat me. Sure, I'm still breathing. But he beat me. And Annabelle...::
Buffy sighed as she sat up in her room, listining to Giles preach to the others that Buffy was their only hope. He seemed differant now. More bossy, and more in control. More set on the whole "Up to Buffy" plan. England had changed him, each time that he came back, he was harder. Cold on the inside. Or maybe Buffy was the one freazing.
Spike had been gone for three days now. Three days of toture and all she could do is sit there. She winced as she shifted in her chair, the bruises rubbing against the wicker. Why? These feelings for Spike she was still having wouldn't go away, and Buffy would not leave him there. She herself didn't understand the reasoning behind that determination, but she was thankful her friends hadn't asked her about it too much. When you don't understand your actions, you sure as hell can't explain them to others.
It was the end, even Buffy knew it. And even the Slayer couldn't stop it. But with the other Slayer's in training on their way to Sunnydale, Buffy wasn't alone.
::It's still up to you, Summers.:: Buffy thought, and she could just feel a breakdown coming on. In the end, she was always the Slayer, the one and only one capeable to fight the threat. She had done it so many times, that Buffy was unsure of how to go about *not* being able to fight said threat. What happened when the Slayer couldn't take down the savage beast?
::The end of the world? Or does another step in, and finally, its not up to me?:: Buffy asked herself, and the thought rolled around in her head. It seemed unthinkable. She had always stood alone.
Buffy thought of what Willow had said earlier, about her needing help. More so about the never admitting it part. Did she have people to back her up in battle, was she too self absorbed to see it? She herself had told that stupid Holden she felt superior to the rest of her friends. Maybe they could help in the fights, and she had pushed them away.
::They have helped:: Buffy answered in her mind.
But not nearly as much. Even Spike hadn't been able to take on Glory, and look what happened with that. She died, and was ripped out from eternal peace. But she was more or less over that now.
::What happens if I can't take this thing on? What happens if I die? Willow's off her magicks, does that mean I would finally rest in peace? What would happen to everyone else? What am I going to do to stop this?::
The questions kept coming, and Buffy had no answears. These kind of questions ran through her head every appoclolypse, but this time she knew that she was over her head. She had been thrown through a wall, dammit!!
She couldn't take anymore of Giles' speach downstairs. Slowly, she started to stand up, sighing in pain when her cuts didn't aggree with her moves. As she decended down the stairs, only one thought plagued the Slayer's mind.
I am not alone.
