Disclaimer: I own nothing of Lord of the Rings, I can only write to ease my mind.
A/N: My first completed monologue. If I get a few good reviews I'll continue with more. This is very emotional but no slash implied. If you read and use your imagination, hopefully I can paint the picture I was envisioning. Thank you for reading!-Melanie

Contemplating Starlight:
The Scene: (Somewhere in the Dead Marshes. Gollum has gone off to scrounge for food, and Sam and Frodo are left alone to recover their strength. Frodo has fallen asleep, curled up a bit, his elven cloak loose around his shoulders. Sam is leaning against a bottlebrush, his cloak drawn about him shivering. Frodo begins to toss in his sleep. The Ring slips from under his tattered shirt....)
I don't know what you've done with him. But I beg of you give him back to me. I miss the smile that slowly faded within the darkened sky. His laugh, that brightened rainy days disappeared with soft breezes, warm air, and stars...beautiful stars. He used to sit under his windowsill and stare at them. I could see him while I cleaned up the lawn a bit, I loved to work late. We would sit and chat, have tea, laugh, all with the stars. I look at him now, so tired, so worn, and I know you did it. I've done nothing wrong, I couldn't have. He's all I've ever known to live for. He's my Mr. Frodo. But I can't bear to see him like this. He's always so tired, and when he does sleep, I doze to the sound of his simple breathing....Don't take him away from me.
If I ever see a star again, I'll show him, yes that's it, maybe the rays could make him smile again. Yes he'll smile, and then everything will be alright again. That'll be wonderful won't it Mr. Frodo?
(Sam looks upon the sleeping figure, a tear rolls down his cheek.)
Yes...everything will be fine. He'll come back to me. Won't you? (Sam tucks Frodo's cloak around his body and begins to stroke his forehead.) No more sweat, no more tears, they will flee your soft cheeks...sir. You'll be back to normal, grinnin' at me like you used to. I miss you, I miss you so much. (He lies back down beside him.)
(The thick cloud cover pulls away from the silver moon to reveal a single star.)
(Sam kisses Frodo's forehead and he stirs.)
"Look Mr. Frodo, a star. My, how it shines."
(Frodo smiles weakly.)
"It's beautiful...I love starlight."
