'You know, I never would have named you Diana.'
You might have found it odd to see the one cat turn to the other and utter these words. Black as ebony, and with a beautiful crescent on her forehead, you can see by the moon-scar that she is related to the striped kitten next to her.
Her words confuse you, both by their existence and their meaning. Why, and how, could a mere cat speak these things? and what do they mean?
But do not be discouraged. You will know soon enough.
'What, mother?' The smaller feline, with fur the color of gossamer, questions her. Her big blue eyes are troubled, almost, but one look outside at the rapidly consuming snows explains all.
'I would never have named you Diana, given the choice.' The black cat is calm, as her future is assured. She fears not the cold, and has been expecting it. She cuddles closer to her daughter, as if to use the heat of her own body to protect the girl.
'Really, mother?' The girl's eyes seem less cold now. You wonder, briefly, why they bother to engage in this seemingly mindless conversation, as the white gauze flies from the sky.
This is something more than just mindless.
'Yes, I... I don't believe I would have.' The older feline seems almost troubled now, but not by the frost.
'That seems so strange. Did another pick my name?'
'No... no, I don't believe so. It was Artemis and I, surely, but Diana is not the name I had envisioned for my child. Close, but still...' The mother fades off, and you can tell she is being taunted by a string of memory, lying just beyond her reach.
'What name *would* you have chosen?' The daughter seems pained again, and gives the snow a hateful glance.
'Dinah. Yes, I would have named you Dinah. Of course, when you were born, I couldn't have exactly changed it. Pluto would have had a fit.' A wistful smile from both at this: the senshi of time was well-known for her yelling bouts whenever anyone tried to mess with the past or the future. It seems silly to you, perhaps, that the composed Meiou Setsuna might throw a hissy-fit, but then you've never seen a green-haired, furious, magical woman wielding a large staff and going on about 'time continuum vortexes', have you?
'Dinah.' The child ponders this, then nods her furry head in approval. 'I like it, mother. Perhaps, after Serenity awakens us from this... well, perhaps we can change it.
Both are silent, as they ponder the nine-hundred years of imprisonment in ice they will soon face. As the snows steadily rise, another feline comes prowling into the room.
'Not long, darlings.' He eyes both with a loving eye. You can see the honest affection (affection? Not affection, but LOVE) he feels for this wife and daughter of his.
He settles to the child's side, and she raises her perfect crescented face to his and asks the ultimate question.
'Father, what would you have named me? Given the choice, I mean.'
The lily-white cat thinks for only a moment, then replies.
'Well, I've always liked Dinah. It's a beautiful name.'
The mother and daughter share a secret smile.
And, for a moment, you have the perfect picture. Mother Luna, Father Artemis, and child Diana (who, in 957 years, will change her name to Dinah in honor of her deceased parents) all sitting, warm in each other's presence.
But in an instant, your picture is ruined as pounds upon pounds of snow pour down on the snapshot. The creatures are buried by this Wiseman-sent flood of cold, secure in the knowledge that in perhaps 900 years they will be saved by their queen.
And they will be a family once more.
Luna, Artemis, and Dinah.

Nonsense, really. But you'll live.
