Chapter Two
"Who are you talking to?"
Sora jumped. Turning around, he saw Riku. His strong arms and cold stare made Sora feel like shivering. Instead, he said, "No one! Huh?"
He thought he saw Riku holding a paupu fruit in his hand. It couldn't be, why would Riku have a paupu? Sora blinked, and then realized it was a couple bananas.
"Don't act weird like that. Want to go a round? You could use some coaching. Yesterday you were out of touch."
Sora knew what Riku was trying to do. Make him look like a fool in front of Kairi, so she would like him better.
Everybody knew what had happened months before. Sora had saved everybody's butt, or, should I say, heart. Since then Kairi had acted more warmly toward him, and things with Riku had gotten worse.
Yet through it all, Sora (or Riku, for that matter) had not managed to share a paupu with Kairi. Of course, everybody knows the romantic powers of the paupu fruit. Share it with someone, and you become entwined in each other's lives for eternity.
Sora would have liked to share one with Kairi, yet so had Riku. That was one main cause for their rivalry.
Yet it's only friendly rivalry, right? Sora couldn't help but wonder.
"Riku, are we really pals? I mean, it's no secret we both want Kairi."
Riku neither moved nor blinked for several seconds. At last, he said, "Kairi told me you were out getting dinner. Have you finished?"
Red in the face, Sora left out into the ocean. What was he going to do when they set sail for real? This time, they actually would leave before the heartless came. But Riku, he was just so secretive lately, he wouldn't be much company on the raft.
"The raft," Sora thought. "I remember last time too clearly. I don't want to relive it."
"Not again."
"Not now."
