The stars shined like diamonds in the sapphire sky and the moon had the iridescence of a
great pearl. The crickets sang softly and the wind whispered sweetly. No one would have guessed
what was going on inside the mansion that night.
It all had finally gotten too bad for her to handle. Her powers had begun to turn on her
and eat away at her own life force. Charles arranged for her to be taken to Muir Island where she
would be cared for by his dear friend, Moira.
She didn't look like herself anymore. Her once glowing skin had grown pale and her
dimples had faded into hollow cheeks. Rogue stared into her eyes, which no longer resembled
sparkling emeralds, and began to cry.

What ravages of spirit
conjured this temptuous rage
created you a monster
broken by the rules of love
and fate has lead you through it
you do what you have to do
and fate has led you through it
you do what you have to do
and I have the sense to recognize that
I don't know how to let you go

He was so cruel when they last spoke. Of course she loved him. She always had. She
always would. It wasn't as if she had chosen to become ill. Why couldn't he simply understand
her? Why couldn't he comprehend that she loved him?
But then again he had lost everyone he had ever come to care for. He could never seem to
hold onto those he needed most. But he had survived. He had pulled through every darkness. And
she would return. She had to. She couldn't die. Not without him. Not without saying goodbye.
She threw herself onto the bed and as the tears poured onto her pillow she heard the door
creak open.
"Chere?"
"Ya not s'posed ta be here."
He crossed the room and climbed onto the bed next to her.
"When do Ah evah do what Ah'm s'posed ta?"
Sliding behind her curled up body he wrapped his arms around her and held her close,
connecting every inch of her to him and softly breathing in her sweet smell. His burning eyes
flared and he shut them tightly.

Every moment marked
with apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
trying to escape this desire
the yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
the yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
but I have the sense to recognize
that I don't know how
to let you go
I don't know how
to let you go

The next morning they came for her. They cloaked her in a dark black cape and hid her
face with a hood. They were determined to hide her new appearance from prying eyes.
Remy watched as they left. His eyes glowed a deep red, a red they had never been before.
They were the color of freshly drawn blood.
As she approached the door, she turned her head and their eyes locked one last time. No
words were exchanged. Yet each knew what the other longed to say.
"Are you ready to leave, Rogue?" Moira's bright smile flashed at the young girl.
Rogue simply nodded.

a glowing ember
burning hot
burning slow
deep within I'm shaken by the violence
of existing for only you
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
and I have sense to recognize but
I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go

He watched at the window as they put her in their big black car and drove away. He knew
he would never see her again. He knew she would die on Muir Island. But still....

I don't know how to let you go
