Skin should be traveled.

Like endless ribbons of flesh-colored highway,

With fingers

With lips

With tongues

As automobiles.

From inlets in-between the toes to interstate upon the legs,

From curvy mountain roads on the hip and thigh.

The horizon rises on the bridge of the nose

And the headlights come on in the dense forest lane…….

How well can you know these places?

Like you know your own planes and valleys, like you know where your hands go at night, like you know your own textured journeys?

And her map is such a soft touch, so smooth and so clean.

Some of it looks familiar, some of it scares you away…..

Careful of the cuts and bruises, painful roadblocks.

Careful of the earthquakes shaking underneath the ground of her body.

Careful of the shift of plates, shift of her chest as it breathes.

Be careful…these are not your roads anymore…..

You only know blacktop, icy with that storm that never ends.

Slick and glassy, letting trembling fingertips slip.

You only know you.

You only know the past and the memories and the anger and the bitterness and the hate….the hate…the hate…..

The wind whips through your hair, top down.

And it lingers by your earlobes.

'Low shoulder' it whispers as

You skim past a curve.

Her curves.

Your curves.

No yield, no stop, no caution.

Rushing to the dead end, where she laughs and where she leaves.

And you would cry, but you can't find the keys to your damned heart anymore.
