Author Note: Yes, I've read the books. I know Haldir's not supposed to die at Helm's Deep, because he's not even supposed to be there. But the look in his face in the movie inspired this.so I had to write it.

My apologies if I got anything wrong about the way he died in the movie, it's not very clear exactly what happened, so I tried my best to fill in the little details.

And isn't it amazing? I actually wrote a serious story!!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything. The stupid idea to kill Haldir was Peter Jackson's and this idea came from Craig Parker's acting of that idea.

For the first time in my long life, I knew what it was like to be mortal. I now understood what it was like to have a limited amount of time left to live. And it was a horrible feeling.

****

The battle of Helm's Deep had been raging for countless hours. Bodies were falling lifelessly to the ground all around me; some of my foes, some of my allies, some of my kin.

Normally, battle does not tire me, but the awful stench of death was surrounding, overpowering and it was wearing me out.

"TO THE KEEP!!" I heard the Aragorn's shout from among the battle cries and screams of anguish. I nodded at him quickly before turning to kill the Uruk- Hai standing in front of me.

A second before he died, one of the Uruk-Hai managed to stab his blade in a gap in my armor near the shoulder. The wound caused such pain that every thought in my head became foggy and my vision became clouded. Beads of sweat grew on my forehead as I fought to ignore the pain.

That was when I felt the sharp edge of a blade for the second time, only this time it was in my back. The pain was overwhelming now, but somehow it wasn't what my mind kept thinking about. Only one thought kept echoing in my mind. I was going to die.

Up until this moment, I had never worried about dying. I never truly believed it would happen. Death had been some distant force I thought would never touch me. But it was here for me now. . .

'Was this what it was like to be mortal?' I thought, 'Knowing you only have a limited amount of time to live? That must an unbelievable burden for mortal creatures, always knowing that their end is not far away.'

"Haldir." I heard Aragorn's voice close to my ear as he caught my body, which was slowly falling to the ground.

'Aragorn,' I thought, 'I pity you. You have to live with this feeling every day. You have to wake up every morning knowing that this might be the last sunrise you see, this might be the last breath you breathe. . ."

And with that, Haldir collapsed lifelessly into the mortal king's arms.
