and it's short...

So he left. His short explanation still rang in her ears, barely
adequate. He'd left her. In the middle of the desert, all alone,
with only her thoughts to entertain her. Thoughts which were
currently caught in a maelstrom of emotions and irrational
thoughts.

Her mind dragged her back to earlier that day, what he'd said.
Living hell. She'd brushed it off, laughed at it, *ignored* it
before. For the moment. It was eating away at her, demanding her
attention, and casting her into a storm of self doubt. Did he
really mean it? Of course he didn't.... But then, here she was,
abandoned, all alone in the dark with her wonderful red Cadillac
of Cadillacs. She thought he'd have been back by now. But he was
nowhere to be seen. She began to worry, just a little. But Woody
could take care of himself, couldn't he?

But what about her? Had he gotten back to civilization and found
some lead to pursue as she shivered alone in the cold? She
dismissed it out of hand. He wouldn't.... She waited, still
dwelling on it. Was he coming back for her?

The fire died and she could barely see as she made her way back to
the car. She wished now that she had blankets, or...a roof would
be nice...something to keep her warm.

Her thoughts drifted back to Woody. How long had it been?
Several hours. Sleep tugged at her tired eyes. Only half lucid
and irrational, she arrived at the conclusion that she'd been
left.

He really had left her. She'd scared him off, made him run.
Panic sprung up in her. She had to do something. She had to fix
it. But there was nothing she could do. She'd made her mistake—
he'd really hate her now.

He'd left her. Her thoughts continued in a circle, always
bringing her back to that one sad realization. Despair welled in
her heart, tears in her eyes.

Her fault. He'd left her...

Sleep claimed her, as her tears fell.
