"There's no chemistry," Ethan told her after she asked me to the Sadie Hawkens dance and
explained how they were just friends. Since then they've been good friends, but she's been
more and more distant, as if he said something wrong...

"Hey Lizzie," Gordo said in between bites when she slipped into the seat next to him.

"Hey! What's up?" she said, not expecting an answer. Seconds later Miranda sat across from them
and immediately launched into her less than appetizing cafeteria food. Nobody talked for a
few minutes, they were too busy eating.

"You know," Gordo said, finally breaking the friendly silence, "I should do a documentary about
how come cafeteria food is so awful. Yes, I can see it now." He held up his hands and made a
picture frame, rotating it back and forth as if seeing something. For the rest of lunch he was
off in his world of videocameras and possible Golden Globe Awards.

"Bye guys," Lizzie said and got up from the table to throw away her lunchtray.

"Hey! Lizzie!" Ethan said from across the cafeteria and walked over to her. "Hows all going?"
He held up a fist as if to do the 'guy handshake thing' but put it down awkwardly when he
remembered that he was talking to a girl.

"Hey, Ethan," Lizzie said, not so excited as he was to see the other. "How's all going?"

"Great! I'm thinking about asking Kate to the Winter Ball. Do you think she'll say yes?"

"Yes," Lizzie said. Inwardly she was thinking about HOW much Kate was going to hold it over her
head. One more thing that she's got that I don't, Ethan.

"Who are you going with?" Ethan asked. They were walking down the hall to Lizzie's locker. She
stopped outside it and turned to him.

"No one," she replied and turned to the locker and quickly rotated the lock. I would go with you
Ethan, she wanted to call back at his retreating figure going to his next class. But I know
how we have 'no chemistry'. "You're dumb anyways," she said silently.

"Excuse me?" an accent asked from the next locker over. She couldn't see who it was because the
the locker was blocking it. Lizzie quickly shut it and immediately saw a boy whom she had never
seen before and hoped to see more and more of.

"H-h-hello," she stammered awkwardly.

"I'm Romiro, and you are?" he asked, the words rolling off his tongue and a cute Spanish accent.

"Lizzie," she said, smiling. "What's your next class?"

"English, how funny. I am barely good at the language!" He smiled a contagious smile and Lizzie
quickly broke out in one too.

Lizzie giggled and said, "That's my class too!" They walked together and she turned around to
see Miranda jealously gazing at Ramiro. Lizzie smiled happily and Miranda mock-glared.
