Summary: Luke finds the courage to do something he should have done long ago.
She looked at him. Tears threatened to fall from her eyes. She wondered why he would do this to her, on top of everything that was going on right now. She didn't want to face this. Not now, not ever. She wanted to run and hide. But she couldn't. Not from him. Everything she'd tried to deny was in the open now. But she couldn't run. It was her turn to be an adult. She looked down and up at him again. She repeated the action, nodding. Yes.
He stared up at her. He had finally got the nerve to ask her. Here he was on one knee, basically pledging his life to her. If she would accept. He had no idea what came over him. All he knew was he had to go to Hartford to pick up a part for his truck. He was walking down the street, and happened to glance into the jeweler's window. Next thing he knew, he was spending five grand on a ring for a women he wasn't even dating. Now he was nervously waiting for her reply. He was filled with joy and relief, when he saw her nod.
She was now crying. She was happy though. She truly was. He had everything she needed coffee, friendship, love, and support. Not to mention he loved her daughter as though she was his own. And her daughter loved him as though he were her father. So she said yes, or nodded rather because she was at a loss for words. She watched him intently as he slipped the gorgeous ring on her finger.
He did it. They were now engaged. He stood up and took her in his arms. He pulled back so he could kiss her. As his lips met her, a calm, safe and exciting feeling rushed through his body. He was sure she felt it too. After a minute or two he pulled back. And for the second time that day he told her he loved her. This time she said it back.
