This is the Repin Raikov Spoiler: Questions answered, the plot explained
and some other cool stuff too. Bear in mind that I own nothing, not the
books, rights to the author's names or the X-characters. I'm just some guy,
ya know?
Hey there,
I'm hope you liked my story. I know it's a little confusing, but it was one of my favorite stories to write, so I'd love to explain it.
The first thing I should explain is that the book/books I talk about in the story are real. That's why I gave the author and titles so completely in the story, so that others could look them up.
There really was a master hypnotist named Raikov who hypnotized art students to make them believe that they were a famous Russian artist named Repin. And under hypnosis they did produce artworks they were incapable of in a normal waking state. More than that, they did retain this ability after ten sessions as Repin.
So that's where I got the name The Repin Raikov Project.
I've always heard that good science fiction becomes good science fact. So I try to reverse engineer my stories from fringe science that may become mainstream as it's explored. I also happen to think that Fanfic is a little more interesting if you can remove the border between our world and theirs. So most of my stories have that kind of theme.
As for the end of the story, be careful to look for the quotes around Madeline Pryor's (Evil Jean Grey clone from the 70's) dialog. They're easy to miss in my opinion.
The end all idea was that an experiment with 'Artificial Reincarnation" went wrong when Madeline, pretending to be Jean as she did in the old comics, discovered that she was a fictional character being woken up in the real world. She then hijacked both her host body and the experiment by telepathic means.
All the instincts to leave and flee that our two main characters have are residual suggestions left by Madeline.
The reason they both came back is that the 'Storm" and the "Wolverine" personalities that were put in the bodies fell in love with each other. Presumably this passes, like the abilities, on to the host bodies (which Storm and Wolvie call 'the children') although the host's have no idea they even know each other.
So all's well in the universe, unless you're 'Scott'. Because Madeline continued the experiment by having children after their powers had manifested in an effort to create naturally born people with abilities. In short, Mutants, in our world.
Pretty creepy, hunh?
Peace by Design,
