Sam had drawn around her hand on her yellow notepad. She'd just laid her hand in the middle of the sheet of paper, taken a black pen and started to slowly trace around the outline, her tongue between her teeth and a look of intense concentration on her face.

It wasn't unusual for her to occupy her time during these weekly mini-lectures given by the scientists of the SGC. After all, she knew what most of them were talking about. Jack, even though he was part-retired, and had been for nearly six months, still had to attend their 'updates'. The current topic was volcanic eruptions on PQ2 something, something, something. Like the volcanic geology of PQ2 whatever would ever come up in diplomatic conversation with Thor..

Usually, however, Sam did something constructive. He'd seen her make notes for mission report, solve complicated - really complicated - Math problems and compile enormous 'To Do' lists for both home and work. To Do: Wash socks, sew button on dress uniform, check on plans for X303 Mark II, buy new pair of boots, fix naquadah reactor, find favorite lipstick, buy groceries.

Very rarely did she doodle.

As Jack watched, she added more detail to the drawing of her hand. Nails - longer than hers were, actually. Picking up her red pen from the table, she began to carefully shade in the nails of her hand, simulating nail polish. She even drew in small, half-moons on the nails to simulate reflection from the lights.

Then she picked up her black pen again, drew in the wrinkles of her knuckles, the little freckle on her left thumb and the scar that dashed from her middle finger knuckle to the base of her little finger - yet another lab accident.

After she'd finished that to her specifications, she picked up a gray pen from his own pile of writing equipment and carefully drew a ring on her third finger. A plain silver band, he guessed, judging from the specifics of her color coordination. Sam didn't wear jewelry on base, for obvious reasons, so her pale hands were currently bare. The ring was being drawn from her imagination.

She paused over the band for a moment, then seemed to decide something - just before the band she began to drawn another ring, this time thinner and adorned with three stones. She shaded the bigger stone with the blue pen but left the other two stones bare. Huh. Jack guessed that one was a sapphire while the other two were supposed to be diamonds.

Nice, as rings went.

She picked up the black pen again and added a bit of shading to the diagram, touched up the outline to the wedding band...

Oh.

Wait.

Oh right.

Sam was doing something else now, writing in bold, clear black letters under the drawing:

BIG ENOUGH HINT FOR YOU?

Jack cleared his throat and quickly returned his attention to the scientist, a slight smile on his face, the only indication of the huge-ass grin that was threatening.
