Disclaimer: This story is a songfic. I am NOT the creative genius Christopher Pike, who brought to life the beautiful
character of Alisa Perne. I am simply a fan of his work.
The song also is not mine. It belongs to the gifted group, Massive Attack. It's called "Dissolved Girl."
---------------------------
Shame, such a shame / I think I kind of lost myself again / Day, yesterday / Really should be leaving but I stay...
Alisa Perne stared at the edge of the calm sea. A full moon glittered high up in the atmosphere, moonbeams bouncing off
the glass-like surface of the ocean. A gentle roaring of the waves was the only thing that could be heard. The water was
cold as Alisa stepped into it slowly, but the cold didn't bother her. Nothing could bother a five thousand year old vampire
who'd had many lifetimes of ups and downs.
Nothing perhaps, with the exception of her endless, lonely life.
Say, say my name / I need a little love to ease the pain / I need a little love to ease the pain / It's easy to remember when it came...
Alisa, born with the name Sita long before the Egyptians built the pyramids, had had only one true love. Rama. He had been her husband more than
five millenniums before, and she had never loved another as greatly as she had loved him. Sita felt something on her cheek then as she thought of
her beloved, and raised a hand to it, only to discover wetness and realized that she was crying. When she lifted her finger, she noticed that unlike
most of the tears that she had shed throughout the years, this one was clear, and not made of blood.
Cause it feels like I've been / I've been here before / You are not my savior / But I still don't go...
She stepped further into the cold sea, until the crystal clear water touched her abdomen. Sita thought of all her lovers, all of her lives. She
thought of the differnt roles that she had played throughout all of history. And she thought of everyone she had lost through the seemingly endless
centuries.
Feels like something / That I've done before / I could fake it / But I want more...
Did she want more?
Did she long to live longer and continue to be amazed by all the modern inventions, and wonderful discoveries that mortals continued to make and find?
It wasn't the first time she had had these thoughts. It wasn't even the first one hundredth time she had asked herself these same questions. But it was
the first time that she had discovered she wasn't sure anymore. In fact, there wasn't much that she was sure of anymore, except for one thing.
She missed Rama. She missed the love and passion that she had shared with him.
Fade, made to fade / Passion's overrated anyway / Say, say my name / I need a little love to ease the pain / I need a little love to ease the pain / It's
easy to remember when it came...
The tears rolled freely now. The clear ones. No longer were they the sad, bloody tears that she had seldom shed. She raised her hands above her head as if
asking the gods permission. She wanted Rama. She wanted her old life. She wanted for her endless, lonely existence to finally come to an end. She leaned
back and let herself fall into the water. The icy water enveloped her entire body as she floated in the sea.
She closed her eyes, seeing immediately, the face of her beloved, and prayed to be reunited with him.
I need a little love to ease the pain / I need a little love to ease the pain / It's easy to remember when it came...
She floated for hours, dreaming of her Rama. And when she finally sank into the water's depths, there was a soft smile upon her face.
And so she was set free.
Free of her torturous history.
