What Happened To Ray
AN: Canon divergence of what happened in the film to Ray Arnold
Characters: Ray Arnold; mentions of Ellie Sattler, John Hammond, Dennis Nedry, and others; possibly introducing an OC but the story is Ray-centric
Disclaimer: Aside from any OC's I do not own any of the characters, they belong to Michael Crichton and the creators of the films.
It had stopped storming enough for Ray to head over to the maintenance shed. Which he wouldn't HAVE TO DO IF SOME ASSHOLE NAMED DENNIS NEDRY HADN'T DISAPPEARED and blocked anyone from accessing his computer. The guy probably got eaten by an escaped raptor. Woulda served him right if he did, that Nedry was a good-for-nothing and did the bare minimum because he wanted Hammond's money. "Focus Raymond. You gotta get the power back or a T-rex or some other dino will get to you and make you into a nice meal," he reprimanded himself. "Hold onto your butts," he warns, as he's about to flip the breakers. Suddenly, he notices it's a little too quiet. His whole body stiffens and his ears prick up, trying to detect something other than the far-off thudding of some giant dinos and the lowing of the brachiosauri.
THERE. THAT SOUND. Talons going crunch.
Fuck.
ROARRRRRRRR
He could practically feel the force of that roar from the Velociraptor. And shit he was stuck over at the breaker box. "Fuckfuckfuck," he muttered. 'There's no way I'm getting out of this in one piece, let alone alive, is there?' Suddenly, he felt the hot breath of the raptor across his head. He jumped and let out a scream he was sure they would've heard in the visitors center. THE CREATURE WAS BEHIND HIM. Screw it, the thing was a monster. He tried to run, but his headset wires caught on the gate wires and it was yanked around his arm. He could feel its breath stronger on his right arm. Suddenly there was a sharp pain in his shoulder and something warm spurted all over him. He yelped in pain and jumped away, the caught headset falling away.
"THE FUCKING VELOCIRAPTOR BIT OFF MY ARM!"
No time to dwell on that. Ray turned and fled from the maintenance shed in what he hoped was the direction of the dock, while trying his hardest to stem the flow of blood that was gushing from his right shoulder. His arm will just have to stay there and he'll have to get a prosthetic. No chance in hell that he's going back to retrieve it, especially if he may not make it off the island. As he was running, he started slipping and slowing down. His head was spinning - he'd lost too much blood.

The last thing Ray heard before everything went black was the faint voice of Ellie Sattler, calling his name. What seemed moments later, he opened his eyes and was immediately blinded by searing brightness. It was the next day, the storm had passed and the sun was high and hot. Brutally hot. He wasn't even wet anymore, unless you included the blood that was still tacky all over his shirt. With that amount he was surprised he hadn't become some dinosaur's dinner.
He staggered to his feet, and felt a trickle of blood still coming from his shoulder. Tearing off his left sleeve, he tied it as a tourniquet to stem the flow as much as possible until he got medical help. He pushed himself to walk, dizzy from lack of food, water, heat, and blood loss. Ray didn't even know if he'd make it off the island. When he came across the fork leading to the dock, he perked up a bit. There was one of the manual Jeeps! It was banged up from Nedry's endeavors and was in the middle of the Dilophosaurus nest they'd made after escape, but it would do. There was no Dilophosaurus in there, so he shoved Nedry out with a half-assed apology he didn't mean, and drove to the helipad and dock. With luck, either the boat or helicopter would be there.
There was a boat. He suspected it was Nedry's. The captain started shouting at him when he tried to board, saying things in Spanish. The only thing he understood was Dennis Nedry. Ray guessed the man was trying to shoo him off because he wasn't the contact, but he told the guy Dennis was dead and showed his chewed off arm. That got him ushered onto the boat fast and they took off from the island.
