Falling in Love in La Push
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, setting, these belong to Stephenie Meyer. I am merely writing about the characters, their dialogues, the setting, and making a new plot. So in this fan fic it is loosely based on New Moon. At about the part where Edward leaves Bella in the forest. There are some New Moon scenes in here that I didn't quote exactly but you will recognize them. I didn't include Bella actually cliff diving either, it just never quite fit. Also, another important key to this fic, is that there is no such thing as imprinting. So there is no Emily (or Leah) in the picture. Without further ado, here is the story. Hope you will review!
I was driving to the reservation with Jake. All of the sudden, I looked out the window.I saw a group of dairk-haired , muscular, shirt-less guys jumping from a high cliff into turbulent waves below.
" Did he just jump?!" I asked, panicking.
Jake looked at me for a second, touching my shoulder briefly. " Bella, don't worry. It's recreational cliff diving. Total rush, but scary."
Jake and I stayed a little at the edge of the road.
" Is that Sam? I asked astonished.
An image vividly took over my mind. A feeling of breath being taken from me, a keen pain all over.
Then suddenly, strong arms scooping me, a shirtless dark-haired man.
Definitely not Edward. As much as I wished.
Jacob?
Instantly, I felt safer and warmer.
It was Sam.
Sam saved me.
Suddenly, I was back in the present.
"Yup that's Sam," Jacob said giving me an odd look.
I looked away, self-conscious.
" Well, Bells, we might as well continue to my place." He smiled, and I felt myself getting lighter. The sadness disappearing just for now, but it made me feel a sorta a revival, a sort of hope.
We went to Jake's place to fix the motorcycles.
Later that night, I was back at home. I dread being alone. With Charlie being asleep, and the television off, it was really quiet, even quieter than usual.
I had seen Edward. I knew it was a hallucination. Why had he left me? He said he didn't love me. Like, you can't just turn that off.
Thinking about Edward this way wasn't typical of me. But something didn't seem right about this situation.
With that final thought, I feel asleep.
I dreamt I was on the cliff. The wind howling, my hair billowing around my face. The sun was setting, bright reds, oranges, blue, and purple. The water crashing, navy blue, and lapping at the rocks below.
" What do you want, Bella?" A voice asked me.
I looked around, trying to see who spoke. No one was around.
" You may be lost now, but you will make the best choice for you. Don't lose faith."
Suddenly, the wind enveloped me and I was transported.
Confused, I looked around me. Weird! I was in Biology class at the high school! To make matters even more strange, I was the only person there. I looked at the chair beside me.
No Edward. It was like, I felt connected, but I couldn't see him now.
Not only was Edward not there, but none of my classmates or the teacher were present.
I woke up.
I could still hear echoes of that male voice.
"Lost…your choice…faith."
Jacob and I aren't talking. I know something is going on. Especially, after the movie with Mike.
After that, I didn't hear a word. Billy said he had mono.
My mission today was to talk face to face with him. To get it out of him, what is really going on with him.
I stopped at that same spot as before. Looking at that high cliff.
Seeing it kinda gave me a sense of awe and majesty.
Suddenly, I had a feeling I was not alone.
I looked beside me and I started.
It was Sam!
" Can I help you?" Sam said seriously, looking at me with piercing eyes.
" Oh…um, Sorry. This is just a beautiful view."
" Why are you here?" He asked me.
" Honestly, I came to see Jake."
"Jake Black, huh?"
"Yes." I couldn't help being a bit short with him. It is not as though he owns the entire reservation. "We're friends."
Hearing this, Sam leaned his shirtless body on my truck and then said, " What about me?" I did save your life in the woods, a couple months ago."
He looked at me intensely.
Then added, " No thank you for my noble deed."
" Thank you," my voice came out different, softer.
"You're welcome." The slightest trace of a smile on this face.
I smiled a little bit too, then looked down at him, down at the ground.
"Jake…well…he's a good kid. But, things at home, well, they are difficult."
As he said that, I could sense that there was a lot of information that was being said different. Edited. A lot.
He looked down, just like I had.
I knew not to ask anymore about Jake. It just seemed to upset Sam.
We sat by the truck, for a few minutes. Just enjoying the weather and the view.
"Well!" I blurted, nervously. I forgot I had to do something at home!"
"Okay." Sam shifted , turning to face me. " I will let Jake know you came."
Again with the editing, Sam. I thought. I got the message. Sam would most certainly NOT tell Jake that I had come. AND he noticed that I didn't want to go further to see Jake.
Talk about a poker face. And yet, I could feel that at times I could see through it.
For some reason, Sam Uley is taking extreme interest in my business. And I don't know what to do about it.
The next day, I felt like a criminal. Making my way from Forks, to the Quiletes reservation AGAIN. Hoping not to see Sam. And as paranoid as I was, the coast was clear. If it wasn't happening to me at this moment, I feel as though I might somehow find it funny. Weird.
Then, I saw him. Jake. His hair was short, with a tattoo and no shirt. Just wearing jean shorts.
Funny thing that came to my mind is, 'you look like Sam."
I asked Jake what was going on. He seemed upset.
"Is this about Sam?" I asked.
"It is not Sam's fault. He is trying to help me. You better stay away." Jacob said.
In that moment, I looked across the field and saw Sam standing with several other guys that looked like him.
Sam looked at me, then at Jake, then looked only at me. He looked angry.
" Fine! You don't want me to be here, then I will leave!" I yelled at Jake.
The drive home was rainy. The windshield wipers frantically working to keep up with the downpour.
I had to hold in my tears until I was safe in the truck. Jake doesn't like me anymore. I was happiest when I was with him. He made me laugh. I always liked looking into his deep brown eyes. My rock. My heart was fuller when I was with him.
I got home, crying even harder. Luckily, Charlie wasn't home. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I laid in bed. Soon I fell asleep.
I woke to the sound of peebles pelting my window. I looked out there and there was Jake!
" What are you doing here? " I asked, surprised.
" Back up, I am coming up!" Jake said.
He did a fancy manuever using the side of the tree and the side of the house to get through my window.
" Wow, Jake, how did you learn to do that?"
"Nevermind. We need to talk."
Bella, I don't want to hurt you."
I felt myself gravitate towards him. I held him, his skin hot. Resting my head on his chest.
" I love you, Jake." I cry a little more. Then I say, " I just need a little time."
I step back to look into his eyes. " Don't give up on me."
" Do you remember we were at La Push beach? " Jake asked.
" Yes, you talked about the Cold Ones." I replied.
" Of course you would only remember that part.
" There is another part. And if you could figure it out it would be so much easier since I am forbidden to tell.
Try to remember. Good night, Bella. "
With that he was gone, an almost stealthy exit.
That night I had a dream that answered the question of what happened to Jake.
Werewolf.
Hurriedly, I got ready. And started to drive to the reservation. No rain today, but a very heavy canopy of dark clouds.
I sped by the cliff. But that didn't stop me from seeing Sam's face.
I tried to shake it away.
I have to talk to Jake. Let him know I know.
Yet at the same time I could feel Sam near.
I had never felt this confused.
I was just about to knock on Jacob's door when I felt a hot hand on my arm.
" Bella," Sam said angry. He pulled me away from the house, in the middle of a field.
I could feel the words slipping out of my mouth, " It is your fault, isn't it? Jacob changed. You-you-you made him into a werewolf!"
" How? What? Did he tell you?" "
"No." I trailed off for a second, " I found out myself".
"You can't tell anyone! " He said with intensity, but less anger.
" Bella, I wish I were normal." He touched my arm again. " You have it so easy. People like me and Jake we have no choice, but you do.
" You almost died when that filthy Cullen left you."
" The way I see it, there are times when you take risks instead of always wishing to have known what could have happened."
I take a moment to look into his face, to gauge his response to what I said.
He seemed to be thinking. There was worry on his face. Doubt.
Such a difference from his usual serious/ intense stance.
Suddenly, I became aware that the two of us were really close.
He reached out and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear.
Our lips were just about to touch. When—
" What the hell? Bella? Sam?" Jacob looked outraged.
I tried to move away from Sam, but he clung to my arm.
"Jake, I am so sorry. My heart has gone through so much! First, Edward. Then you. And Sam. All this time, it has been overwhelming. To top it all off, I find you are both werewolves! As if there isn't enough going on in my mind!"
" I knew you would find out." Jake said. " But wait a minute, you and Sam? He could never love you like I do! Bella, you and I are perfect for each other!"
"You? With Bella?" He laughed, his deep brown eyes passionate, back to that intensity. " You are just a boy, Bella needs a man!"
Uh-oh. This is not good! At would I could only say was the exact moment they both were losing their temper.
In an instant, they morphed into the most enormous wolves. Little shredded remains of their clothes falling around them.
Jacob was the smaller wolf, light brown. Sam was black, and his size bigger.
They started fighting. Clawing and biting. And rolling around the ground.
"Please!" I implored. "Don't fight! Don"t hurt each other because I love you both! Stop!"
I started crying. And then in the next moment, I noticed that the other werewolves had arrived at just the perfect moment. They were able to stop and pull Sam and Jacob from each other.
"Thank you," I said to them. On my knees, feeling my breathing was getting more shallow, I was getting dizzy. I saw images moving swiftly through my mind. Jacob and I laughing as we fixed the bikes. A view from a cliff, a colorful sunset, the small smile on Sam's face. And then…all I saw was black.
I woke up snug in bed. In my own room. Feeling really confused because I couldn't remember the events that happened before this moment.
Then came a knocking on the door, "Bella? Can I come in?" It was Charlie.
"Yes you may."
Charlie opened the door slightly. He peeked his face in and made eye contact with me, he sat on the bed. Looking uncomfortable being in my room.
"Dad? What happened?"
"Well, Bells," He sighed, looking down. "I know you have been through a lot."
He stops. Scratches his head. "You were down at the reservation. Jacob and Sam were fighting about you."
" What?" My voice came out somewhat like a squeak. " They…um…what sort of clothes were they wearing?" I asked, feeling stupid. I want to make sure that he didn't know their secrets.
"Bella? Uh? What does that matter? " He pauses for a second." They were both wearing jean shorts, and no shirts."
"Oh got it." I said, trying to make it seem that the question stemmed from confusion.
"Though that Sam Uley…well, he hasn't been the same, since that night he found you."
"Really, dad?"
"Jacob, on the other hand, went on a trip to Canada. Haven't heard much from him. He doesn't want to talk with any of his friends or family. "
He must be so angry with me. Something in me said maybe he just needs space. But it did make me sad. How was I supposed to talk to him?
"Bells?" Dad asked. "You there?" He touched my shoulder, then said. " I think you need to decide who you love more."
"Oh," I said surprised. Knowing that what he was right.
A week passed. I spent it either alone or with Charlie. Thinking about everything that happened, about my feelings, and my thoughts.
On Friday, I had a surprise visit. From whom? Is the question.
Jacob.
He told me he needed to be alone. So he decided to spend some time in Canada. But he couldn't stop thinking of me. That him and Sam hadn't been taking at all.
And looking at him. HIs face and smile. The laughs and times we have shared. It was familiar and comforting.
I turned him down. But I said we could always be friends. And he said he wanted to be close no matter what.
The next day, another visitor.
Sam.
We sat out in the front. And talked.
He looked at the woods, then turned to me. "I still remember rescuing you from the woods.I haven't been able to stop thinking about it, actually. I have never seen someone so beautiful. Then I felt drawn to you. I found you at my favorite spot. I have never felt so fascinated and interested in someone until I met you. Like you said, some risks are worth taking."
" Well, don't you learn fast." I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder. "Thank you for healing my broken heart."
He grabbed my chin gently, and kissed me on the lips.
"I love you."
" I love you, too."
"I'm so lucky."
" No, I am even more lucky," Sam said with a deep chuckle.
THE END
