Seventeen-year-old Jonny Quest was traveling in a van with his Father Doctor Benton Quest and their traveling companions Hadji who is the same age as Jonny. Race Bannon who is the bodyguard for the esteemed Doctor and his teenage daughter Jessie who is also the same age as both Jonny and Hadji. They were on their way to see Professor Ogilvy at the observatory located in a small town in Vermont.
"How long until we get there Dad?" Jonny asked
"Not long Jonny, we're only a mile away." Benton responded
"You know Doctor Quest; I was reading about Professor Ogilvy. He is one of the top astronomers in the world." Said Hadji
"That is true Hadji, but he's also my mentor. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to quit in college, but Ogilvy believed in me and pushed me to continue. I wouldn't be the man I am today if it wasn't for him." said Benton
"Thank God for that." Said Race
"I also read that Professor Ogilvy is a little eccentric." Said Jessie
"Come on Jess, all those scientists are weird. Except for you Dad." Said Jonny catching himself
Moments later they arrive at the observatory, they go inside where they are greeted by Ogilvy. Ogilvy was an old sophisticated man in his early seventies. His hair was white from old age and he was wearing glasses and white lab coat
"Professor Ogilvy, it is so good to see you." Said Benton excited
"Benton my prized pupil it is good to see you too. And I see you brought companions." He spoke
"Yes. First, I want you to meet my sons Jonny and Hadji." Benton introduced
"What fine looking lads." Said Ogilvy complimenting them
"This is my bodyguard Race Bannon and his daughter Jessie." Benton introduced again
"Nice to meet you both." Said Ogilvy
"Professor, when you called me, it sounded urgent." Said Benton
"Yes Benton, I think I made an astounding discovery, come let me show you." Said Ogilvy as he takes them to the lab.
They go into the lab and inside was a huge telescope and computers.
"This place is amazing." Said Jessie
"Quite a place Jess." Said Race
"Are you all familiar with Mars?" Ogilvy asked
"Of course, there have been countless discoveries made on Mars." Said Benton
"The Government sent a rover on Mars and discovered water." Said Jonny
"For years we have been trying to find other life forms other planets with no avail. But I made have found it." Said Ogilvy
"You have found life on another planet?" Hadji asked
"How is that possible Professor?" Benton asked
"Last night I was looking through the telescope and I saw flashes of light near Mars. Appears to look like explosions." He spoke
"That sounds incredible." Said Benton
"I called Nasa and told them of my discovery and they called me a delusional old man." Said Ogilvy
"Why would they call you that?" Said Jessie sarcastically
"Cool it, Jess." Race warned
"It's okay young lady I'm not sure I believe it, but anyway you all must be hungry why don't we all go to my house for dinner." Ogilvy suggested
They all go back to Ogilvy's house and have dinner. They were sitting and eating when suddenly a woman walks in. The woman appears to be in her mid-thirties with long auburn brown hair.
"Everyone this is Rachel Harrison." Ogilvy introduced
"Rachel Harrison writer for the New York times?" Jessie asked recognizing the name
"Yes, and it's formerly." She spoke
"Rachel left her position to work for me full time to write my autobiography." Said Ogilvy
"Nice to meet you." Said Race as he's immediately smitten with her
Ogilvy took Benton aside to talk to him
"So, what do you think?" Ogilvy asked
"I always respected you, but I'm not sure what to believe." Said Benton
"Oh, I see you think I've lost control of my faculties too?" Ogilvy asked
"Why don't I sleep on it and we can continue this discussion in the morning." Benton suggested as Ogilvy agrees.
