You'll get Frostbite
Chapter 1: Beginnings
Izuku Midoriya rushed into his parents' room, a bright smile plastering his face. Immediately dashing for his mother's bed, he shook her awake. "Mummy! Mummy! Are we going to the quirk doctor's yet!?" he excitedly whispered, continuing to shake her.
"mmmmm… go back to bed Izuku, it's only 7 A.M" Inko Midoriya spoke whilst yawning.
"Fine, I'll just wake Daddy instead!" Izuku began to sneak over to his father's bed.
"No Izu… Ku, I told you to go back to be-" She suddenly shot out of bed, grabbing Izuku and taking him downstairs for breakfast after looking at him, a pleading look in her eyes. "Let's not wake your father. What do you want for breakfast Izu?"
"Hmmmm…" Izuku scrunched up his face, going into deep thought. "Waffles!" He yelled.
"Ok then, go get yourself ready to go and I'll put a birthday surprise on your waffles" Inko set her son down, chuckling and moving to prepare their waffles.
At the quirk doctor's
"Well then, Mrs Midoriya, young Izuku, after examining the blood sample you gave us, we have deduced that Izuku's quirk is a complete mixture of both mother's and father's" The quirk doctor returned from a side room, smiling broadly.
"Could you explain in more detail, please?" Inko asked.
"Well, as I previously stated, Izuku has both your quirk and his father's, however, he has more powerful variants of them. With your quirk, he can now freeze liquids to create constructs out of, instead of being limited to just vapours like yourself. With his father's quirk, his quirk should allow for finer control of where ice spreads, being able to cause ice to spread from contact anywhere on his body, instead of just the hands like his father, and larger range capabilities." The doctor checked his notes and continued to speak. "It seems he has the same drawbacks though, extreme brain freeze from overuse of what he inherited from you, and slowed reaction and movement speeds from what he inherited from his father."
"I see, thank you for this information. May I ask what you have named his quirk?" Inko placed Izuku in her lap, running her fingers through his hair.
"Ah yes, of course. I have decided to name his quirk 'Sheer Cold', due to it taking after two ice quirks which are, individually powerful and even stronger combined." The doctor stood up and turned to leave. "Thank you for coming in today, Mrs Midoriya, Izuku, it's not often I get to observe such an interesting quirk. Now, I must move on to my next-"
"Can I be a hero, with my quirk?" Izuku looked towards the doctor, excitement overflowing from his eyes. "Can I be like Mummy and Daddy?"
"With a quirk as powerful as yours, you can be an amazing hero." The quirk doctor opened the door for them to leave, a bright smile on his face. "Now, have a good day you two, and please, tell us of any new developments with Izuku's quirk."
"We will, thank you for your time" Inko grabbed Izuku's hand and walked out of the room, happiness and concern somehow adorning her face simultaneously.
Back at the Midoriya Residence
Inko carried her son through the door of their home, Izuku giggling uncontrollably as she tickled him.
"So?" Her husband's voice resounded through their house, Inko going stiff and setting Izuku down immediately.
"You got what you wanted… He has superior versions of our quirks" Fear etched itself into her heart, her voice becoming laced with it. "H-he hasn't yet awakened it, so there's no reason to begin training him until later."
"I don't care what you think, woman!" He struck her across the face, her body falling to the floor. "I'm not having someone as pathetic as you softening him up any more than you already have! Now go prepare the training area!" His voice was laced with venom that he didn't bother hiding, and his cold fury grew as she didn't move. "I said now!"
He grabbed Izuku by the wrist, dragging him away from his weeping mother "The world you're going to be part of doesn't have space for such weakness, boy."
10 years later
A disgruntled Izuku stepped up to the starting line for the first physical portion of the recommendations test, face cold and stoic, snow white hair moving slightly in the wind.
Of course, my dear old dad made me take the recommendations exam. Probably thinks he's going to get me to use his quirk by forcing me to the limits of Mum's quirk. Tch… I'll show that bastard. He looked around him, seeing that there was plenty of water within his reach. I would have thought that U.A. would at least make it difficult.
A buzzer resounded from above him, signalling for the applicants to get ready. He tugged at the water below him, waiting for the start to be signalled. A loud 'beep' signalled their start, as Present Mic's voice pierced their ears "Go! Go! Go!"
He pulled the water harder, it easily moulding to his will and creating four ice skate like constructs that fitted perfectly to his hands and feet. Using the other aspect of his mother's quirk, forcing the ice constructs forwards, propelling him towards the finish and around the obstacles at high speeds.
This was expected, he mused. But then he noticed something unexpected. A girl with long, half white, half red hair overtook him, being propelled by what looked to be… ice? 'Well, I'm not the only one with an ice quirk, this was bound to happen eventually' he thought.
As she crossed the finish line, he finished a mere second behind her, their cold gazes met, his grey eyes staring into her grey and blue ones.
the next day
Izuku yet again walked into a room in U.A., occupied by only Present Mic and the other recommended applicants, each of them being walked off one by one.
Eventually it was Izuku's turn, and he was taken to what seemed like a fake city. Present Mic then explained what he was supposed to do, before leaving.
Then, after about a minute, the ground started shaking a large shadow loomed overhead, a robot larger than the tallest building there towering above him. As it had been explained, Izuku had to defeat it as quickly and efficiently as possible. So, he did just that.
Seeing a nearby fire hydrant, he tugged at the water inside, which came bursting out of the hydrant, freezing and being shaped into what looked like a drill bit about as large as the boy wielding it. It then started to rotate and move towards the robot, becoming larger and larger as it did so, due to the boy freezing the moisture in the air around it and adding the new material to the drill.
By the time it reached the robot, it had grown to twice the size of Izuku and proceeded to go straight through the gargantuan robot's head, destroying it instantly.
Izuku was then led to an observation room, where the students who had gone before him stood, watching the trials on a large screen, the likes of which you would expect to see in a cinema. Other than him, there were three people in the room. One, a tall girl with black hair styled into a spiky ponytail and… relatively mature… assets. Another, a boy with a rather unusual face, having a flat nose, small eyebrows and teeth that sat on the outside of his skin. The third, was someone he recognised, the ice wielding girl from before… who was walking up to him, a cold, disinterested expression on her face.
"Can I help you?" Izuku met her cold gaze with his own.
"That was a decent display against your robot, what's your quirk?" Her gaze became colder and more calculating, is if she was trying to see right through him.
"Sheer Cold. I can freeze liquids and moisture and control them once they're frozen." His voice gained an edge to it, as he almost growled the latter half of the explanation. "I can also spread ice onto anything that comes in contact with my body, and use it at range by projecting 'freeze rays' from my fingers. Though I don't use that for reasons that I don't care to divulge. What's yours? You had a decent performance on the obstacle course."
"Half Hot Half Cold. I can produce ice from the right side of my body and fire from the left. Though, like you I don't use my left for reasons that I don't divulge" Her gaze shifted and she walked away to watch the other trials. 'hmm… someone like me' she thought.
Izuku turned his gaze to the screen as well, deep in thought. 'Like me, hey?'
