Chapter 7
INT. SEATTLE – ABANDONED CANNERY – NIGHT
ON RILEY AND VICTOR – in an embrace, a dark, discomfiting mirror image of the previous scene. They're on a secluded catwalk, away from the newborn army. It's sexy, intimate.
RILEY
You're not coming with us?
VICTOR
It'll be a last-minute decision. I told you how it works.
RILEY
(grins)
Right. The Cullens have "powers."
Victor pulls away, ever-so-slightly irritated by her tone.
VICTOR
Don't underestimate them, Riley. You'll have the numbers, but they'll be able to anticipate your every move.
RILEY
According to your friend.
He looks at her, not sure where she's going with this. He circles her -
VICTOR
Yes, my dead friend. Lauren found out about the things they could do and they killed her. But not before she told me.
RILEY
(carefully)
Maybe she was wrong.
(off his look)
This is supposed to be Cullen territory. But we've been tearing it up and I've never seen them here -
Fury flashes in Victor's eyes. He suddenly standing several feet away from her.
VICTOR
You don't trust me.
RILEY
With my life. I'm just saying -
VICTOR
(emotional)
I'm doing this for us. So we can hunt and feed without their retaliation. I'm not going to wait for them to attack -
She's suddenly next to him, wrapping her arms around him.
RILEY
I won't let that happen. I will end the Cullen clan – I promise.
He looks at her, then kisses her, hard.
VICTOR
I love you.
She embraces him – but over her shoulder, we see his eyes go flat, the emotion disappearing.
EXT. TRAIL IN THE WOODS – MORNING
CLOSE BEAU'S HAND – A PIN PRICKS IT and a single drop of BLOOD appears.
INCLUDE BEAU who touches his finger to the side of a tree. He moves up the trail to the next tree, touching it as well. A cold wind blows. The clouds above are dark. He continues, making his way to -
EXT. THE CLEARING (CONTINUOUS) – MORNING
Beau emerges into the empty field. He touches another tree. Edythe comes up behind him.
EDYTHE
You've gone overboard.
BEAU
If this is all I can contribute, I want to be thorough.
EDYTHE
Jess will be impressed and the newborns will be frantic. Now let me put a bandage on that.
She reaches for his left hand. He pulls it away, worried -
BEAU
I can do it. You don't have to make yourself uncomfortable.
EDYTHE
It doesn't bother me anymore.
BEAU
Since when?
- as she takes his hand. Puts a bandage on it.
EDYTHE
Since I spent twenty-four hours thinking you were dead.
She continues to hold his hand. He sees the wedding ring on her finger.
BEAU
You're wearing your ring.
EDYTHE
Haven't taken it off.
BEAU
Could you.
EDYTHE
(shocked)
Are you having second thoughts?
BEAU
No, definitely not. It's just -
EDYTHE
- You don't want Julie to see it.
BEAU
I should be the one to tell her. But, only after tomorrow's fight. Right now, everyone should a clear head.
JULIE (O.S.)
Whose head is unclear.?
They spin to find Julie across the clearing, carrying a backpack. She approaches -
BEAU
No one's, I hope.
Edythe and Julie nod curtly to one another. Beau nervously watches Julie, gauging her expression. She doesn't seem bothered.
Julie eyes the cloudy sky. Edythe does the same.
EDYTHE
Archie says there's a storm coming.
JULIE
I can feel it. We should get moving.
EDYTHE
I'll take a longer route. But I'll get there first. Set up camp.
Julie nods. Edythe turns to Beau, lifting her hand to stroke his face. CLOSE SHOT of Beau noticing Edythe's hand, NO RING. Edythe smiles searching Beau's face for ambivalence and surety. Finally, she kisses his cheek -
EDYTHE
I'll see you in a few hours.
She grabs her bag and some gear, leaves. Julie eyes Beau.
JULIE
Something up?
BEAU
(covering)
Just the usual; horde of vampires coming to kill me.
JULIE
Same old.
They share a smile. Beau approaches Julie. SUDDENLY, Julie holds up her hand, stepping away from Beau. He stops –
BEAU
Oh, right. You gotta phase so it better covers my scent.
JULIE
(grinning)
This'll be fun.
Julie hands Beau her backpack. He's slightly confused why she'd need it.
JULIE
My clothes don't stay together when I phase.
The penny drops for Beau and he nods curtly, but embarrassed. Julie chuckles at his embarrassment. She takes several steps back, her face hardens. Her body begins to vibrate, steam rising from her skin. BOOM. Clothing rips apart as she phases into her WOLF FORM. Beau jumps back, it'll never not be a surprise to witness this massive wolf emerges from her.
Julie-Wolf crouches low, gestures Beau to get on her back. He does. Tightening the backpack, he settles in. Julie-Wolf takes off into the woods as Beau holds on tight…
A SERIES OF SHOTS:
EXT. ABANDONED LUMBER YARD ON THE WATER – DAY
Riley leads the ARMY OF NEWBORNS across this ghostly yard. They move at a trot, LEAPING over pyramids of rotting logs. As they head for the water, FIND BRENDAN, doubt on his face…
EXT. WOODS – DAY
Julie-Wolf runs with Beau, maintaining a fast, but controlled pace, effortlessly carrying him. He holds on to her, his minds heavy with concerns -
EXT. PUGET SOUND BEACH – LATER DAY
ON THE MISTY, DESERTED BEACH… eerily, Riley rises from the water. Muddy and drenched but unfazed by the frigid water. She doesn't break stride, simply heads for the woods.
One by one the rest of the army appears behind her. They follow Riley, picking up speed. First walking, then running - an unstoppable force.
At the rear is BRENDAN…
EXT. WOODS – LATER DAY
BACK ON JULIE-WOLF CARRYING BEAU, climbing the mountainside, going up and up.
INTERCUTTING ENDS as Julie-Wolf and Beau reach -
EXT. MOUNTAIN PEAK – EVENING – AERIAL SHOT TO ESTABLISH
Julie-Wolf and Beau reach the peak where he'll camp for the night.
EXT. MOUNTAIN PEAK – EVENING
Snow falls in earnest now, glacial winds blow, Julie-Wolf leans down, letting Beau dismount. He hurries to the side of a peak to FIND -
A CAMPSITE – erected against the sheltering face of the peak. Edythe stands by the tent pacing, waiting. She's acutely relived to see him. She hugs him. Turns to Julie-Wolf -
EDYTHE
Thank you.
Julie-Wolf nods, then turns to Beau. He approaches Julie-Wolf and takes off the backpack. He turns around. OFF SCREEN we hear it unzip. Beau keeps his eyes on Edythe, though he's clearly uncomfortable.
JULIE
You can look now.
Beau frowns in suspicion. Edythe nods. He slowly turns. Julie is now in human form, dressed in a black t-shirt and jean shorts. No shoes. She grins at Beau -
JULIE
You really think I'm that shameless.
BEAU
Glad to know you're not.
Julie chuckles.
BEAU
You should get home before the storm hits.
JULIE
No, I'm staying. You'll need my connection to the pack to keeps tabs on what's going on.
Edythe looks down, none-to-happy but knowing Julie's right.
BEAU
(hopeful)
You're not fighting.
JULIE
Sarah will spell me in the morning. She's not happy about missing the action, but it'll keep her out of trouble.
Edythe notes his disappointment. But she covers, guiding Beau towards the tent -
EDYTHE
Let's get you inside.
EXT. TENT – NIGHT
Snow clows sideways as the wind batters the tent. A light glows from inside -
INT. EDYTHE AND BEAU'S TENT – SAME
A lantern burns. Beau's wrapped in his down sleeping bang, fully dressed. But his teeth rattle. It's that cold.
EDYTHE
I'm sorry. I should've chosen a site lower down.
BEAU
I'm f-fine. It's – kay.
EDYTHE
What can I do?
He can only shake his head. Edythe is in hell.
INT. EDYTHE AND BEAU'S TENT – SAME
Suddenly, the front ZIPPER opens - to reveal Julie.
JULIE
I can barely hear myself think with all that teeth chattering.
Julie starts to climb into the tent. Edythe reads her mind.
EDYTHE
Absolutely not.
JULIE
He might need his toes someday. Besides – I am hotter than you.
Julie begins to crawl to Beau side but EDYTHE'S HAND is suddenly hard on her shoulder. Julie's jaw clenches -
JULIE
Take. Your hand. Off me.
EDYTHE
Keep away from him.
BEAU
(pleading)
S-stop it. D-don't – fight.
Edythe sees his severe discomfort. She very reluctantly pulls her hands away. Julie looks at her in all seriousness.
JULIE
He gets sick, it's on you.
Edythe debates, then makes a hard choice… she nods. Julie climbs into the sleeping bag next to Beau. Edythe seethes.
JULIE
(to Beau)
I could warm you up a lot faster if you took your clothes off.
BEAU
(through gritted teeth)
Julie -
JULIE
Survival one-oh-one.
Edythe glares. But quickly sees that BEAU shivering begins to lessen, and the relief of warmth sweeps over him. Off Edythe, envious…
INT. TENT – LATER NIGHT
ON BEAU, no longer shaking. His eyelids are losing the fight against sleep. INCLUDE JULIE, spooned behind him, resting on one elbow, facing Edythe across the tent. Edythe glares at her.
EDYTHE
Can't you at least try to control your thoughts.
JULIE
Call it payback for listing in on mine.
EDYTHE
Trust me, I'd shut you out if I could.
JULIE
Wow, I really get under that ice cold skin of yours, don't I. What, doubting his feelings for you?
ON BEAU – His eyes flicker opens slightly. The girls don't see he's awake. When Edythe doesn't answer, Julie scoffs -
JULIE
Nice. So picking through my head's okay, but letting me into yours, forget it.
(no response)
Look. I know he's in love with you -
EDYTHE
- Good -
JULIE
- But he's in love with me, too. He just refuses to admit it to himself.
EDYTHE
(long beat)
I can't tell if your right.
Julie's taken aback by her honesty. Beat.
JULIE
Then let me ask you something. If he chooses me -
EDYTHE
He won't -
JULIE
- But if he did. Would you try to kill me?
ON BEAU – he waits for the answer.
EDYTHE
That's an intriguing idea. But no. I could never hurt him that way.
JULIE
You'd just turn him into a bloodsucking demon like you.
EDYTHE
I don't want that. I never did.
JULIE
Then stop him.
EDYTHE
I tried. From the very beginning I tried. I started with hope he'd outgrow me. Lose interest. That didn't happen.
JULIE
Maybe you gave up too quickly.
EDYTHE
Then my aim was to stay with him throughout his natural life but… my world is too dangerous for him as a human. So, I took myself out of his world.
JULIE
I remember.
EDYTHE
I was trying to force him to let go of me. But it nearly killed us both. Which leaves only one choice. To do what he wants -
JULIE
- Or thinks he wants.
ON BEAU – taking this in. But his eyelids grow heavier.
JULIE
Go back to option three. If you'd stayed away another six months, or so, he'd have been fine. Give me more time.
(beat, quietly)
You have to consider the idea that I might be better for him than you are.
EDYTHE
I have considered that.
(then)
I know you can protect him. But also… you could give him a life. A human life. I want that for him. But… I won't force him into anything again.
Julie nods. A beat.
JULIE
Thanks. For letting me in your head.
EDYTHE
I suppose I'm feeling… grateful tonight. For your presence in his life.
(amused at a thought)
It's funny, if it weren't for the fact that we're natural enemies… and if you weren't trying to steal away my reason for existing. I might… actually like you.
JULIE
Well, if you weren't planning to suck the life out of the guy I love, I might - no, not even then.
Edythe has to laugh. As we PUSH IN ON BEAU'S FACE – sleep taking over…
JULIE (V.O.)
There's still a chance. That he might change his mind.
EDYTHE (V.O.)
Then I'd let him go.
CLOSE ON BEAU'S FACE – SUDDENLY IN BRIGHT LIGHT.
His eyes open, MORNING LIGHT blinding him. INCLUDE -
INT. TENT (CONTINUOUS) – MORNING
The sun outside illuminates the tent. Beau is alone…
EXT. TENT – MORNING
The wind had died. The ground is white with snow, the campsite eerily quiet. The tent unzips and Beau climbs out… to FIND – A YOUNG WOLF staring at him, sitting on her haunches.
BEAU
Hi Sarah.
Sarah-Wolf pants a little; it passes for a "hello."
BEAU
Where's Julie? Did she already -
EDYTHE (O.S.)
Not yet.
He turns as Edythe rounds the peak, joins him.
EDYTHE
She's making sure the woods are clear before she goes.
She wraps her arms around him. Sarah-wolf jogs off.
BEAU
I'm sorry about last night. That couldn't have been easy on you.
EDYTHE
It definitely won't make my list of top ten favourite evenings.
BEAU
You have a list?
EDYTHE
All ten were spent with you. Number one is when you proposed to me -
- Edythe lifts her hand, showing the ring. She delicately caresses it.
EDYTHE
I'll be Mrs. Edythe Swan.
BEAU
(laughs)
This is the twenty-first century; you can hyphenate-
JULIE (O.S.)
You're marrying her?
He spins to find Julie has reappeared. Her face is devastated, fighting tears of rage, betrayal.
JULIE'S POV – she sees the ring on Edythe's finger.
BEAU
Julie, I -
(realizing, to Edythe)
You… knew she was listening.
EDYTHE
She deserves to know.
- which confirms for Julie that it's true. She turns, strides towards the woods. Beau starts to run after her.
BEAU
Stop! Julie -
EDYTHE
Beau -
BEAU
(spins on Edythe)
Don't. Just let me talk to her.
Edythe sees his desperation. She sinks, resigning, and heads into the woods, disappearing. Beau races to Julie -
BEAU
Jules, please -
JULIE
(spins on him)
I'm done. I'm so done -
BEAU
Just tell me how to fix this?
JULIE
You can't. But I can. By going down there and killing something -
BEAU
No. Not like this. You're not thinking clearly -
JULIE
Maybe I'll just get myself killed and make things simpler for you -
BEAU
What? No! – Julie, please stay.
JULIE
Why? Give me one damn reason, Beau?
BEAU
Because I can't lose you.
JULIE
(heading off)
Not good enough -
BEAU
- Because – you're my best friend -
JULIE
Still not good enough.
BEAU
Because you're too important to me – please -
She keeps walking. He desperately searches for something to convince her -
BEAU
Because I love you!
She stops. Looks back at him. Beau rushes towards Julie. They're inches apart. Beau softly kisses her. He separates. They stare at each other.
Julie then pulls him in for another kiss; this one deeper, more passionate. Her anger melts as she embraces him. As the kiss continues, Beau, to his reluctance and surprise, surrenders himself to it…
PUSH IN CLOSE ON HIS FACE as a wave of repressed feelings rises up, flooding his mind…
EXT. BEAU'S HOUSE – DAY (BEAU'S FANTASY)
A SERIES OF FAST DISSOLVES, ONE INTO ANOTHER – YEARS PASS:
- Beau and Julie, arm in arm, sitting on the stoop in the bright sunlight…
- Now they're in their late 20's – They rock an INFANT. RENÉE appears, takes the child, joyously tosses her grandchild in the air.
- Early 30's – There are TWO KIDS now. Julie plays with the oldest girl as Beau and a happy, aging Charlie help the TODDLER BOY to walk.
- 40's – Their TWO GROWN KIDS pile out of Julie's car. Home for a holiday. Grey-haired Charlie and Bonnie are there with Beau to welcome them…
- 60's – It's Beau and Julie who are greying now, playing with their own grandchildren. Contented. A family -
EXT. CAMPSITE – ECU ON BEAU – MORNING
- as he abruptly snaps out of it. Pulls away, reeling. Julie whispers in his ear.
JULIE
That should've been our first kiss.
Julie is torn, doesn't want to leave -
JULIE
I have to go – I won't be long.
Julie heads out to the fight. Beau lets his head sink, guilt-ridden, confused, emotional – he takes a sharp breath before hurrying back to the tent -
BEAU
Edythe -
She appears from around the rock, comes towards him. He sees her face, stops. She knows.
BEAU
You saw.
EDYTHE
No. But Julie's thoughts were pretty loud.
BEAU
I didn't - I mean… I don't know what happened.
EDYTHE
You love her.
BEAU
I love you more. I choose you.
EDYTHE
I shouldn't have forced you to choose between us -
BEAU
Please don't be understanding. I don't deserve it -
EDYTHE
It's my fault. When I went away, I left you bleeding and she stitched you up. I can't blame you for something I made necessary -
BEAU
Don't blame yourself.
EDYTHE
All I want is for you to be happy, no matter -
- But she stops abruptly – turns to SEE Sarah-wolf loping out of the woods, growling. Edythe reads her thoughts.
FLASHPOP TO – EXT. CLEARING IN THE WOODS – MORNING (SARAH'S/EDYTHE'S VISION)
A PAIR OF MALE BARE FEET step into the wet grass. PAN UP TO FIND A NEWBORN. Hungry. Ready for a fight -
BACK ON EDYTHE – HER EXPRESSION GRAVE. SHE TURNS TO BEAU.
EDYTHE
It's starting.
EXT. CLEARING IN THE WOODS – MORNING
BACK ON THAT MALE NEWBORN – a beat, then suddenly from behind him -
THE ENTIRE NEWBORN ARMY BLITZES out of the woods and into the field! SEE the frenzy in their eyes. Their rabid thirst as they follow the scent of Beau's blood. But the scent trail ends here. They're confused…
Suddenly, something BOLTS from the trees WITH LIGHTNING SPEED and TACKLES A NEWBORN -
THE OTHER NEWBORNS spins to find a lethal-looking JESSAMINE in a crouch beside her victim's body, holding its disembodied HEAD -
They RUSH Jessamine but - BAM! BAM! BAM! THREE OF THEM go down, tackled by Earnest, Royal, Carine, Eleanor and Archie -
Out of nowhere lunges SAM-WOLF flanked by two wolves. They TEAR a newborn to pieces. Four other wolves dive into the fray -
WE SMASH FROM ONE SAVAGE CONFLUICT TO ANOTHER, RAW, BRUTAL -
- Eleanor sprints full-bore into the fight, relishing the battle.
- The wolves work as a pack, coordinated, deadly.
- Jessamine controls the field – strategy and speed vs. strength.
- Royal fights with icy calm. Archie with precognition. Earnest and Carine fight side-by-side.
- But the newborns are brutal and strong as hell. Our vampire/wolves are taking some vicious hits – then -
IN SLOW MOTION – Julie-wolf charges into the clearing, tackling a newborn, going for its neck -
EXT. CAMPSITE – SAME
ON EDYTHE reading Sarah-wolf's mind, translating for Beau.
EDYTHE
Julie just got there - she's good.
STAY ON EDYTHE'S FACE as she SEES the action through Sarah-wolf's mind. CAMERA CIRCLES EDYTHE as Beau and her surroundings DISAPPEAR – DISSOLVING INTO -
THE BATTLEFIELD (INSIDE EDYTHE'S MIND)
Edythe stands amidst the fight, the action all around her:
- Sam-wolf and Julie-wolf charge a Newborn – each wolf grab and arm in their mouths and RIP -
- Paula-wolf is surrounded by THREE NEWBORNS; Eleanor comes to her aid. They share a look, a battlefield rapprochement.
- Carine and Earnest move in on BRENDAN - but he backs up frightened. Earnest and Carine share a look. They relax their attack stance, try to calm him, talk to him…
- Archie darts from newborn to newborn, not even looking at them, knowing their next move. He sweeps their feet, keeping them off balance, confusing them - it's a dance.
- Jessamine is a step behind him, trying to give him cover.
Edythe sees a NEWBORN take note of Jessamine's protective actions. Edythe yells at Jessamine, though she can't hear -
EDYTHE
Jess – back of - you can't be everywhere at – watch out!
- as a NEWBORN appears behind Jessamine and BITES her shoulder. Archie spins, FLINGS the newborn to Royal, Eleanor and Carine who KILL him. Archie tends to Jessamine, angry -
ARCHIE
I can handle myself.
EXT. MOUNTAIN CAMPSITE – BACK ON EDYTHE AND BEAU
BEAU
Is Jessamine alright? Edythe -
But she sees only Sarah-wolf's thoughts, talks to herself -
EDYTHE
Don't let them protect each other - good, go around -
- suddenly Edythe stops, blinks, briefly disoriented as her mind is cut-off from the battlefield. She looks around, finds Sarah-wolf frozen, as well. They share a tense look.
BEAU
Someone's hurt -
EDYTHE
Sarah, go.
Sarah-wolf BOLTS away from the campsite, fast.
BEAU
Is it Jessamine?
Edythe whips Beau behind her against a cliff wall and takes a defensive stance in front of him.
EDYTHE
He's close – I can hear his thoughts. He saw we weren't there but he caught my scent -
EXT. CLEARING – TREELINE/BATTLEFIELD – MINUTES EARLIER
VICTOR searches the battlefield from the treeline. He abruptly turns away from the fight, and starts running, following Edythe's scent -
EDYTHE (V.O.)
He knew I'd be with you, knew Archie would be too busy to see him decide -
BACK ON BEAU AND EDYTHE
BEAU
Victor found us.
EDYTHE
And he's not alone.
Which is when RILEY steps out of the woods. Beau immediately recognises her, is taken aback. Riley edges closer, watching Edythe's every move. As they both carefully position themselves -
EDYTHE
Riley. Listen to me. Victor's only using you – to distract me. But he knows I'll kill you.
Riley hesitates. Surprised to be addressed.
EDYTHE
Actually, he's glad he won't have to deal with you anymore.
VICTOR emerges from the woods, forming a triangle with Riley – Beau and Edythe at the apex.
VICTOR
Don't listen to her, Riley. I told you about their mind tricks.
EDYTHE
I can read his mind. That's how I know what he thinks of you. How I know he doesn't love you.
VICTOR
She's lying -
EDYTHE
His sole purpose for creating you and this army was to avenge his true mate, Joss. That's all he cares about. Not you.
Riley's beginning to hesitate. She glances at Victor.
VICTOR
There's only you. You know that.
Riley focuses back on Edythe, positioning herself to attack. Victor's eyes burrow into Beau's with bloodlust, revenge.
EDYTHE
Think about it. You're from Forks, you know the area. That's why he picked you. He's using you like he's using the rest of them -
Riley falters ever-so-slightly, doubt seeping into her mind. But Victor's face is convincingly emotional.
VICTOR
Riley, don't let her do this to us. You know I love you.
Riley needs to believe him. Her resolve returns -
JULIE
(to Edythe)
You're dead.
Riley CHARGES toward Edythe who doesn't move because she knows -
Sarah-wolf is LEAPING from the cliff above – to land on Riley, taking a chunk out of Riley's hand.
Riley ROARS with fury and pain as Sarah-wolf circles back for another attack. While Sarah-wolf keeps Riley on the defence, Edythe starts towards -
Victor – he backs towards the trees. Edythe sees he's about to escape – DARTS into his path -
EDYTHE
I know you can escape. You always do. But you'll never get another chance like this.
Victor hisses at her, backs further away.
EDYTHE
Don't you want him? Don't you want me to feel the pain you felt when I killed Joss? When I ripped her to pieces, burned to ash… turned her into nothing.
Victor finally erupts and CHARGES Beau -
But Edythe never lets him get close – she intercepts him and they ROLL down the hill in a death grip -
ON BEAU – watching this battle, desperate to help -
Meanwhile, Riley kicks Sarah-wolf hard against the cliff. Sharp SHARDS of rock fall around Beau.
Sarah-wolf, battered, goes down. Riley spins towards Beau -
Edythe now has to protect Beau from BOTH VAMPIRES! And she does with impressive skill – with lightning-fast speed, she bolts to Riley, kicking her back, she darts to Victor, smashing into him -
As Sarah-wolf struggles to rise, Riley joins Victor's battle providing him with the tiny advantage he needs -
BEAU'S POV ON EDYTHE – Riley tackles her to her knees, Victor grabs Edythe from behind -
TIME FREEZES – SLOW MOTION as Beau's eyes meets Edythe's -
CLOSE ON BEAU'S FACE – SEE his clarity; he's never in his life been more sure of what he wants than this moment - with purpose he grabs up a sharp piece of slate -
FLASHPOP – To the Third Husband raising his dagger -
- Beau PLUNGES the shard downward, STABBING HIS ARM! Blood immediately flows DRIPPING BRIGHT RED ONTO THE WHITE SNOW -
SMASH BACK TO REAL TIME
ON RILEY spinning towards Beau, the scent making her wild -
ON VICTOR catching the smell; his head WHIPS towards Beau -
- Edythe seizes the moment – dead drops to the ground while FLIPPING VICTOR over her head, across the clearing and INTO A TREE BREAKING IT IN TWO!
- Edythe spins on Riley who's still bedazzled by the blood -
- HEAR A SCREECHING SOUND like metal tearing, as suddenly, Riley's SCREAMING! Her arm is gone! Edythe tosses the arm aside and bolts back to Victor -
- Sarah-wolf, recovered, LEAPS UP, tackles Riley and drags her SCREAMING into the woods -
RILEY
Victor!
- Victor doesn't even glance at her, revealing to Riley the painful truth. The last thing we see of Riley is her tragically betrayed face… then we HEAR the sounds of Sarah tearing her apart, the metallic screeching…
As Beau tears his shirt to create a make-shift bandage -
- Edythe CHARGES Victor - the two CLASH and begin a blurred battle. Until she pummels him down and, finally, manoeuvrers herself behind him, getting him in a death grip -
Victor struggles; Beau is directly in his eye-line. He glares at Beau who glares back, every bit as fiercely -
Edythe's lips are at Victor's neck - it looks as if she kisses him - she BITES a huge chunk from his neck, ripping his head off.
AS BEAU WATCHES Victor's body crumble to the ground…
ALL SOUND DISAPPEARS. The air does still. The atmosphere changes. This nemesis, this relentless demon, is finally dead. Or almost. Eerily, it still moves slightly.
A long beat. Then Edythe looks up at Beau. Their eyes meet. But shame and fear cloud her face. He moves towards her. Steadily. As he reaches her, she turns away.
BEAU
Edythe…
EDYTHE
I didn't want you to see that.
He stops her, touhes her face tenderly, his eyes telling her it's okay.
EDYTHE
That arm needs cleaning and a proper bandage.
She starts for the tent but Sarah-wolf abruptly lets out a sharp BARK. Edythe turns; her expression fills with concern -
BEAU
Something's wrong.
EDYTHE
Archie wants us to come. Now.
BEAU
Why? What's happening?
EXT. WOODS - DAY
SLOW MOTION - The Volturi – Jonathan, Alecia, Demetri, Felix – glide past the trees with effortless grace and speed…
