In the night sky, birds were flying and happily tweeting. A double-decker bus was being driven by a young man named Jonathan Loughran, who narrated as he came close to a spooky building known as Hotel Transylvania, "If you look ahead, you'll see Hotel Transylvania, a place where monsters can rest in peace. It's just like any other hotel, except humans are advised to steer clear of it because of vicious creatures like Count Dracula."

One passenger, a little boy, asked, "Count Dracula?"

"Why, a vampire. They bite your neck to suck blood out of you."

That scared the boy as he buried his face in his mom's shoulder. She assured him, "Don't worry, we'll just avoid this hotel like the plague."

Inside Hotel Transylvania, the dinner theater was full of guests. Dracula was seated at a Sentient Table at the very front, standing tall as gave the intro, "Ladies and gentlemonsters, Count Dracula presents the 666th Annual Hotel Transylvania Talent Show!"

Everyone cheered as he resumed, "I know you all really looking forward to the performances this year, I can assure everyone that this will be the finest display of entertainment. Frank, Wayne, Griffin, Murray, everybody will be spectacular! Especially my little Mavis. Anyway, let's get this show on the road."

The lights dimmed as Drac uttered one final statement, "Our first performer, Mavis!"

However, as the curtains rose and a spotlight shone on the center of the stage, Mavis... was not there. Gasps filled the room as Dracula was outraged and angry, roaring, "MAVIS!"

From a safe distance, Mavis was spying on the bus approaching Hotel Transylvania. Her friends were Wendy Blob, Hank N. Stein, and Pedro. The latter was falling behind as he said, "Wait for me, guys."

Mavis shot back, "Hurry up!"

"You know I can't run that fast."

"There it is. Isn't it fantastic?"

Wendy Blob murmured to Mavis, "Yeah, sure, it-it's great. Now let's get outta here."

"You're not getting cold goo now, are you?"

"Who, me?"

Hank said, "No way. It's just, it, err... we're straying pretty far from the hotel, and I think I may be coming down with something. Yeah, I got this cough."

As Hank coughed unconvincingly, Mavis said as she departed, "All right. I'm going inside. You guys can just stay here and watch for dad."

Pedro said, "Ok, yeah, you go. We'll stay and- What? Your dad! Mavis!"

The three followed their vampire friend as she saw the bus pass by. Mavis was delighted to see an artifact land by her feet. It was a digital camera. She guffawed, "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Have you ever seen anything so wonderful in your entire life?"

Wendy deadpanned, "Oh yeah, that bus quite a show."

"Show? Oh, the talent show! Oh my gosh, my dad's gonna kill us!

Hank gasped, "The show was today? We gotta go!"

Cut to the Devil, spying on the pack of teenage monsters looking at humans as he said, "Yes, hurry home, all of you. We wouldn't want to miss old daddy's celebration, now, would we? Huh! Celebration indeed. Bah! In MY day, I struck fantastical deals, but now I make practically nothing while he and his flimsy monster folks celebrate. Well, I'll give 'em something to celebrate soon enough. I'm gonna keep an extra close watch on this pretty little daughter of his. She may be the key to Dracula's undoing."

Fade to the lobby of Hotel Transylvania where Mavis was being admonished by her father, "I just don't know what we're going to do with you, young lady."

"Dad, I'm sorry, I just forgot, I-"

"As a result of your careless behavior."

Frank added, "Careless and reckless behavior!"

Dracula kept venting, "The entire celebration was, er..."

Wayne filled for Drac, "Well, it was ruined! That's all. Completely destroyed! This talent was to be the pinnacle of amusement for this hotel, but now it's an incident that's notable in all the wrong ways."

Wendy defended Mavis, "But it wasn't her fault! Ah, well, first, ahh, this loud honking bus got her attention. You know easily distracted she gets by noisy vehic-"

Griffin interrupted, "Bus? What? Oh, you went up to the surface again, didn't you? DIDN'T YOU?!"

Mavis muttered, "Nothing happened."

Her dad groaned, "Oh, Ariel, how many times must we go through this? You could've been seen by one of those barbarians, by one of those humans!"

"Dad, they're not barbarians!"

"They're dangerous. Do you think I want to see my only daughter captured and killed by garlic and wooden stakes? Your mother died at the hands of those savages!"

"I'm 118 years old, I'm not a child anymore!"

"Don't you take that tone of voice with me, young lady. As long as you live under my hotel, you'll obey my rules!"

"But if you would just listen."

"Not another word, and I am never, NEVER to hear of you going to the surface again. Is that clear?"

Without giving a verbal response, Mavis ran off with tears in her eyes as her friends followed. Murray grumbled, "Hmph! Teenagers, they think they know everything. You give them an inch, and they walk all over you."

However, Drac wondered, "Do you guys, er, think I was too hard on her?"

Frank assured him, "Definitely not. Why, if Mavis was my daughter, I'd show her who was boss. None of this "flitting to the surface" and other such nonsense. No, sir. I'd keep her under tight control.

Drac smiled, "You're absolutely right. Mavis needs constant supervision."

"Constant."

"Someone to watch over her, to keep her out of trouble."

"All the time."

"Which is why I need friends like all of you."

All of Dracula's pals followed Mavis, Wayne bemoaning, "How do we get ourselves into these situations? We should be marketing the hotel to other monsters, not tagging along after some headstrong teenager."

Seeing Mavis and her friends sneaking off, they followed with Griffin asking himself, "Hmm? What are they up to?"

They barely made it into Mavis's bedroom, which was a luxury suite, seeing her collection of stuff dropped by humans as Murray squinted, "Huh?"

Meanwhile, Wendy was the first to ask Mavis, "Mavis, are you okay?"

It didn't seem that way since Mavis complained, "If only I could make him understand. I just don't see things the way he does. I don't see how a world that makes such wonderful things... could be bad."

Turning on an MP3 Player, Mavis played some music, making Frank facepalm, "Oh, god. She's gonna sing."

Yes, Mavis sung.

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think that my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl, the girl who has everything?

Look at this trove, treasures untold
How many wonders can one hotel hold?
Looking around here you think, "Sure, she's got everything."

I got gadgets and gizmos aplenty, I got whozits and whatzits galore.
You want thingamabobs? I got 20, but who cares? No big deal, I want mooooooore.

I want to be where the people are, I want to see, want to see them dancing, walking around on those, what do you call them? Oh. Feet.
Flapping your wings, you don't get too far, legs are required for jumping, dancing, strolling along down a, what's that word again? Street.

Out where they walk, out where they run
Out where they stay all day in the sun

Wandering free, wish I could be part of that world

What would I give if I could live
Away from those rotters?

What would I pay to spend a day
There on the land?

I'll bet you it's grand, they understand
Bet they don't reprimand their daughters

I'm not lyin', I'm sick of flyin'
I'm ready to stand

And ready to know what the people know
Ask them my questions
And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it
What's the word?
Burn?

When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love
Love to explore while free as a dooooove?
Out of this suite
Wish I could be
Part of that world

Once the song was over, Frank knocked on the door, "Uh, Mavis?"

Mavis was startled as she said, "C-Come in."

They all, but they weren't happy to see what Mavis had collected over the years, Wayne growled, "Mavis, are you mad?! How could you... what is all this?!"

"It, err, it's just my... collection.

"Oh. I see. Your collection. Hmmm. IF YOUR FATHER KNEW ABOUT THIS PLACE, HE'D-"

Hank asked, "You're not gonna tell him, are you?"

Mavis tried to reason with them, "Oh, please, he would never understand."

Frank then said, "You're under a lot of pressure in here, Mavis. Come with me, let's get you something warm to drink while we have a little talk about your... obsession."

Fireworks suddenly lit the sky around ship. Mavis and her friends looked on, amazed. Wayne griped, "Mavis, what-what are you doing?! Mavis? Mavis! Please come back!"

Mavis did not, she looked out a window and saw Jonathan lighting up some fireworks. It seemed his work was done for the day as he lit fireworks under the supervision of Linda and Mike, his parents. Immediately, the teen vampire was stricken with the human man and Pedro asked, "Quite a show, eh?"

Mavis shushed him, "Be quiet! They'll hear you."

"Oooh, I gotcha, I gotcha. We're being intrepidatious. WE'RE OUT TO DISCOVER!"

To silence Pedro, Mavis unraveled him before she looked back at Johnny, "I've never seen a human this close before. Oh, he's very handsome, isn't he?"

Wendy Blob was uncertain, "I dunno, red hair is for nerds."

Linda had a large box with her, "It is now my honor and privilege to present our esteemed our Johnny with a very special, very expensive, very large birthday present."

Johnny chuckled, "Oh, mom. You shouldn't have."

The present turned out to be a large, gaudy statue of Johnny, who chuckled more nervously now, "Gee, mom. It's, err, it's, err - it's really something."

"Yes, I melted down lot of my old gold and jewelry to create it. I think it would be a wedding present, but..."

Mike then droned, "Come on, Linda, don't start. Look, you're not still sore because he didn't fall for that lady from that bus station, are you?"

"Oh, Mike. Look, Johnny, your father and I just want to see you happily settled down with the right girl."

Jonathan assured his mother, "Well, she's out there somewhere. I just... haven't found her yet."

"Well, perhaps you haven't been looking hard enough."

"Believe me, mom, when I find her, I'll know, without a doubt. It'll just zing to me."

As the Loughrans ran out of fireworks, Mavis kept looking at Johnny in a trance-like fashion with her elbows on the windowsill and her cheeks in her palms, thinking, "He's so dreamy."

Again, Mavis sung

What would I give
To live where you are?

What would I pay
To stay here beside you?

What would I do to see you
Smiling at me? Where would we walk?
Where would we run?
If we could stay all day in the sun?

Just you and me
And I could be
Part of your world
