SPYRO: THE DRAGON WARRIOR
Chapter 1: THE BEGINNING
In the middle of what seems to be a wasteland a crystal was seen in the distance, it was large and it was buried in the ground, it was colored purple and it looked to be containing something. Suddenly a loud rumbling noise was heard in the background. It was a black moon moving close to the sun and it appears a solar eclipse is gonna happen.
As the moon got closer, the sky began to change to a red color and the ground also changed its color, making everything look and feel more hellish. Once the moon was fully aligned and blocked out the sun, once in position it did something unexpected. The moon produced dark-orange colored electricity and then a bolt of it struck the stump. As the tree continued to be shocked by the mystical bolt made by the eclipse the crystal started to crack and soon.
BOOOOM
The sun was slowly setting but the damage was done as a black silhouette of a figure standing right where the crystal used to be.
The figure has the shape of a dragon, it was big, wingless and was black as the night, it was covered in spikes from shoulder to his head, with a blade on it tail, its eyes were yellow with slits and with flames for eyebrows. After a few minutes of silence the being spoke with what some may consider the voice of a demon.
?: Once again, I am FREE to smite the world as I did in days long past.
Meanwhile in a temple far away from the wasteland a beautiful city was bussing around with its inhabitants, Dragons, Cheetahs, Moles and Humans were moving around freely, doing their own activities, citizens were going around opening stores, children were playing around, and the guards were busy patrolling the walls and keeping the civilians safe.
Inside the temple a dragon and a little dragonet were in a room filled with paintings and portraits that told of a great battle. The large dragon could stand on his two back legs, and it had a muscle build to that of a great warrior, he wore armor fit for battle but was made to give the user a better flexibility for combat. He was colored red with a hint of orange in some spots. He was the Dragon King of this kingdom and the dragonet next to him was his son, the prince of Warfang. The dragonet walked on all fours instead of two like his father, his scales were the color purple, a rare color for dragons, he wore a purple kanchi and his underbelly and his horns and spikes were colored gold, he had Lapis colored eyes. Right now the dragon King was telling his son the story in which the portraits told.
"The evil Dark lord Malefor arose from the bowels of Hate to ravage our homeland," The Dragon King recalled to his son who stood in awe. "I was a young dragon king at the time. I was helpless against his powers. But I remembered our grandfather's grandfather's story of three elves who were gifted with mystical powers. I flew to the highest peak of the mountainside where the monks agreed to forge me an enchanted blade with great magic, along with the gift to use all the elements, for which I passed to you my son."
As he spoke, his son looked in awe of the portraits that were made to describe the battle that took place that day before he was born.
"Armed with the blade and the hope of my people, I plunged it into battle against Malefor," he said, escorting his son across the succeeding portraits of the great battle that occurred. "His evil was no match for the power of righteousness. And, with the sword's magic, Malefor's demon forces were implanted into the Earth, forever petrified in the wasteland that he created."
The Dragon king of Warfang solemnly closed his eyes as this history lesson was over. He could only hope that his son heeded his words well. The pair walked on over to the stone balcony that overlooked the dragon cities square and beyond, as city folk joyfully lived their free lives out of the reign of the demon from the dark as the Guardsmen stood vigilant in their watch.
"For years of hard work, we have rebuilt our glorious past, with hopes never to encounter an evil such as the dark master ever again," the Dragon king outstretched his arms in pride of the work he oversaw. As the senior turned to labor in the rest of his Imperial labors and duties, he gave one more discourse, concluding his lesson to his little son this day. "Always be alert, my little Spyro, for the presence of evil is sometimes right behind you" And with that the dragon king went on to attend to his duties.
The young dragon Prince found himself alone again as he smiled mischievously. He drew his wooden sword and swung it around as though he was his father fighting Malefor. As he laughed and sputtered his idea of battle noises, what he didn't notice a very dark presence started to surround them all. The bright and clear day turned blood-red as an ominous shadow eclipsed the proud city. An eerie hum replaced the sounds of nature as a mysterious force once believed to be destroyed made its grand entrance.
The Soon-to-Be-king dropped his wooden toy in terror of the demon that was destroyed all those years ago.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Invasion alarm bells rung as the Dragon king knew what they were signaling for. Even from where he sat in his private chambers drinking tea with his wife, he knew this was not another drill.
"No! It cannot be!" He doubted, but the reality made itself clear soon enough.
the Imperial majesties barged right in. The roof exploded as the tower was ripped from its place and cast aside as Malefor scowled as he saw the man who imprisoned him for so long.
"MALEFOR!" The Emperor exclaimed.
Royal Guardsmen filled the chamber, escorting the family away as cheetah archers drew their bows and spearmen launched their weapons at the monster before them. Quick reaction teams filled the streets outside as they had long prepared for and readied arms while other soldiers readied trebuchets and catapults.
Malefor effortlessly absorbed their shelling before sending them flying back at their owners. His eyes glowed yellow as another nasty surprise made itself clear. Beams of energy shot through, igniting buildings full of innocents as everything in its deadly path was set ablaze and eradicated.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
"The sword!" The Dragon king knew what to do. He ran at best possible speed, despite his age, for the glass case that held the sacred blade in its cradle. Malefor took notice.
"Not this time!"
Instead of killing him right there, he had special plans for his longtime enemy. Before aged hands gripped the scabbard, Malefor gripped the Dragon leader in his hand and took him away to be his first trophy and slave. The dragon screamed in agony as all the terrified Prince could do was look on. He leapt forth, not wanting to leave his father behind, but his loving mother caught him in her arms.
"Nina! Malefor has returned! Do as we have planned; our future depends on it!" Those were the last words spoken by the Dragon king as he was taken away.
The Queen was no fighter, but knew what had to be done. Ferrying her crying son in her arms, she quickly fetched the divine sword from its resting place and was escorted out by surviving members of the Guard.
The catastrophe that struck the countryside was witnessed by all. With the military decimated, they fell and scattered into a full retreat. Devastation fell upon the populace as Malefor summoned demons and monsters to strike fear into the hearts of men, women, and children alike. All who dared make a stand were cut down in front of others. The chaos that ensued will reach the four corners of the Earth. History shall be rewritten, as the Age of the dark master has begun.
Far away from the city the young Spyro and Nina were able to get away on a small boat and they rowed out to sea with the wrist blade but Spyro could only stare at his destroyed homeland and shed tears again.
Later the two rowed into a fog and out of the fog comes a ship where some of the dragon kings' people manage to escape. Spyro's mother puts him on the ship but she doesn't come aboard. The dragonet watches in confusion and realizes his mother isn't joining him as she continues to do her part of the plan. She sadly looks at her son one last time and disappears in the mist with the wrist blade. Once she was gone, Spyro just stares into the distance his mother was last seen.
The captain, who will be Spyro's first mentor in the plan, puts a hand on the dragonets shoulder to assure him everything will be alright and then walks away to another part of the ship. The dragonet looks into his mentor's direction, then back into the distance where his mother disappeared... then walks towards his mentor's direction.
And so, the dragonets' training began, that is the plan. On the ship, the dragonet was learning astrology to help him travel across the world. The stars in the night sky showed constellations. After a few days, weeks even, the ship departed in another land that looks different. The palace was seen and a Hippogriff that was known as the sultan welcomed the dragon's people since they realized the plan was ready. The Hippogriff sultan takes Spyro under his wing as his next mentor.
Spyro's next step is to learn filet, and the element of wind.
Many of the Hippogriff children that Spyro befriended were all busy practicing their fliet. Spyro was introduced to his instructor, soon he was learning how to fly properly and how to use the wind breath as an advantage and to increase his speed. A few years have passed and Spyro is now 10 years old meaning his kanchi barely fit him now, but now after years of training he finally mastered the wind element.
When Spyro's next step was complete, the sultan knew his next training was beginning so he took off with Spyro following behind him and both flyers took a long journey west and into a wide open savannah filled with all kinds of animals. When they arrived, it was a small tribe of people that lived a more primitive lifestyle but were happy with their culture and customs. The sultan landed near the main entrance and introduced the dragonet to the tribe's chief who will be his next mentor.
The sultan and chief greeted each other with a big hug as if they were best friends who haven't seen each other in a long time. The chief bowed to the prince and the dragonet bowed back. His next element to learn was that of the Earth, he was also learning different fighting styles that were inspired by the animals that live nearby.
Later Spyro is learning the art of defense to defend himself with a stick in stick fighting. The chief strikes to make the dragonet block but then makes a sweep with his staff that trips the dragonet which causes him to fall on his back. After a couple of repeats, Spyro figures out the pattern and actually uses his wings as a shield first then jumps to dodge the low sweep to counter with a strike, which surprised the chief but he quickly blocked it. Both teacher and student bowed as the dragonet was ready for his next step.
Later the dragonet follows the chief across the desert until they come across another civilization. It was a society with huge pyramids in the distance and many architectures that look very complex and artistic to look at which impressed Spyro. The dragonet learns the language and the art of math and reading. But it didn't last long as it transitioned up the pillars with symbols that then changed into the pillars from another land that the dragonet is training in.
The land is a valley with many stone architecture and even an ancient colosseum. Inside the Colosseum is Spyro who is now in his teen years learning the art of wrestling and grappling with a Yak who were all his traineis.
However, a muscular yak, who is Spyro's instructor, calls out the match which surprised the other yaks in the arena. The instructor towers over the young dragon as he puts him in a headlock for a demonstration. Suddenly, the dragon grabs his instructor by the neck... and JUDO THROWS HIM OVER HIS SHOULDER. Even though many students can do that, it's still awesome nonetheless. That instructor was at least as big as an ursa compared to the dragon.
All the other yaks cheered at their teammate and friend. The setting now changed with the dragon riding a horse through a forest until he was ambushed by bandits and archers which one fires an arrow at him, but, with impressive reflexes, he catches the arrow. The dragon was wearing a hood to hide his identity but he revealed his face and symbol to the archers who were expecting his next lesson. The archer was none other than robin hood.
The dragon is taught in archery. Later Spyro and Robin Hood were practicing their archery, where Robin Hood easily hits his arrow in the center, via bullseye and even repeats that with the arrows hitting the back which splits them.
The Dragon now aims but he hears the sounds of coins inside of a shaking bag which were collected by the sheriff through taxes. He aimed his bow the other way around and managed to score a direct hit to the bag of gold and lodged it to a tree. The sheriff took off to the castle in fear which made the two laugh. Robin Hood was impressed with his skill.
Spyro is now on a viking ship and keeping the ship away from the jagged rocks.
Spyro is now in another land where he learns to throw axes. His instructor manages to land a direct hit on a Matryoshka doll which splits open and shows another doll inside. Spyro then throws his axe and also lands a hit which shows another doll inside which showed a surprised expression.
Then Spyro is practicing to throw spears while he's in the air with a tribe of people who are experts in flying and their weapons they wield with.
Finally, he's training with the monks in the ways of the martial arts. The training of the monks is intense and hard. The monks practice by punching their fists in burning hot sand and others train by hanging upside down and gathering water from a bucket with a cup and putting the water in another bucket up on top by doing upside down crunches. Spyro is now a young adult as he practices blocking spears, fighting hand to hand on tall, narrow platforms and mastering sword skills.
Soon, he was ready.
After many years of wandering the world and learning all the known arts of every warrior, the prince is no longer a dragonet, but now a skilled and honorable warrior of a dragon who is ready to avenge his father and people. He sailed to a snowy mountain where the temple lies ahead. He wanders in but the residents mistake him for an intruder and prepare to fight but the warrior reveals in his clawed hand is the symbol they all recognize. The cloth with the symbol gently blows in the wind towards an old dragoness who catches it. The dragoness approaches the dragon who slides his hood off to reveal his face. The old dragoness looked surprised and then takes her hood off… to reveal the face of Spyros mother.
Spyro felt sadness but also joy, sadness for he hasn't seen his mother in many years, and joy now to see her again happy and the first thing he does is hug her.
His mother looks at her son and knows he's ready. The statue's hands open up and reveal the sword and even some armor for Spyro's size. The dragon bows in respect for the gift he has achieved. His mother hands him his weapon and clothing. As Spyro picks up the sacred longsword and shows a determined look in his eyes. Later he is now dressed in the Light armor and wielding his father's blade. It's time to face the darkness.
It fades in on a tall wooden totem that looks like Malefor. Inside a cavern was a mining operation. It is soon shown that the workers are the Prince's people are turned into slaves and doing the exhausting labor. Some were pulling and making the wooden statues while others were mining for the jewels embedded in the cavern walls. All the slaves are ordered by what appears to be Malefor's minions whipping them to work. One of slaves looks familiar as he was doing the task to put the wooden totem of Malefor in place.
The Dragon is a frail and old, his wings were shackled in place and his arms were handcuffed to keep him in line, he might be old but he's doing one of the hardest tasks in the slavery and he gets no respect.
The minion cracks his whip, commanding the old dragon to stop. Captain: "BREAK!"
The Old dragon finally felt relieved. He fell to his clawed hands and knees and started catching his breath. One of the enslaved people gathered water in a small bowl and carried it over to him.
"Here's some water, my King." Said the cheetah woman, revealing that the old dragon is the dragon king. Before the dragon king could get a drink, the minion cracked his whip really close at the bowl which fell to the floor and spilled across the floor.
"None for HIM!" Said the minion, showing just how cruel he and Malefor are.
"I'm sorry my King." She said out of fear, she soon runs away with the bowl of water.
However, the dragon king is still eager to get a drink as he slowly cups the puddle into his clawed hands. "Water…Water…Water…" Said the dragon king weakly.
When the minion saw this he was furious, "I SAID NO WATER!" he shouted. The minion thrusts his whip forward to strike the dragon king... but it never hits its mark as if something caught it. "HUH!?"
It turns out a clawed hand has caught it and yanked the minion a good distance away as he landed on his back with a loud "Thud".
The dragon king looked at the figure and splashed the water in his face with tears in his eyes as hope had finally arrived. "He has returned."
The minion who attempted to whip the dragon king gets back to his feet while all the other minions gather around him and stare at their foe. Malefor minion, "Insubordinate fool! No one attacks Malefor's minions! Kill Him!"
The figure draws his sword as the minions attack with their clawed hands instead of their whips. They all lunge at the figure but he manages to block them which creates a loud clashing of steel that gets all the other people's attention as they finally see hope has arrived. Once the figure manages to block all the slashes, he then counters and easily slices through the minions as if they were made of ribbons. All the minions were cut in half, and surprisingly, they dissolved once they were dead.

After all the minions were killed, the figure strikes the cuffs on the dragon king's wrist . The old king looked up at the figure with tears of joy that their hope had finally arrived.
"My son. My little Spyro."
It was revealed to be the lost dragon prince, the one who was trained for years to face the ultimate evil, Spyro the dragon. Spyro has grown over the past 16 years, his wing spam has increased to a proper length to give him flight, he now dons a light armor to cover his chest and back, along with some arm bracers to protect his arms from getting chopped off, his armor has some gold lines going from the chest to the back, he also has a purple bandana on his neck, a gift from the monks, he had a shift for the sword strapped on his back to give himself some room to move. He is able to stand on his back legs but he rather chooses to walk on all fours.
After he freed the other slaves he helped his father to his feet, and spoke for the first time."What has happened to our land Father?" He asked the old king.
The dragon king puts his hand underneath his son's chin to comfort his son of his state. "My son, it has been many years since that fateful day that Malefor returned from his imprisonment." The dragon king told his son.
The dragon king turns around and remembers what happened all these years. While he speaks Spyro closed his eyes as if to see what has happened to the enslaved all these years. "Enslaved, we have become, to unearth the riches of the land so that Malefor can strengthen his powers and begin to take over the world."
With that one last part emphasized, Spyro saw Malefor's evil smile and his evil laugh that echoed across Spyro's mind. With that name mentioned Spyro showed a face of determination.
"Do not worry, Father. For with the power of this sword, I will vanquish Malefor sending him back into the pit of hate from which he came." He spoke in confidence, but the Dragon King looked more displeased than confident.
Dragon king: *swatted the sword out of his son's hands* "NO!"
The sword went into the ground blade first. Spyro bowed as if to apologize. After he knocks it out the dragon king pulls the sword from the ground and he decides to give his son a lesson. "I once thought like you. But the sword is only a tool. What power does it have compared to the hands that wield it? Evil is clever, and deception is its most powerful weapon. Evil is clever, and deception is its most powerful weapon." He tells his son as he hands him the sword, as he sheaths it.
Spyro runs out the cave and takes flit to Malefors fortress, for which he has longed trained for. "I will not fail you Father!" Those were Spyro's last words to his father and the freed slaves before he disappeared from their sight. The dragon king muttered one thing in hopes his son would be aware of. "Be wary my son, for evil finds a way."
(2 hours later)
A few hours later Spyro arrived at Malefor's castle which is set in a barren wasteland with no signs of life. Heavy fog and mist blankets the area and Malefor's castle, which has the spiky horns like him, is seen in the distance.
Spyro lands near the fog and approaches but a bunch of ghoulish demons appear and swoop over him, even though they would give anyone else nightmares and PTSD Spyro remained calm. "The mist is full of demons, Malefor is near."
Spyro draws his sword and leaps into the mist. He avoids the demons while gliding on rocky narrow platforms across a wide open gap that leads to a long fall. Once he reached and entered Malefor's castle, he made his announcement.
"MAALEFFFFFOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"
Spyro's call echoed throughout Malefor's domain which had a very strange and unique appearance. The walls and platforms looked like flames that froze into a solid form in colors of red, orange, black and mixes of them in between.
It was all quiet and Malefro was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, everything began to shake and Spyro looked down to the bottomless pit below. In a split second, a mass of darkness shot out of the pit like flames out of the inferno. Spyro looked up and came face to face with the foe he will destroy who towered at least over a hundred feet high.
Malefor slowly lowered himself to Spyro's level and spoke in a voice that would send chills down a bone. "Who dares to summon the master of Darkness? The deliver of Chaos? The destroyer of worlds? MALEFOR?"
With no fear Spyro spoke these next words with confidence "I am the lost son of the land that you have pillaged. I am here to reclaim it. *Draws his sword* For my people. For my father. For my birthright."
The sword's reflection shows Malefor as he cakels and Spyro jumps towards Malefor as he underestimates him. "HA-HA! Fool! No mortal can hurt the great Malefor!" However, Spyro slices Malefor's side which cuts open a wound and he actually felt that. "NYAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
When Spyro landed Malefor took a closer look at the sword and smelled Spyro's royal blood, "That sword. I remember that blade. I recognize your blood. You are the son of the fool who imprisoned me all those many years ago. No matter! Neither he nor the sword had the power to slay me forever and neither do YOU."
With that the fight begins ,Malefor suddenly shifts into a different form which looked like a gorilla but retained most of his traits such as his facial characteristics and horns.
Malefor falls towards Spyro who jumps out of the way as Malefor's foot crushes the platform the purple dragon used to stand on. Malefor goes on the offensive by swiping his sharp claws and smashing with his fists but Spyro is quicker and manages to avoid Malefor's attacks. The dark master thrusts a fist forward and Spyro jumps over it... big mistake as that left Spyro open and Malefor scraped him across the back with his other claw. Jack shouted in pain ,but it seems like the scratch only infuriated Spyro. Malefor throws another fist but Spyro swipes his sword which chopped it clean off. Malefor falls and hits the wall and splatters into a puddle. The puddle reformed and took on the form of a scorpion as it crawled up the wall and faced Spyro again.
But Spyro spoke with confidence to his long awaited rival,"No matter what form you take Malefor, you will NEVER defeat the side of righteousness."
Malefor frowned and attacked with his claws and tail. Spyro dodges the claws and blocks the tail stinger with his sword but was slowly getting cornered. Spyro ducked a strike but the tail got lodged like a hook on one of the solid flames like a fish hook to a rock. Spyro wasted no time and cuts off the tail and just to add insult to injury he breathed his ice breath on Malefors legs and pincers and used his tail blade to shatter them, sending Malefor back. Malefor becomes a swirling ball of darkness and falls back into the pit below. Spyro waits in tension as he waits for Malefor to make his move.
'Come on you demon, show yourself.' Spyro's thought as he was waiting for his rival. suddenly a tentacle shoots out and latches out. Then another and more until Malefor looks like some kind of octopus-like creature using the platforms to support it.
The tentacles lash out but Spyro dodges them and keeps cutting them like ribbons.
'SLASH'
'SLASH'
'SLASH'
'SLASH'
'SLASH'
Then one of the tentacles grabs his leg and hoists him up to devour him but Spyro gets it and cuts three more on the way down. He then uses Malefor's body as a platform and gets on the upper level of the tower.
Malefor then slingshots himself up and shapeshifts into a ram-like creature and charges forward. When Malefor was charging at Spyro the world felt as if everything slowed down with Spyro jumping to avoid Malefor ramming the platform that was demolished. Spyro then slashes him in half but two halfs form together and takes the form of a winged demon.
When Spyro landed on a nearby platform he sees this as a moment to end Malefor once and for all, he starts to chant a prayer that will end this fight. "Now demon, with the blessing of righteousness and the power of the sacred blade, I cast thee back to the vile pit from whence you came."
As Malefor swoops down, Spyro throws his sword upward as everything slows down seeing both demon and blade heading towards each other. Then... the sword impales Malefor for a moment... then he explodes and gets absorbed into the sword.
The sword then fell back in Spyro's hand and he slammed it to the ground and released Malefor who slowly took back into his normal form but was beaten and exhausted as he weakly groaned from taking a lot of damage. Spyro slowly lifted his sword to end this once and for all. Malefor looks angry after losing but he's not finished.
'I will not be undenied, not by this foolish dragon!' He then spoke to the young dragon as he prepared for the final strike, "You might have beaten me now, but I will destroy you in the future."
Spyro was confused with what Malefor had just told him but he replies with confidence that this is the end, "There is no future for you Malefor."
"I DISAGREE"
Suddenly he shoots a bunch of white rings of energy out of his mouth that float above Spyro.
"What trickery is this!?" Spyro spoke with alarm. The rings form around him as he tries to slash them but to no avail as a column of light opens under him and he falls in it.
"MALFO-" And with that the light disappears, as Spyro was nowhere to be seen, leaving Malefor free to continue his tyranny, as he slowly gets back up he spoke as if Spyro was still there.
"Do not worry, Dragon, you will see me again."
It is now shown that Spyro is being hurled through the portal.
"But next time you will not be so fortunate"
Now Spyro is screaming what sounds to be agony as it looks like he's being stretched by the intense power of the vortex he's falling through. Little did he know he was being sent to another time.
TO BE CONTINUED…..
OMG, I have been wanting to write this story for a long time
Can anyone guess on who the dragon king is, and if anyone is wondering on how to get a full image of Spyro and Malefor go the Deviantart and look up Jedijade86, this is my account that has two images of these two rivals.
Thank you to everyone for reading the first chapter of this series, and the next chapter will have a few surprise cameos and a few other things to add to the story.
P.S. this took me a few days to write and edit.
