There was a lot Leslie Shay did not know. Shay did not know if Chief Boden's wedding would work. Shay did not know if the shift would be a good one or if she would be triaging kids from a school bus hit by a speeding truck. If she can possibly find a girl that would want to be with her and not rob her and Kelly. There were a LOT of things Leslie Shay did not know.
Hell, Shay did not know if she and Kelly would both be breathing in 24 hours to go back home…
And judging by "Shay, we need to go!" she didn't know how late in the morning it was. Shay pushed aside her breakfast. There would be breakfast at the house anyway, and finished her coffee.
Because there was one thing Shay DID know.
Shay knew it from the very first shift back at her first house, but she did learn it better at 51.
No matter what may come, Chicago was always better off for having house 51 and for having Leslie Shay in it. It may not be much.
But it was enough.
Shay got her jacket and left for work…
