Zoom! A purple blur zipped through a hedge maze that sat on top of a tall red spiraling rock pillar. Next to the maze was a fancy modern styled mansion. Below it was many other houses on their own pillars that made up the rest of the town of Runnerville.

Whoosh! Bang!

The purple blur crashed right into a hedge wall.

"Wowzers! "I've got to try that again!," a purple teenage road runner said, dusting himself off before setting his sights on the desert below him.

It was a perfect place for him to try out his new powers.

Whoosh! He took off down the spiral stairs and sped into the desert below.

A blonde road runner was looking for him in the mansion above.

"Have you seen Rev Dear?" She asked a larger, dark purple roadrunner.

"No, but he couldn't have gone far. He's still got to get his casts off today. " He replied to his wife.

"Looks like he's already got them off." A young teenage road runner said, coming into the room holding up a pair of hollow casts.

"Look at that, Harriet! Our boy is already up and about, and it's only been a week. " "Ralph said proudly."

"Whoo hoo!" Rev yelled as he zoomed across the hot sand below the town.

"Oh yeah! They'll never call me slow poke ever again! " He said, throwing his hands in the air.

"No one can stop me! Oh, speaking of stopping' how do I stop?" Rev looked at his rapidly moving legs.

"Mmm, all I got to do is slow down... Ahh ugh! That's not happening. Rev yelled, nearly tripping over his own feet when he tried to.

He reached out and grabbed the next object he sped by in hopes of it stopping him.

'OW!' OW OW OW!' Rev scrambled desperately, shaking his hand, trying to get the cactus off.

While he was preoccupied with that, he didn't notice he was about to run into a bed of small flowering cacti. It was very unpleasant being he wasn't wearing any shoes. The spikey bed didn't stop the road runner, though, and neither did several other objects he had the misfortune of running into.

"Got to go fast? I don't want to go fast! I just wanna stop! " Rev cried as his legs sped more and more out of control.

"Oo, I've got an idea!" Rev clapped his wings when he saw an old-fashioned clothesline.

Rev dashed up and grabbed the line, ripping it from its pools with his incredible speed."Ow ow! Rope burn! " He said juggling the hot line.

"Time to channel my inner cowboy."

He tossed the rope like a lasso at a passing pillar. The heavy pulley caught hold.

"Yes! It worked! Rev cheered.

PING! The rope went when it reached its length.

Woo! It worked. Wait, wait I'm still running. "

Zoom whoosh! He found himself running circles around the rock like some sort of carousel.

Bunk! Rev had gotten himself tied up to the red pillar.

"Well, at least I stopped." "He said with relief. With his sharp beak, he snipped himself free of the ropes. There were certain advantages to being a roadrunner.

Rev shook off the dust and started removing the needles from his hands and feet. Despite the advents of his run, he was still thrilled about his new ability. He was already racking his brain for a superhero name for himself. He was having trouble though as all speed-related names seemed to have been be taken.

He sat on the ground as he worked to rid himself of the painful pokers, he looked around to get his bearings.

The sky was orange with thick purple clouds covering the horizon, making Acmetropolis totally invisible as well as the mountains and desert hills.

Rev watched the strange clouds for a while deep in thought. Of course not, without muttering them to himself.

Something in the cloud caught his eye. Something huge. Rev leaped to his feet, startled by the thing. The thing drifted back behind the clouds, hiding from the roadrunner's view.

"What in Acme was that?" He began, but something else caught his eye.

"Whoa, Poppa's factory." Wow, I went further than I thought." Rev said, gazing up at a giant building.

The place was quiet today as Ralph Runner Rev's father had employed his workers in the cleanup efforts in the city.

Rev looked at it in awe curious to see the inside of the building. He had never been allowed inside before. His father always told him he'd have to earn it.

Oh well, a small peak wouldn't hurt. No no no."

He turned himself away from the factory. "But no one would have to know. He wouldn't be that mad anyway. It'll be just a quick peak." Rev turned back and walked toward it. He was careful not to run as he wasn't ready to be kidnapped by his own feet again. He stopped when he got near the windows.

"What are you doing? Pop trusts me." Rev said backing down.

CRASH!

Rev jumped back with a shot. The noise had come from inside. But no one was supposed to be in there.

"An intruder." He whispered covering his face as he ducked down out of sight.

"I got to tell father."

Rev was about to get up and run back home for him.

"What am I doing I've got superpowers. I can handle this." He bravely stood up.

Rev tested the door to see if it was locked, it was. He would have to find another way in. The intruder did after all. Rev looked around for a moment.

"Ah, here we are."

He pulled out a key from under a false invoice speaker. He popped it into the keyhole which brought out a digital keypad to put the passcode in.

Now Rev knew his father well enough that he could probably guess what it was but he wasn't about to test that. The roadrunner knew other ways of getting in. He had been learning to code for the past three years and happened to know just the back door to use.

Within moments the door unlocked.

"Alright!... I'm going to have to talk to Pops about his security on this thing...without telling him I was here... somehow."

Rev took a deep breath and pushed the heavy door open a crack. He nervously peeked inside. He heard voices and pulled his head out terrified. He sat there by the door unable to move when he noticed something familiar about what he was hearing. He carefully looked back in. He saw a TV going at the far end of the long packing line.

"Few! It's just a TV."

He got up no longer afraid. He looked at the TV thoughtfully. "Pops really doesn't like his power being wasted. I'd better go turn it off for him."

He said going inside.

"And it won't hurt if I take a little look around while I'm here." He giggled mischievously.

On the large curved screen, a news program was reporting on the aftermath of the meteorite strike. Rev was sick of hearing the news. His parents had been watching it for the past week none stop and it was going to drive him mad. He was about to turn that sucker off when he heard a name he knew.

Tech E Coyote.

He was a genius inventor and engineer. Rev greatly admired him and was always thrilled whenever the news or other media reported on whatever amazing things he was doing. However, Rev was as far away as one could get from thrilled with this latest report of the man.

"It has been confirmed that the world has lost yet another brilliant mind in last week's horrid meteorite strike. Tech E Coyote. No more can we look forward to his awe-inspiring inventions. We now bring you to an interview with his university colleague who witnessed the young inventor being vaporized into nothingness right before his eyes. The following images may be too graphic for some viewers." The news anchor reported.

Rev turned the TV off and sank to the floor in shock. Before the meteorite hit Rev had just earned a seat at a lecture at Acme University where Tech was promised to attend and share tips with aspiring inventors and engineers. Something he hardly ever did. Now the news was saying he was...gone.

CRASH!

Rev just about jumped out of his skin. Something had been knocked over. Meaning something was inside... with him.
