A/N: This idea came to me whilst talking with my friends. Someone mentioned that elves sleep with their eyes open and can run and sleep at the same time, and the image just popped into my head. It's kinda short, but hey, it was just an image. And to all devoted Legolas fans: don't hit me. I guess as I forgot to put Gandalf in, this is after Moria … Hmm. Didn't even think about that before now.
Disclaimer: Idea is mine, The Lord of the Rings belongs to Tolkien.
Story: The Sleeping Patterns of Elves
The Fellowship were running.
They had been running for who knows how long, in who knows what direction, they could have been walking, but they were running anyway.
It should have been Legolas's keen eyesight which first picked out the lack of solid ground up ahead, but it wasn't. Aragorn peered into the approaching dusk, and spotted the tell-tale signs of a cliff. Namely, the fact that land stopped and air continued where the land wasn't.
"Cliff up ahead!" he called, and four hobbits, two men and one dwarf slowed to a halt.
One elf kept running.
"Legolas, I said there's a cliff!"
One elf kept running.
"Um, Legolas? Legolas?"
One elf kept running.
The hobbits began to yell at the elf, to warn him of the imminent danger.
One elf kept running.
Gimli shouted, waving his hands.
One elf kept running.
Aragorn and Boromir yelled and shouted, knowing that from this distance, not one of them could possibly hope to catch up in time to wake the sleeping elf and save him from certain doom.
And one elf kept running.
"Legolas! Le… Oh dear."
A/N: Okay, I tried with the picture, but it wouldn't work. Sorry. But it was really funny, trust me.
