Elrond Halfelven
You are so wise
And so old
You haven't lost touch
With the world
Though Ents may be gone
And humans the rulers
You alone remain
Alone among the elves
You, in your Last Homely House
Last of the elves
To remain
In Middle Earth
Your children have gone
To the Grey Havens
Your friends have all died
Or reincarnated
As evil in the shape of good
You have stayed,
Unchanged in the moody face of Time
Alone
So alone
No longer are heard
Elves making merry
In this old valley
The world all around
Has changed so, so much
No longer is Sauron
The holder of evil
No, it is now Men
A once good race
Now rotten
And you watch this
With an unchanged face
The same face
That saw Bilbo Baggins
On his journey
To defeat Smaug, the dread dragon
The same face
That saw the Fellowship
Start its quest
To destroy the One Ring
And defeat Sauron.
You are timeless
You are ageless
Many you have known
Many more you will know
They are but flowers
Blooming and withering
Within days
Timelessness
Agelessness
Hello, to you,
Means farewell
And farewell I must say now
Námarië, Elrond.
Námarië.
