I.
Once Ron saw her standing
barefoot in the long
green grass glowing
like she had electric freckles.
She smiled and closed her eyes and shivered
stretching her arms out like a dove
and the fireflies all took flight
and for a moment
Ron could have sworn
she was flying with them
glimmering yellowgreen and attracting
him to her.
II.
When Ginny and Ron splashed
about in puddles
ankle deep and cool-warm
after a gray morning of rain,
an extra-big splash got her
best yellow sundress
dirty dirty dirty.
She choked on tears
but Ron said Look, Gin, wait.
and peeled it off her till she stood clad only in
soft soggy see-through
underthings.
Then he shed his shirt and
grinning
they rolled in the mud that squished between them
until they were both aching inside
and didn't know why.
III.
One sunny war day Ron
was on his back bleeding from a massive
wound to his heart.
Ginny, wearing all white,
cradled his head in her lap
and he deeply breathed her in
like healing vapours.
Nurse, he said, will I live?
Dear brave soldier, don't talk,
she replied,
save your strength for this kiss.
And she resurrected him
with a brief peck flashy as lightning
which stuck him deep like thunder
and there they remained on the battlefield
till Mum called them in for lunch.
