Just an idea that popped up in my head.

This take place before Tim get on the team and he may be in it later. And this may not follow the timeline too much.

And a warning there will be violence in this chapter.

This will not be a Walter/Paige sorry.

Chapter 1

It was a normal Friday at the Scorpion garage, the case the team had been working on was finished and to celebrate it, Paige had decided to have a barbecue on the roof, the rest of the team agree that it would be a great way to start the weekend.

Toby was tasked with getting the barbecue fired up, Happy was working on her bike but would later drive and get the drinks, Cabe and Sly was going to make the side dishes as soon as Walter got the food from the store as he had a few errands to run anyway and Paige was going to pick Ralph up from school and bring him back to the garage.

Walter was walking from the hardware store when someone dragged him into an alley, pushed him up against the hard brick wall and pushed something hard against his back.

"What are you doing," Walter said just a bit afraid

The person who stood behind him didn't say a word instead the metal baseball bate that the person held connected with Walter's side sending the genius flying further into the dark alley, a scream of pain escaped his lips, he tried to get up but a heavy foot pushed him down into the dusty ground making him cough as the dry dirt made its way into his mouth and nose, he vaguely heard a whistle.

Running feet could be heard coming closer and for a brief moment Walter felt hope grow in his chest but that hope was sadly dashed quickly when the feet stop and a swift kick landed on his unhurt side just where his lower ribs were and a crack could be heard and the searing pain from what Walter could only hope was just a cracked and not broken rib spread throughout his body and pain filled groan slipped from him, which only seemed to make his attackers laugh more, another attacker then stepped on his left ankle making him wince in pain which was once again followed by laughter.

A hand grabbed Walter's hair and pulled his head painfully up so that he could see one of the attacker dress in black with a motorbike helmet to hide the face. The helmet wearing person let Walter's head drop down again and kicked him in the nose, blood started to pour out of the now broken nose, pain exploded in Walter's head and strangle cry could be heard from the young genius.

Fear started to grow in Walter, he and the rest of the team had read about the multiple attacks that had happened the last couple of weeks, a small gang had started to attack random people and beat them to death. He had to get away or he would die.

This is not happening, Walter thought to himself and tried to break free and escape but he had barely got up from the ground when a hard steel toed foot smashed into his stomach making him gag and fight not to throw up.

The metal bate then made its way down and smashed into Walter's inside of his knee making it harder for him to escape.

At the garage.

"Where can Walter be?" Cabe asked looking at his clock it had been nearly an hour since the young genius had gone to get the food and it took no more than half that time normally, a bit worry started to grow in his gut something was wrong he could nearly taste it.

"Oh he was going to buy some supplies to something he has been working on," Sly said

Cabe was still not sure but he would give the boy a bit more time before he called and check up on him, unknown to them Walter's phone lied crushed on the ground in an alley.

The alley.

PAIN!

That was the only thing that ran through Walter's mind over and over again, he had never felt this much pain before and he only wished that it would stop and soon as he didn't know how long he could stand it.

His dark curly hair was wet both from blood and from sweat, his whole body was just one big painful thing.

The attackers stopped suddenly and listened to something and faintly you could hear sirens that come closer, this made the attackers panic and with one last kick to Walter's head sending him in to the darkness that was unconsciousness.

Sadly the sirens was not heading toward Walter, so there he lay alone bleeding out.

The Garage

Now everyone was starting to grow worry it had been nearly two hours since Walter left to pick up food and other thing, they had all been calling him but nothing absolutely nothing and even Sly couldn't find him on satellite.

"I will take my car and go looking for him," Cabe said

"I will come too," Paige said "Sly look after Ralph for me."

Sly just nodded as he and Ralph was already playing some game to help with the worry about their friend.

Cabe and Paige drove along the streets looking for Walter they first went to the store and ask there and no Walter had not been in, the next stop was the hardware store but they never got there as they were stop a few street from the store something had happened an ambulance and police cars stood blocking the street.

Cabe and Paige looked at each other both thinking that it couldn't be Walter right?

Cabe called over one of the policemen.

"Hello am Agent Cabe Gallo Homeland," he said showing his badge "What happened?"

The young police man looked at the badge and nodded.

"A man has been attacked," he said "He was found in a really bad state, they are talking him to the hospital now."

Cabe and Paige looked at each other and felt dread filling them.

"I will try his phone one more time," Paige said and dialled Walter's number but nothing. "Nothing."

"Hey kid!" He called to the young police man "Do you know who it is?"

"No sir," the police man said "I haven't seen him myself, but I think I heard something about him being dark, sorry sir."

The police man was then called away.

"Maybe his phone is just dead and he… I don't know talking with someone?" Cabe said "Let's go back and see if he is back."

They watch as the ambulance race away with blue light and sirens at its fullest, hoping that it was not Walter lying in that racing ambulance fighting for his life, that he would be back at the garage when they return annoyed about something or another.

But deep down something was telling them that something was wrong very wrong.

The Garage

Sly and Ralph was still playing their game none of them really focused on it as the worry had grown more and more, and it didn't get any better when Paige and Cabe returned without Walter.

Toby who had just walked down from the roof when the duo and not trio come inside took one look at them.

"You didn't find him?" he ask even when he know that answer.

Paige just shake her head in a silence no.

"Well he will come back," Happy said trying to sound positive even if she didn't feel like it. "And when he do I will kill him."

"Mom am worry," Ralph said softly he had abandoned his game with Sly "Where can he be, what if something horrible has happened to him."

"I know Sweetie," Paige said and hugged her son tightly trying not to think of the racing ambulance "But it Walter we are talking about he will be fine, and I am sure he will soon waltz in here asking why we are just doing nothing. He did say he had a few errands to run maybe his phone died and he didn't notice and he is on his way back right now."

"Well I am hungry," Happy said "So what about I fetch the drinks and the food and if genius boy isn't back by the time I am back we can start I don't know call the hospital."

But she had barely made it to the car when Cabe's phone rang, making everyone jump.

"See that must be Walt now," Toby said relived

"Hello," Cabe said "yes this is him, yes I know where that is, and yes we can be there in ten minutes, thanks."

Cabe had under the short call grow paler and paler, now he looked like he was about to faint.

"I…um… know were Walt is," he said in a whisper

"Where?" Paige asked worried

"No time to dally," he said "Everyone into the car!"

They all rushed to the car and drove off in neck breaking speed.

"What has happened?" Paige asked. "Why did they call you?"

"I am Walter's emergency contact," Cabe told her as he took a turn that nearly made the car drive on two wheels. "That was the hospital, the man that was attacked it was Walt."

A sob escaped Paige lips and the others in the car looked at her, she quickly told them about the blocked of street and what the young policeman had said.

"Of course it had to be Walt!" Toby said

"Mom is Walter going to die?" Ralph asked scared.

"I don't know," she said softly "We will have to see what the doctor says."

"Walt can't die," Sly said with tears in his eyes.

"Keep it together son," Cabe said and stopped at the Hospital "We are here now and remember Walt is a fighter he will not give up easy."

The team rushed in and up to the nurse at the information desk.

"Hello I am Cabe Gallo," Cabe said "I am the emergency contact to Walter Seamus O'Brien where is he?"

The nurse type away on her computer trying to ignore the impatient stares she got from the group of people in front of her.

"Yes he is at the moment in operation theatre three," she said "you can sit down over there and I will have someone come and talk to you soon."

The Scorpion team walked over to where the nurse had pointed and sat down on the uncomfortable chairs that always were at hospital.

They sat in silence for a few minutes before Toby grow restless and went up to the nurse again.

"Hello again," he said "I am a doctor so if I could take a look at my friends medical and I may be able to help him."

The nurse just ignored him and told him that a doctor would come and tell them as soon as it was possible, Toby tried to explain but was meet with the same answer Cabe called him back and told him that he would try but was once again told no and that the best of the best was working on their friend.

"A Benji Timber is the operating doctor," Cabe said when he sat down again.

Toby nodded he had read about this doctor he was good one of the best.

They sat and waited for three hours before a doctor come out.

"Walter O'Brien's family?" the doctor asked and looked at them

Cabe nodded and stood up.

"What the news doc?" he asked with a voice filled with worry.

"Hello, I am Doctor Benji Timber," the doctor "Walter was in a bad way when he come in, we nearly lost him at least once, but he pulled through and we hope he will soon wake up."

"Can we see him?" Paige asked

Doctor Timber nodded and showed that they were to follow him.

"I must warn you," he said before he let them in to the room of Walter "He was beat badly."

The team walked slowly in to the clean hospital room where in a bed a very bruised and pale Walter was lying still, one arm in a cast and one leg with metal sticking out and screws, his head was clean shaved and wrapped up in bandage with light red splotched on it, his hospital gown was open showing more white bandage around his chest and a long plaster, a tube was going down his throat helping him breath, a drip was dropping something that was going into his arm.

Paige gasped at the sight of her friend.

Ralph was shocked at the sight of Walter looking so vulnerable in the bed.

Cabe walked slowly over to the chair that stood beside the bed and sat down in it and grabbed Walter's hand.

"Hello son," he said softly "We are all here."

"I think I will go and talk to Megan," Sly said looking a bit pale and scared "Tell her about this, she may have heard about it on the news."

"I will talk to doctor Timber," Toby said and followed Sly out of the room, Happy was the next to leave saying that she was going to fix some food for them

Left was Paige, Ralph and Cabe watching the young man in the bed sleeping.

"Mom is Walter going to be okay?" Ask the young boy

Paige didn't know what to tell her son.

"I hope so," she said and wrapped her arms around her son hugging him "we will ask Toby when he comes back. The doctor seemed hopeful."

"He is a tough boy," Cabe said "He will be okay, I believe that, he is too smart to give up."

Paige went out and fetch two more chair and sat down beside Cabe, they just sat there watching Walter and listen to the beep from all the machines that was helping him.

Ralph soon grow bored and ask for his mom's phone so that he could play a game even if his heart wasn't in it.

Happy returned with arms filled of food and drinks.

"I went to the local shop as the food here looked gross," She said and gave each person in the room bare Walter a bag with food and drink.

They eat in silence only the sound of eating and drinking could be heard and the beeping from Walter.

Toby return took his bag and sat down beside Happy on the floor.

"Well it seemed our leader had a guardian angel today," He said "And he is not out of the woods just yet, but he has good chances."

A nurse looked in on them and told the team that visiting hours was soon over and only one could stay the night.

"I will stay," Cabe said in a voice that left no room for argument

But just as they were to leave Walter started to convulse and the beeping become fast and louder, a gurgle come from Walter and blood started to dribble down his chin.

Toby jumped up and smashed the call button, soon was the room filled with nurses and doctors, the team was shepherd out to the waiting room and could just watch as their friend was wheeled out and away not knowing if they would see him alive again.

The only thing they could do was to wait and hope for the best.

I also have a good reason to not have this as a Walter/Paige story.
