Mirabel was deeply crying when it happened. We know what is suppose to happen, the cracks are suppose to happen. Mirabel's grief makes the hidden cracks finally visible to someone.
But her grief didn't hit its peak due to the interruption.
A bang echoed through Casita and Mirabel turned into to see a blonde woman push a girl in a girl ruana out one of the doors. She watched them struggle for a second before the blonde woman slammed the girl's head against the wall and then pushed her over the railing.
Mirabel screamed in shock, she saw Casita try to move the couch over to catch her but it was a bit to slow and the girl hit the ground with a thud anyway.
Mirabel ran over to the girl and looked her over, blood was dripping from a large wound on her forehead. Her glasses were shattered and now glass was in her face. Her leg was bent at the wrong angle, and she was holding onto her ribs groaning.
"It will be okay, I'll get my mom, you'll be fine," Mirabel assured the girl worried.
"You?!"
Mirabel looked up at the blonde woman as she looked at Mirabel in, almost disgust, as she saw her with the girl.
"You lying little…." The woman glared at the girl, "you took me too far."
"Casita! Get her out!" Mirabel ordered not wanting the violent woman anywhere near her family.
Casita moved the tiles, throwing the woman out of the house with much protest.
The woman screamed a lot in a language she wasn't familiar with but caught the final words as she was locked out, "I will get what I want! One way or another!"
Mirabel didn't care as she looked down at the girl and her pain filled eyes, "Hang on, I'll get Mama okay?"
Before the girl could comment Mirabel ran up stairs and busted into Antonio's party calling out, "Mama! Mama! Help!"
That cut the party off as everyone stared at Mirabel in confusion, or annoyance in Isabela's case.
"Mira? What-"Julieta started to ask confused but was cut off.
"A girl-she's hurt bad!"
That was all Julieta needed to hear as she grabbed an arepa from the table and followed Mirabel out of the room. She gasped as she saw the girl and immediately leaned down to try to get her eat some of the food and check on her.
"What happened here?!" Abuela demanded to know, she almost glaring at Mirabel as if this was her fault.
"I'm not sure," Mirabel tried to explain, "I was just sitting out her when I heard a noise and looked up" she pointed to the railing, "And this blonde women and this girl came out of the room and the woman threw the girl down here! Casita tried to save her but wasn't fast enough. Casita threw the woman out after that but the girl was so hurt…."
Mirabel trailed off as she noticed Abuela wasn't listening to her anymore. She was focused on something above them, Mirabel followed her gaze and gasped as she saw a door, a new door that hadn't been there earlier.
It was a glowing door like all the others in the house, minus the nurseries', and like all the others featured a figure on it and a name. In this case it had the name Casandra on it and featured a figure that looked like the girl on the floor holding an hourglass and looking quite serious.
Mirabel and Abuela seemed to move in unison as they looked at the girl. Mirabel really looked at her this time, noticing the things she didn't see before. The nose that matched her own, the ears that matched her mothers and her own, and the green ruana she had seen so often in family photos.
The green ruana with hourglasses.
…
Casandra Madrigal had just gotten home from helping her Tio Juan in the town archivist and Casita was flipping its tiles worried.
"Wow, Casita you okay?" She asked, confused at the house's reaction.
It moved its tiles trying to communicate but she couldn't really understand. Honestly, only a candleholder really could talk to Casita and she wasn't that, but her Abuela and youngest brother were so she had learned a trick or two.
"Upstairs?" she muttered taking a guess and looked up to see her room door was opened.
"What the heck…." She muttered as she headed up the stairs, no one went into her room except her Abuela, brothers, or girlfriend and certainly not when she wasn't there.
She jogged up the stairs in a hurry and finally reached her room and her body went rigid as she saw her youngest brother, Mateo, with her mother.
Her mother, Hannah, was standing at the door in her room that she told everyone to stay away from. She looked very frustrated as she tried to pull it open.
"Cas! Cas! Mommy came to visit!" Mateo ran over to his sister with a smile.
Of course, he smiled. Tio Reyes and Tio David had let him still believe that fantasy that their Mother was a good person. That she hadn't abandoned three kids.
Trying to not upset Mateo, Cas kneeled down to his level but didn't let her eyes leave her mother and said, "Yep, why don't you tell Jaime and your Papis. I'm sure they would love to know she's here. Why don't you get them?"
Hannah looked very agitated at that and seemed to glare harder but Cas didn't budge and glared right back. Her mother's look no longer held power over her.
Her brother nodded excitedly, "Mom, I'll be right back with Jaime!"
The boy ran out not waiting on an answer from his mother on a mission to find his older brother.
Cas stood up with a hard glare at Hannah, "What are you doing here? You made it clear that you wanted nothing to do with us after Papi died."
Hell, she made it clear beforehand when Hannah left when Cas was 5.
Hannah gave her a very angry look with her blue eyes. They looked so hateful, it was weird looking at them since Jaime and Mateo have the same blue eyes.
The woman looked at the second door in her room and ran her hand along it, "You never told me you could time travel…."
Cas raised an eyebrow at that. First time seeing your daughter in 3 years and that's what she asked? The girl sighed, "Well, you never cared to ask about how my gift developed after you left. You were more concerned with how Pa died when you were here last."
"Well, Matt wrote to me about it," Hannah replied looking at the teenager.
"Mateo, he goes by Mateo now," Cas corrected, trying not to be bitter with the knowledge that she bothered reading letters from her youngest kid but not the other two.
"You can time travel….but you didn't save your father."
That struck a nerve immediately as Cas' eyes glowed a green color, "You don't know anything about that! I've tried it before! It never works out! No matter what I try.!"
"Try again then! I want Pedro back! I need to apologize!" Hannah demanded as she looked at her daughter in pure rage.
"Not happening! You could fuck up the timeline! Besides, if I changed time too much Mateo couldn't exist or something!" Cas argued angrily, how to fuck does the woman get to idea she can try this shit.
"Casandra Isabela Jameson Madrigal, I am your mother and you will do as I say!" Hannah ordered motioning to the door, "Open the door to before Pedro's death now!"
That earned a bitter laugh, "Oh your not trying to pull this shit. Seriously? Abuela Mirabel has been a mother to me over the last 12 years. Not you. You left a 5 year and a 2 year without a mother cause you wanted to run away from the issues you were having rather than working through them. You don't get to come back and try to call yourself my mother. Now get out!"
Cas angry turned to leave. Planning to get some of her more menacing uncles, probably Victor and Ivan, to make Hannah leave the Encanto when she heard a loud click. She recognized the sound from TV and movies.
She turned to see a gun pointed at her.
"Are you kidding me?" Cas asked incredulously as she looked at the handgun in Hannah's hand.
"Open the door, Casandra," Hannah warned with unwavering hands.
This was so stupid, Cas' eyes lite up as she tried to stop the time around Hannah but was surprised when she found her magic wasn't touching her, "What the…."
"I've been preparing for this for a while and found some chinese man to give me protection from your time magic," the woman explained as she noticed Cas' attempt, "You think I approached Matt by accident did you. He was the easiest one to get me in, especially since the house has to obey him. Matt just forgot to tell me you had to open the door. So open it."
The fuck Hannah, you could plan all this but not write to your other two kids, Cas thought as she looked at the gun again.
"Matt also told me recently you ran out of Julieta's cooking."
Damnit Mateo.
Cas moved forward slowly as the gun followed her. She moved to her door and looked at it as Hannah got right up to her back with the gun.
Cas tried planning quickly, taking her to Papa wasn't the best plan. The man was very mental unstable. She glanced to the side and focused on the date written on the back of a photo she was moving to a bigger album.
That date in her panic she picked to open the door to.
Thus May 21, 1950 and July 13, 2012 were connected.
The door lit up bright and before she could think about what she just did she was pushed out onto the railing and disoriented. She glanced back just in time to see Hannah run across the run and break the door to her time's knob off and watched its door light go out.
"What did you just do?" Cas yelled as she tried to tackle her mother but was met with a kick as they fought on in her doorway for a minute but found her face meeting her mothers backhand then she found herself falling to the floor.
