Elphaba felt heavy, she knew she wouldn't be able to move her body if she tried. Her head hurt, like hell, and her muscles felt so sore. She struggled to open her eyes, even her eyelids felt like they had a massive weight holding them down.

"I think she's regaining consciousness," she was barely able to make out that sentence.

She groaned slightly and managed to open her eyes the tiniest bit before shutting them again. It felt like such a work out to open them. She tried again.

"She's coming to," the same voice said again. It was male, and she didn't recognize it.

After what felt like an eternity, Elphaba finally managed to open her eyes fully, blinking them a couple times to let them adjust to the light. Her eyes immediately landed on her sister, Nessarose. She felt relieved, but then a little anxious at seeing three, four…five people in the room that she didn't know.

She guessed that the Goat was a doctor by his uniform. Then there was a young blonde girl in a lot of pink. There was an older couple, they looked old enough to be her parents, but still young, and a young man. He must be their son; he looked so strikingly similar to the older man, but had the woman's eyes.

Everyone but the doctor had tears in their eyes.

What happened?

"We weren't sure if you were going to make it, Your Highness," the doctor addressed her.

Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. 'Your highness'? "What?"

"You've been unconscious for a couple of days, far too long for our liking. If you hadn't woken up within the next 24 hours, it could've meant horrible brain damage. We might've lost you."

Elphaba started shaking in the bed. "Nessa," the girl immediately wheeled herself closer to her sister's side, "What's going on?"

Nessarose grasped her hand and Elphaba wiped away her tears. Was it her or did Nessarose look…older?

"There was an accident. You got really hurt. A pole collapsed and hit your head. We weren't sure if you would pull through. Oh thank the Unnamed God you did," Nessarose said in between sobs.

Accident? Elphaba grunted softly, feeling a small headache coming on. Well, that explained why she was in a lot of pain, but -

"Nessa, who are all these people?" Elphaba glanced around the room. Everyone's eyes widened in shock.

"Doctor Dillamond?" The young man asked, a hint of desperation in his voice.

Everyone turned to the Goat.

"Great Oz," he said. "Well…i-it's it's possible she may have retrograde amnesia."

"What does that mean exactly?" The blonde woman in pink said.

"It means she's lost memories from past events."

"How far back exactly?" Nessarose asked.

"Will her memory come back?" the older man asked.

Memory? "What exactly am I supposed to remember?" Elphaba looked around the room, searching for an answer.

"It's hard to say," the Goat said, "I would suggest feeding her some information, but not too much, we wouldn't want her to go into shock."

"Can someone tell me what's going on?" Elphaba squeezed Nessarose's hand, finding some comfort in her sister's touch.

"What if she never remembers?" The blonde squeaked, making Elphaba's head vibrate slightly. Ow.

"The possibility of her never getting her memory back is very rare."

"But not impossible," the young man whispered.

"Hey!" Elphaba exclaimed, silencing everyone in the room, then pressed a hand to her head. Dear Oz, that had hurt. Everyone turned to look at her. "Will everyone please stop talking like I'm not in the room and please tell me what's going on? Who are you people?"

"Fabala?" Nessarose held Elphaba's hand in both of hers. "Fabala, what year is it?"

"1899," Elphaba answered immediately.

Every person in the room audibly gasped. The young man slumped in a chair in the corner in the room and put his face in his hands, his shoulders started to shake. Was he crying?

And why did Elphaba feel the sudden urge to comfort him?

"What?" the woman asked, looking at the older man.

"Fabala," Nessarose thought of the best way to put it lightly, but all she could think of was to just say it. "It's 1903."

Elphaba's eyes widened. She felt sick to her stomach. Four years? She really couldn't remember four years? She let go of Nessarose's hand and rubbed her temple. She laughed icily. So much for not making her go into shock.

"Dear Oz," she muttered.

"What's the last thing you remember?" Her sister asked.

"Um…" the green girl searched her brain. Elphaba closed her eyes and tried to remember the most recent events she could. "I-I remember…you and I got our letters…letters saying that we've been accepted to Shiz University…and after that…everything is hazy," she kept searching her mind. Dear Oz, she really couldn't recall anything after that. And it frustrated the hell out of her. "And…who are you guys?" She addressed everyone in the room besides Nessarose.

Everyone exchanged glances except for the young man, who kept staring blankly at the wall across from him, his eyes bloodshot.

"I guess I'll go first," the blonde girl tentatively walked closer to her and sat at the edge of the bed, making Elphaba grip the bed sheet slightly. "I'm Galinda Upland, of the Upper Uplands. And…I'm your best friend."

'Best friend'? What in Oz? Elphaba had a best friend? The green girl looked at Nessarose, who nodded. Ok; she trusted her sister. But how in Oz was she best friends with someone who seemed so…bubbly? She certainly didn't think they could be compatible enough to be so close. But she was going to go along with it. She'd ask questions later.

"And - " Galinda turned around. "Fiyero, come here," she urged, holding her hand out for him.

He slowly stood up from his chair and walked over to Galinda. She placed a hand on his back, pulling him closer to Elphaba. The green girl locked eyes with him. Those blue eyes, there was something about them, but she couldn't place her finger on it. She sighed internally, she didn't know what she was supposed to make of him.

"Maybe I should tell her," Nessarose said. Galinda nodded, rubbing the man's, Fiyero's, she remembered, back.

"Fabala, this is Fiyero Tiggular."

Bells went off in Elphaba's head. She knew that name. Oz, what was it? Come on. Then it came to her. "Prince of the Vinkus?" She asked.

His eyes became completely devastated, he looked so crestfallen, and it made her inexplicably sad to see him like that.

"Well, yes," Nessarose started, "but…he's…he's also your husband."

"WHAT?!"

"And those are your in-laws," Galinda said like it was nothing and pointed to the older couple.
