WARNING MENTIONS OF TORTURE OF CHILDREN
"Let's just focus on a way out of here alright?" Amity said as she, Luz, and Hunter wandered around the mind of the Empress of the Boiling Isles after accidentally interrupting someone's spell.
Amity looked around and stopped at a memory portrait which was of a girl who almost looked precisely like Luz if it wasn't for the long hair and pilgrim-type dress she wore, The face was slightly obscured but it was clear that the girl was running around holding a stick in her hand while being chased by a group of boys armed with slingshots and rope who were lead by a boy in a horned mask welding a wooden sword. Amity then slowly moved her finger near it.
Gravesfield Connecticut 1600s
"Get the witch!" One of them yelled as the young girl giggled hiding in a tree the boys searched for her until... "Found you!"
The girl looked down and saw the boy with the mask jumping up and down trying to poke her with the sword as the girl climbed down with the boy striking her shoulder.
She then fell to the ground laughing. "Oh, great witch hunter spare me!"
"No witch shall see mercy from Witch hunter General Philip Wittebane!" Philp said before leaping onto the girl as the two rolled around in the autumn leaves laughing until the other older boys quickly grabbed the girl and began tying her up with the rope however unlike the other times it was tightened to the point where burn marks could start to appear.
"STOP PLEASE!" The girl pleaded before being gagged with a cloth. "What are you doing?!" Philip asked as one of the older boys responded "Preparing her for a trial of course."
They then walked to a nearby pond as another boy holding a Bible asked her "Do you claim the Lord as your Savior and protector and renounce the works of the Devil?" The girl could do nothing but cry. "Then let us test your faith in him"
Philip ran to intervene but was held back as the girl was dropped into the pond with her head held down as she struggled to breathe before being brought back up to the surface.
"Do you renounce the Devil's influence!?" The boy shouted in her face but tears were the only response she gave him as she was dunked again and held for much longer to which she felt like she was about to pass out or worse when WHACK!
The boy holding her was hit in the face by Philip's sword as he turned the girl the other way and took the gag off her as she began crying and sobbing as snot came out of her nose.
"You little brat!" The boy yelled before being hit once again in the head this time by the butt of a rifle. The rest of them backed away from the attacker, a man with aging grey hair with a large goatee and mustache wearing all black except for his white shirt and gold shoe buckles wearing a large hat.
He had just been riding a horse and alongside side, he was a blonde boy wearing a shirt and suspenders. "Caleb!" Philp shouted as the man began walking towards them.
"General Thompson..." One of the boys stuttered as Philip had finished untying the girl who coughed up water and vomited on the floor accidentally staining the man's boots to which she backed away in fear.
"May I remind you children that only authorized Witch Hunters are allowed to be part of these trials?" He spoke with his aged crooked voice as they all nodded before leaving as Philip was the only boy still in the area.
"Though I must say I'm slightly disappointed by you."
"Sir?" Philip asked.
"You helped set a witch free," Thompson stated as the blonde boy then stepped in.
"Sir, He and Camila were simply playing and having fun with..." He didn't finish as he felt Thompson's gloved hand smacking his face.
"FUN? DO YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME BOY!?, This is a threat to our community and people if it weren't for Reverend Samuel I'd hang this dirty little outsider for her witch oddities!, Yesterday I caught her reading a book about the Devil's influence."
"If you're going to arrest someone it should be Mister Lewis, he lent it to me," Camila stated only to be ignored by the witch hunter.
"As for your father." Thompson began "Tell him that his position as Lieutenant is no longer."
"But..." Philip stuttered as Caleb stopped him as he rephrased his words. "Yes sir..."
"Good in the meantime I'd advise you, children, to play something less... violent," Thompson said as he rode off on his horse leaving the three children to themselves.
"Come on let's go back it's getting dark," Caleb said as they quickly went back to town where a wooden post was placed with the words Gravesfield on the front, it was a very small town with over 150 people that was slightly higher until the witch trials began.
The two Wittebane boys walked with Camila whose dress was now soaking wet as they made their way to the local church where several people were exiting the trio walked in and saw Reverend Samuel leaving his podium he was a young man in his early twenties with a wooden cross necklace around his neck he had a ponytail with combed coal black hair holding a Bible in his hands as he saw them and quickly ran up to Camila holding her tightly in his arms.
"My lord! What happened?" He asked wiping away the tears from the young girl's face.
"It was just the older children trying to start their witch trial," Caleb answered.
Samuel then had a mad look in his eyes before calming down. "I appreciate you two bringing her back."
"Your welcome Reverend," Caleb replied as he and Philip left with Philip giving a small wave to Camila who briefly smiled.
"Oliver Copper and his pack did this I assume?" Samuel asked as Camila nodded with more tears leaking out. "I wish I could help but you know how the Copper family is, I'm just glad I found you before they did who knows what they would have done to you?"
She whimpered at the thought as the Coppers were known to have various slaves working and would sometimes beat them for entertainment. "Just remember that you are under my protection." "Yes, Reverend Samuel." She replied.
"Now go change I'll hang your dress out to dry, there's a gown for you in the back." Samuel then left Camila to her privacy as she went to the back of the church where she was laying on a bed in a small room used for storage.
After changing clothes and laying down on the bed as Samuel then blew out a candle that was lighting the room. "Sweet dreams child." He closed the door as she lay in bed ready to sleep when she saw a bright light near the window which she opened to see a ball of light floating in the air.
She then crawled out the window to look at it closely only for it to start moving away from her she continued chasing after it as it went further and further into the woods before stopping at a cave entrance full of other balls of lights.
With curiosity getting the better of her she walked inside following the trail which stopped at a small campsite inside with a tent as well as a pillow and a small fire making it warm except the color wasn't orange-red like a normal fire it was blueish purple and above the fire was a large pig roasting over it.
Soon the sound of footsteps walking towards the area was heard causing her to hide inside the tent she watched a set of shoes walk near the fire as the person wearing them bent over and tear off a leg from the roast as they act, it was clear that the person was a woman wearing a skirt and pants along with a black cloak covering the rest of her body she then removed the hood which showed their large puffy dark brown hair, she also wore small rounded glasses and had a mole on her nose on top of that she wore a coat and a buttoned blouse underneath it but what caught Camila's attention were her pointed ears, unlike anything she had seen before causing the girl to step back and stumble on the tent tearing a hole into it and landing with an echoing crash.
Camila then started getting up only to be grabbed by the woman who yanked her upwards pulling her close to her pale white face as her sea blue eyes looked at her as spoke with a demanding demeanor. "What are you doing here in my cave child?"
