I don't own! I only own Shannon and anything else I make up! I also am not very well versed in military things, so I apologize for inaccuracies!

001

The Air and Flight Museum was really the perfect place for her. It allowed her to be close to what she loved without actually being part of the action. That wasn't an option anymore.

Did she miss the thrill of flying? This was the most commonly asked question. Well, actually, Will you ever fly again? was the most common. Well... She actually found now that the fear outdid the excitement.

It had been two years since the crash, two years being grounded and recovering. And honestly, she was just fine with it.

This way she got to teach people all about aviation, having been a pilot herself. And her parents liked this way of life more for her, which, especially after the crash, she more than understood.

She was just wrapping up a Spanish language tour of the facility when she noticed the familiar face hanging out towards the back of the group.

"Mav!" She completely interrupted herself, confusing the people on tour. Mav waved and mouthed 'sorry' as the whole entire group turned to face him before breaking away from the group.

She apologized to her group and finished up. They applauded and thanked her and dispersed around the museum, leaving time for her to go greet the guest of honour.

"Hey!" She jumped into his arms. When she was a kid she would literally have to jump up into his arms for a hug. She grew up calling him Uncle Mav and Uncle Pete.

"Hey Shan." He hugged her back. "Your Dad's got me back at Top Gun."

"I heard. He's got me back too, reporting on the mission training."

"Oh good, a familiar face at least."

"Yeah."

"Got a break for a walk?"

"Yeah I have fifteen minutes till the next tour, let's do it."

"So how are things?" he asked her as they strolled along the outskirts of the museum hangars.

"Good good, living the life."

"Your parents?"

"Mom's okay."

"And your dad?"

"He's-" She was cut off as a sudden sob overtook her. "He's not doing well, Mav."

"Oh Shan, I'm so sorry."

"It's bad - he puts on a brave face for Mom and I, but - well, you know how unbelievably stubborn he is."

"That I do. I'm sorry, Shan."

"Thanks. You being back has definitely perked him up a bit. How are you doing?"

He shrugged. "Good, same old. A little surprised honestly to be back."

"Some would say we never left."

"True."

"Hey I've gotta get back, but do you wanna meet later at the Hard Deck? I can tell you about the job and who you'll be working with."

"Sounds great, Shan."

"Awesome. Seven?"

"I'll be there."

"Cool. Appetizers are on me. You brought the motor bike?"

"I sure did."

"Sweet, I'm taking it for a spin - I've still got five minutes!"

"Arrive to your next tour in style."

"Exactly!"

They shared a laugh - it was good to have Uncle Mav back.

Okay, there's chapter one! We'll meet the other pilots and Penny next chapter ;)

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed! :)
