~Prologue~

Life in Arendelle was hardly predictable for the young sisters born into their life of privilege. Tragedy and triumph was their story. Not many who venture to the Black Hallows return, but the daughters got to say goodbye to their beloved parents. Both sisters had found leases on life further developing power within themselves and capturing the attention of two important men in their lives. The young Arendelle queen had said yes to this man and plans for a wedding and coronation for the new king began. Life in Arendelle was busy and showed no signs of slowing down.

~Chapter 1~

Elsa

It had been eight months since Niklas asked me to be his wife and I couldn't deny I was counting down the days. Arendelle was prospering and what a perfect time to name my fiance Arendelle's next king. At one time, fear overwhelmed my mind telling me I couldn't do this job and when I learned I could, it changed my entire perspective. It excited me to have Niklas at my side and we'd be a strong team like my parents before us. Thinking of them brought tears to my eyes as we departed the Hallows all those months ago and how I wished they could be here for my wedding, but I'm thankful they got to meet Niklas.

The wedding was a week away and all our staff hadn't seemed to stop moving in a hustle since the engagement was announced. Today was an important day too. Anna was dropping by with my dress for the big day for final looks. Then I had a mid-afternoon appointment was Niklas and his father. I desperately wanted it to go well and even thinking about this meeting my soon-to-be father-in-law was nerve-racking. Anna knocked on my bedroom door like she had done the entirety of our lives announcing herself before coming in with a tray of food. She came in with Gerda who was carrying a large box.

"Good morning, my beautiful sister," Anna beamed, "I gotta admit, I'll be sad when the wedding is over, it's been fun to plan."

"Well, I'll be doing the same for you someday, so I'll want to know all your secrets." I smiled.

She handed me the tray of food surprised to be getting breakfast in bed. Anna skipped over to the closed curtains at my window and slowly let in the sunshine of the morning. Gerda put the box down on the floor before leaving Anna and me alone while I ate. My sister sat in the lounge chair across the room from me talking about wedding details. I ate my food as I listened.

"Grand Pabbie tells me the weather will be glorious considering the cooler autumn weather, so that's a load off whether the reception will be indoor or outdoor."

"Niklas really wanted the reception outside since the ceremony was going to be indoor and honestly I agreed." I shrugged.

"No need to explain," Anna nodded making more notes on a notepad she had on her since the day she started to plan the wedding.

"Oaken wanted to lead a clogging dance for the reception and,"

My eyes widened thinking about the disaster that would be.

"Please tell me you-"

"I took care of it, Elsa." Anna nodded.

She continued scanning down her list writing down things here and there to herself.

"Olaf and Sven are ringbearers and Niklas's niece, Aria, is the flower girl. Kristoff is going to play his lute for the reception while I'll end the night with a bang."

I narrowed my gaze as my sister had kept this detail a surprise.

"A bang, Anna?" I asked nervously.

"I've already told Niklas about it and he's all for it. He knows as I do that you'll love it. Come on, Elsa. Trust your sister." She winked.

"Of course, I trust you." I rolled my eyes with a smirk. "Where are the guys anyway, I know Kristoff has been helping you."

"Like with your dress, they're getting their final fittings for their suits. Speaking of fittings," Anna urged gesturing to the box that Gerda had left. I had eaten my fill and was ready pulling myself out of bed as Anna called for Gerda to rejoin us. This was my third time putting this dress on and I still got as excited as the first time. Gerda handed my sister the box as I pulled out what lay inside. I fanned it out pinning it against my shoulders as I looked into the nearby mirror on the wall.

"It's more beautiful than I remembered." I smiled.

"Well, the dress won't wear itself." Anna urged.

I stepped into the gown as Gerda helped to pull the garment up as I put my arms through the lace sleeves. A crystalline bodice met my gaze as I traced my fingers over them. A few buttons secured the back as my sister scooted a stool toward me to step on as I looked in the mirror again. A slender, simple silhouette that was more fitted than gowns I had grown up wearing. Anna and Gerda both pulled out the train of the dress that was several inches in length fully out, but it was detachable, which was a huge feature. Gerda and Anna both stared in awe as I spun around a few times.

"No going back now, I think this dress is a keeper," I laughed.

"You're stunning, your majesty!" Gerda clapped proudly.

"If Niklas's jaw doesn't hit the floor when he sees you, I don't know what will."

"Well, he will see me beforehand, so-"

"What?" My sister interrupted, "When were you going to tell me?"

I pinched the bridge of my nose not awake enough to deal with my sister's arguing.

"Niklas and I discussed it a few days ago. We want one private moment before the ceremony together. Is that so wrong?"

"But wedding traditions-"

"Are bound to change," I interrupted, "Besides it's a wedding and coronation, so it already isn't very traditional." I shrugged.

I stepped down from the stool reaching for the buttons.

"Alright, final fitting done. Now let's get me out of this thing so I don't sweat it out before then."

I slid out of the gown and pulled a more casual dress for my every day from my wardrobe in the corner. Gerda took my gown and left leaving Anna and I alone. I sat down on my bed grabbing my brush from my nightstand giving my hair a good brush ridding my blonde hair of its bedhead.

"This bedhead is something else," I complained.

"My dear sweet, Elsa, you think that is bedhead?" Anna smirked.

"Touche," I laughed, putting down my brush.

My smile faded as Anna came and sat down next to me.

"You nervous about meeting him?"

Anna had a talent for reading my emotions.

"It'll be fine. Niklas will be with me-"

"And I'd come too, if I were invited, I could make your soon to be father in law really remember me," Anna smirked, flicking a flame up with her index finger. I rolled my eyes grabbing her finger snuffing out the flame with my icy hand.

"That my dear Anna, is why you aren't coming, not that you would in any case. This is important for me to do alone with Niklas."

"Alright, alright, I know."

She got up heading for the door before I called to her as she reached for the doorknob.

"Anna?"

"Hmm?" She turned facing me again.

"Thanks for having my back."

"You'll always have me, but in a week's time, I'll pass my torch to your husband." She winked, "I'm going to see if the guys are here, you coming?"

"In a minute, I'll be right there." I nodded.

The door shut behind her as I was left alone. I got up and walked to gaze out my window. It was a beautiful morning here in Arendelle and in one week this nation would welcome a new king.
