Breaking Omori

Chapter 1

The road seemed to stretch on forever, but then again, everything seemed to take longer for him as of late.

Bored out of his mind, Sunny tried playing a game in his head while looking out the window, searching for the occasional cow or dirt road passing by. He redirected his gaze towards the front of the car, and peeked at the GPS screen his mom was using. It was still a few hours before they would even be in New Mexico. Sigh…

To say he had a lot of things on his mind would be an understatement, he was still grappling with the fact that he caused his own sister's death, that he had lost all his friends for good, that even if they did forgive him, he was still moving away to a new city and would never see them again.

Eventually, the car passed through a desert and Sunny's head perked up, as he read the sign on the road in front of him: "WELCOME TO ALBUQUERQUE"

He'd never even seen the city before, but from now on it was his new home. As they pulled into the driveway, Sunny noticed just how big their new house was. Wow… He stood there for a second, while his mom went inside. He started to walk toward the door, but he thought he heard something coming from the trunk of the car.

He stopped, and walked toward the noise. It sounded like… crying? And it was so familiar… could it be… of course not…

Cautiously, he opened up the trunk, only to find a face with tears in its eyes, looking back up at him. "B- BASIL?!"

"Wa- sniff- waAaAAaaaAa! sUnNY!"

"Wha- what the fuck are you doing here?"

"Sniff sniff- Sunny… I- I snuck into the back of your car! I'm soOoOOryY!"

Sunny began to panic as his friend laid there crying. "KEEP IT DOWN! My mom will hear you! Why did you follow me?"

Basil climbed out of the trunk and hugged him.

"I- I LOVE YOU SUNNY! PLEASE LET ME STAY WITH YOU!"

"H-huh?"

"Sniff- I was in there for so long… it was so dark and smelly… WaaaAAAAAAHHHHH! I- I'm just a wittle femboy uwu… I couldn't take it… WaaAAAAAaaaaAAAAAHHHHHH!"

"DID YOU JUST SAY UWU?!"

Sunny had managed to sneak his visitor into the house while his mom wasn't looking, and while she went out for groceries the two of them sat there on the couch. The TV was playing some random infomercial, so he turned the volume down to hear himself think.

[I had a good job until…]

Basil looked down. "Um- Sunny?"

[...Accused me of stealing!]

"What."

"Well there's something else I forgot to mention…"

[...out partying, minding my own business…]

"Ya?"

[...you are under arrest!]

"Um… well… you're being tried for involuntary manslaughter."

Sunny spat out the glass of water he was drinking. "WHAT?!"

"Ya, um, the police are trying to find us, cause of what we did to Mari, so I had to run away."

He just stood there, with his eyes open. "thi- this is terrible! I can't go to jail! I need a lawyer! Where the hell am I going to find a lawyer?!"

Basil's head turned towards the TV. "Well, what about him?"

He turned the volume back up and saw a man sitting with the declaration of independence behind him.

[Hi, I'm Saul Goodman. Did you know that you have rights? The Constitution says you do. And so do I. I believe that until proven guilty, every man, woman, and child in this country is innocent. And that's why I fight for you, Albuquerque!] [Better! Call! Saul!]

"He looks like a great lawyer, Sunny!"

To be continued…
