Hello and welcome to another experimental fanfic of Kinsou no Vermeil (aka Vermeil In Gold), in which an inspiration popped into my head in an unexpected way, and this is probably an experiment that I'm going to try out on.
This started out after reading the manga online, where a representative from the Ortigia Military was introduced, and there Elena Kimberlight's elder brother was introduced, which raised my curiosity given that he has a different surname and this implies that he and Elena are half-siblings, and there an idea popped into my head about making a fic showing the Kimberlight family, and also came up with an idea about pairing Elena with Alto, as I find their chemistry... intriguing…This will be rated T for a reason…

Ch. 1: Keikaku sa reta kazoku no atsumari
Ortigia Academy of Magic.
It was summertime and the heat is starting to take its toll on the students, and their familiars, who are looking forward to get out of the classroom and waited for dismissal time to arrive, and at the same time Ortigia Academy has unveiled an expanded swimming pool area inside the campus, much to the students' delights. This was in response to a student who suggests that they should have one since some more and more transfer students came, and some who are attending summer classes, and with the heat wave kicking in, the students are starting to complain about the bad heat and sweating in their school uniform.
Also, the student council took the students' suggestion as they believed that the students shouldn't be reliant on their magic to just quench the summer heat and given the current season at the moment, the student council members suggested to the headmaster to construct a swimming pool so that the students would have something to soothe themselves from the summer heat.
At the student council room, the student council members are having a meeting in regards to the announcement that the swimming pool area is open to the students, and they expected that the students of Ortigia Academy would head there once classes are over, which the council members are expecting it.
The student council members are shown convening and the members in attendance are identified as:
- Elena Kimberlight
- Shinouji Ryuuga
- Jessica Schwarz
- Chris Westland
- Alan
The council members question Elena on why she suggested to the headmaster to have a swimming pool built seeing that there is no need for it, but Elena reasoned that it would be impractical for the students to use their magic just to quell the summer heat and believe that they might unknowingly abuse their magic, and that it would be better if the students would go to the swimming pool area of the academy instead of going to the river or pond.
"…and that is what I believe…"
"But, president…"
"Are you sure about this…"
"A swimming pool of all…"
"Its fine. Rather than seeing the students get rowdy over a summer heat that may escalate if left uncheck. Believe me. It would benefit the students and the academy…"
"Fine."
"Fine."
"Fine."
After some time, dismissal time arrived, and classes ended, and the students of Ortigia Academy can be heard rejoicing, as they are now heading for the pool area to take a bit of fun.
"WOW! THE SWIMMING POOL'S BEEN OPENED! A REAL SWIMMING POOL! NOW WE WON'T HAVE TO GO OUT AND HEAD TO THE RIVER OR POND!"
"WOOHOO!"
"I'M GOING SWIMMING!"
"YEE-HAH! NOW I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVE SWIMMING AFTER CLASSES!"
"COME ON, LET'S GO!"
"YIIPEE!"
"YAHOO!"
"OUT OF MY WAY!"

At the gate of Ortigia Academy, Elena was walking as she is heading for the dormitory, as there is no meeting today with the student council, and thus the student council members have left, some heading back to the dorm, though others have other PRESSING ISSUES, thus leaving Elena alone, yet she did not seem to mind it much.
As Elena is ready to depart, an unexpected visitor appeared, which Elena was quite taken by surprise as she never thought she would encounter someone out of the blue, and she sighed as she reluctantly greeted the person who showed up unannounced, a man who appeared to be in his 20s, and he appeared to be familiar with Elena.
"Hello, Elena."
"Huh?"
"Good to see you…"
"I didn't expect to see you show up all of the sudden…"
"Well, I'm the type who is full of surprises…"
"Oh please…"
"Come on now, my dear sister…"
"…"
The person who appeared before her is identified as Leonard Gearnote, a lieutenant general in the Ortigia Military. It is also revealed that he is the elder half-brother of Elena, due to being a child of Elena's parents with a separate parent, though Elena still respect him because he is her elder sibling, though deep inside she wished that she wouldn't meet him frequently.
As Leonard greeted her, Elena just nodded and asked what brings him here all of the sudden, which made her wonder if something is up which might involve the security of Ortigia Academy, which Leonard smiled and waved his hand sideways, assuring her that the academy is not in danger.
"No, no…nothing like that of the sort…"
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
"…"
"Ortigia Academy is not in danger. That I assure you."
"You better be right, brother dear…"
"Ha-ha…"
"…"
While this brought relief, Elena was baffled at her elder half-brother showing up unannounced, and asked him what brought him here and what business does he have here, in which Leonard took a deep breath and tells her that a family gathering is set to take place within this week, and all members of the family are to attend the ball, and attendance is a must.
Elena frowned a bit yet she reluctantly accepted, and as she is about to leave, thinking that the discussion is over, Leonard called her back, saying that he has an additional announcement to tell her, which she glanced at him and asked what is it this time, and there Leonard playfully spoke in an announcer's tone, where he said that family members in high school are required to bring a date, causing her to raise an eyebrow.
"A…date…?"
"Yes, my little sister dear."
"…"
"You should bring a date."
"Is that a joke…? I'm not impressed…"
"Whoa-whoa-whoa…"
"…"
"Easy, Elena…"
Leonard waved his hands sideways as Elena almost glared at him, as she thinks that what her elder half-brother said is a prank, but he reiterated that this came from the Kimberlight matriarch, saying that the family gathering also doubles as a prom, which Elena face-palmed at hearing this. She couldn't believe that the family matriarch would come up with something she deemed as silly.
"Is she serious…?"
"I'm afraid so…"
"She actually said that…?"
"Yes. Straight from her mouth."
"Goodness…what was she thinking…"
"It came from her and she is serious about it."
"I can't believe she said that…"
"Ha-ha…"
Leonard said that he is abiding with the matriarch's words and said that this is a good timing as he is planning to introduce his girlfriend to Kimberlight family, which Elena stared wide-eyed in surprise, as she didn't know that Leonard is dating someone, and she asked him if he is bluffing or not, which he assured to her that he is dating for real, and is not bragging.
A…are you playing a prank…?"
"No, my little sister dear."
"…"
"I'm telling the truth."
"You…have a girlfriend…? I'm not impressed with that punchline you made…"
"Whoa-whoa-whoa…"
"…"
"Easy, Elena…"
After a few minutes Leonard bid goodbye as he has to report back to base, and advised his younger half-sister to find a HANDSOME date, and as Leonard left, she sighed in an annoying way as she finds herself facing a problem, as she is not seeing any boy right now and is currently not facing any suitors. While there are admirers, she finds no one interesting to her.

The next day, the scene shifts at the student council room, where Elena is with Jessica and Chris, where they are finishing a term paper and is subject for submission, and after that, both girls noticed that Elena is mentally preoccupied, and they asked her what is the matter, where she reluctantly told the two what her problem is, which surprised the two girls.
"Whoa…"
"Are you serious?"
"Yes. I'm serious."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk…so you're required to bring a date…"
"Is your grandmother serious about that?"
"Makes me wonder if she is or if Leonard is pulling a prank…"
"But he said that he is bringing his girlfriend over…so maybe…"
"But this is a problem indeed for you, president…"
"…"
Chris nonchalantly suggested that Elena ask any of her male classmates if they are available this weekend, but Jessica berated her, saying that Elena is a respectable student and she cannot ask any random boy out of the blue to be her escort, saying that the Kimberlight matriarch's requirement is a bit too much, as finding a date is no easy feat.
"Chris!"
"What?"
"This is serious! Are you saying that the president should find a guy to be her date out of the blue?"
"Why not? If her grandmother said that if the president can bring a date…if ever another girl…I might offer to be her escort…"
"This isn't funny!"
"Do you want to be the president's escort…?"
"What?"
"You seem to be eager…"
As Chris and Jessica bicker amongst themselves, their two other fellow student council members, Shinouji and Alan, came, as they are carrying a pile of paperwork, and there Chris came up with an idea and asked the two boys if they are available this weekend, saying that Elena needed an escort for the Kimberlight family ball, and claimed that Elena would be GRATEFUL if they accompany her.
Jessica stared wide-eyed while Elena just sipped her cup of tea after Chris' bold request, but it didn't work, as Shinouji had a legitimate reason to turn down the request as he said that he is playing host at his home as his grandmother is paying him a visit, and apologized, saying that he is not available this weekend even though he said that he is willing to help Elena.
As for Alan, he said that he has AN OUTSIDE ACTIVITY this weekend and he is not available, which Jessica is peeved seeing the goofy facial expressions on his face, though Elena did not seem to mind it and tells Chris that it is okay as she will figure out a way, which Jessica asked if Elena is sure about this, as she has three days left before the Kimberlight family gathering.
"President…are you sure?"
"Yes."
"But…"
"Its fine. I'll figure out a way."
"Are…are you sure…?"
"Yes, Jessica. Don't worry about me."
"President…"
"…"
By then, Alto Goldfield and his familiar, Vermeil, arrived, also carrying a pile of term paper, and there he apologized for arriving late, which Elena said that it is okay, but then Chris and Alan glanced at Alto, and a pair of LIGHT BULBS popped on top of Chris and Alan's heads, ideas came rushing onto their heads, which they immediately realized that this is the answer to their problems, and the two approached Alto and hastily asked if he is available this weekend.
"Alto Goldfield!"
"Alto Goldfield!"
"Huh? Y-yes…?"
"We have a favor to ask!"
"Its important!"
"Um…what is it…?"
"Are you available this weekend?"
"Its for the president!"
"Me…?"

Hope you liked this chapter, as this is my first attempt to do a slice-of-life-based fanfic, in which I borrowed some elements from the manga which Leonard Gearnote appeared, and pulled quite a shocker of an announcement…
Although Alto appeared late in this chapter, his TROUBLE has commenced as Chris and Alan decided to use him as a way to help out Elena, though Alto seemed to be unaware of what is going on…
