The man ran down a dark alley, breathing heavily. Even through his shark-like facial features one could see the fear in his face. He saw the door he was looking for and made a beeline for it, but before he could open it, it locked on its own. He looked around, not sure who or what was chasing him.
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT MAN?" He shouted.
He got no response. From the end of the alley, he heard the clang of a falling garbage can. He turned to look, hoping to catch a glimpse of his pursuer through the darkness. As he focused on that one spot, he failed to hear the shuffle of a footstep from behind him. As he was tackled from behind, he tried to get a look at his attacker. His face was covered with a ballcap and a mask. That was all the man saw before the electricity surged through his body, knocking him out.
That man was a member of a small-time yakuza group. You might be wondering why I was chasing him. Well, two years ago he, along with two of his comrades, killed Kuno, my sister. She was a student at UA high school's heroics course, and tried to stop them during her work study. The bastard shot her and backup didn't arrive in time.
A few months after the funeral, my father buried himself in his work to cope with the pain while my mother rarely came out of their room. As for me, healthy or not, I chose revenge as my coping mechanism. I had originally planned to enter UA's support course when I was older. I was always a tinkerer and had a few blueprints put together for electric based weapons. I had decent athletic abilities, particularly in parkour, but without a quirk, I needed a way to turn things to my favor. It was then that I found my inspiration.
While browsing the internet, I came across some old videos of a vigilante from the pre-quirk era. He was known as The Fox and used hacking to get to his targets. It made sense, most everything is run by computers these days. I spent months learning to hack with nothing but my phone, hide my IP and get to areas nobody else could. I spent the last year hunting down the men who killed her, and now, with the last one being taken by the police, my sister was finally avenged. It took me a while to decide what I was going to do, but I finally decided, I'd become a hero for my sister. But first, I had to get into a hero school.
It was just another day at Aldera junior high. The teacher was handing out school applications, or more accurately, throwing them out under the excuse that everyone was going to UA. Everyone got excited and started showing off their quirks. It was at that point that HE decided to speak up.
"Hey teach, don't lump me in with these losers." Bakugo said in his usual arrogant tone of voice.
'Not again.' Tekuno thought with a groan. He sighed as everyone started yelling at Bakugo and he went on to berate them as D-list sidekicks. Then the teacher turned Bakugo's attention to Izuku. 'Izuku,' Tekuno thought, 'Still going for UA, huh? Jesus Christ, just give up, you're gonna die man.' Maybe that was a little hypocritical considering Tekuno was quirkless as well, but at least he was putting in the work. What was Izuku doing other than taking trivia notes on heroes. He zoned out for the rest of the day, operating on autopilot. When he got home, his dad didn't get home, but surprisingly, his mother was in the kitchen.
"Hey Mom," Tekuno greeted, "How are you feeling?" He asked her.
His mother sighed, "About the same as always," She said, not looking him in the eye. "So do you have anything you want to tell me or do I have to initiate this?" She asked.
Tekuno blinked, unsure of what was implied, "Where are you going with this Mom?" He asked.
His mother turned around, showing him her phone. "I got an email from your homeroom teacher saying you're applying for the UA hero course."
So that's what it was about. "Mom." Tekuno said, "I'm doing this for-"
She cut him off, "Whatever the reason, did you ever stop to think about me, or your father?" She said, tears forming in her eyes, "YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A QUIRK! I ALREADY LOST MY KUNO, I CAN'T LOSE MY SON TOO!"
"Mom, I get it. But I've got a way around it. "This," Tekuno explained, holding up his phone, "will level the field for me."
His mom stared at him incredulously, "What are you talking about Tekuno?" She asked.
Tekuno didn't bother speaking, rather he started hacking everything in the house.
"Computers are everywhere." The TV said.
"From your cell phone to your TV, your house to your car, all of these can be hacked." The stereo followed up.
"And a good hacker can potentially control the entire world." His mom's phone finished.
As his mother looked at him in shock, Tekuno finally spoke, "You see?" He asked her, in hopes that she understood where he was coming from. "I know the risk, but I want to do something for Kuno, and I've thought this through a lot. If I can be a hero in her name, I feel that's what I need to do."
His mother sighed, "If, and I cannot stress this 'if' hard enough, I allow you to go through with this, it will be on one condition." She said sternly, "I need you to agree to this no matter what. Do you understand?" Tekuno nodded and his mother continued. "If you're father and I allow you to join the hero course, I want your word that if you get hurt, in any way whatsoever, you will immediately transfer. Any other course is fine, but if you get hurt once I want you out of heroics."
Tekuno nodded, knowing this was the best he could get. "Okay Mom, you have my word." He said.
His mother sighed in relief, "Thank you Tekuno." With that, Tekuno got back to his preparations while waiting for his mothers answer.
