Authors note: So, been a while since I've written anything, last time I did any writing that wasn't school assignments was 'The Promise', which was a little over a year ago. I wasn't planning on writing anymore until Huniepop 2 came out. I fell in love with the first game when it came out, not with the sex, but with the characters. This franchise is weird in a way, you first watch or play it because you're horny, then it slaps you with actual characters with cool personalities and whatnot, whether you agree with that or not is up to you. Kyu's my favorite character of the bunch so this is going to be a Kyu and protag centered fic. I'm not sure if I have what it takes to even finish this series, but as long as I have the motivation to write this I won't be going anywhere else. If you haven't seen Huniepop yet, I'd suggest playing or watching let's plays of the first game and the sequel.

Writing this was a bit challenging, with my Konosuba fic it was simple since I read the light novels, so I knew how to format the fic, but for this, I didn't have a foundation so I just had to go with my gut. If you have any tips or valid criticism please don't hold back! Anyway, enjoy!

It was like any other day in the life of Kyu Sugardust. The love fairy was in a bit of a happy mood since she just succeeded yet again at turning some dude into a babe magnet. "This is like what, the 218th one by now? Man am I too good at my job or what?" Kyu proudly thought out loud as she wandered around Sky Garden with no set goal in mind.

Looking around, the love fairy's mood quickly dampened as she realized the predicament she was in. "Ugh, there's nothing to do here!" Kyu groaned defeatedly. Sky Garden had a lot of things to offer, but for a love fairy such as Kyu, "a lot" wasn't nearly enough to satisfy her boredom.

Kyu floated around the shopping mall with half-lidded eyes, dangly arms and a slumped back. The mall was very similar to the ones on Earth, with multiple floors that could be accessed with the help of escalators even though love fairies had wings. The place didn't have anything new to interest the bored fairy. Clothing shops, restaurants, coffee shops, anime and manga stores, the usual. One particular sign caught Kyu's attention, though. The sign read, "New SG Vibrator 2000 with fifty-seven vibrating options to satisfy your needs! Preorder one for 7000 munie right now!"

Kyu pondered on whether to get one when her HunieBee buzzed, pushing the perverted thoughts to the back of her head. She looked at the notifications tab.

"Kyu, I know it is a bit soon, but I have another client for you to take care of. Come to the palace and I will give you the details."

Well, this was weird; the Goddess of Love normally gave love fairies a day or two to relax before sending them back off to Earth. Kyu didn't mind the new task; it wasn't productive to do nothing for so long anyways despite the long lives that love fairies lived. Besides, their job was to spread love throughout the human world, so the more she did her job, the better the salary!

"Well, I guess there's no excuse not to buy that vibe now!" the love fairy thought enthusiastically, placing a preorder before flying to Venus' palace.

Venus' palace was the same as ever. Being at the luxurious castle for the nth time diminished all the excitement one would normally experience during such an occasion. Hell, the palace seemed to be about being flashy more than anything else. "Gosh, it must be an acid trip trying to find your way around this place." Kyu never bothered exploring it since there wasn't any need to. She didn't live there, so why the hell would she?

Kyu walked down the unnecessarily long hallway leading to the throne room doors. The hallway's size certainly gave a sense that a deity waited at the end. Both sides of the hallway had small dark red hearts embedded into the walls in a checkered pattern that connected with the polished marble floor of the same design, and lines of rose-filled vases ran down their length, completing the elegant look of the palace.

The grandness and beauty, however, stopped impressing Kyu a while ago. To some, it was an intimidating reminder of Venus' power and position. But to Kyu, it was another meeting with the boss at her office. Kyu's footsteps echoed and rang out around the hallway, almost sounding like a drumbeat with how evenly the fairy walked. The overly massive doors were opened as Kyu strolled into the throne room, where the Goddess of Love sat and drank all day. Funny thing, Kyu had never seen the Goddess drunk before, not even remotely.

"Hey, there, boss! I've missed your pretty face!" the love fairy joked.

The woman on the receiving end of the joke chuckled slightly. "Hi, Kyu. How was your recent client? I heard he was a bit of a hassle to take care of."

Filled with memories of her most recent job, Kyu couldn't help but look off into the distance with slight disgust. "Ugh, god, don't even remind me of him, I've dealt with a fair number of people who were up their own asses but that guy just takes the cake!"

This was basically a tradition at this point. Since the Goddess of Love was fairly close with the fairy, she often listened to Kyu ramble about her clients whenever the latter was done with them. Venus didn't mind, of course, in fact, she was more than happy to listen to the fairy vent whenever she had to. It was definitely more entertaining than sitting in her palace idling about, and those who came to serve her personally were so deferential to her wishes that she could rarely have anything like a real conversation with them.

"I mean, I get that having confidence is key when you're looking to date, but fuck, that guy was unbearable! I would actually pay you to let me ruin his love life 'cause he sure as hell didn't deserve my help." Kyu looked at the Goddess while crossing her arms and putting all her weight on one leg.

Venus smiled lazily. "Well, that is quite sad to hear, considering your job. In any case, I'm sure you've already found a use for your precious time, and I wouldn't have called you normally, but this case is anything but normal for you love fairies."

That got Kyu curious. "I'm sure it's nothing I couldn't handle. C'mon, big shot, lay it on me!" she announced, impatiently tossing her HunieBee up and down with one hand. The Goddess snapped her fingers and Kyu's HunieBee buzzed right after. The fairy looked at the details of the supposed "abnormal" client on her device and read out loud, "Mike Fletcher, little to no dating experience, student at University of Glenberry, jobless, no friends, lives alone, favorite hangout: Bar and Lounge…" Kyu raised an eyebrow, "Hey, not to doubt your opinion or anything, but this to me seems like business as usual."

"Now now, Kyu, where would the fun be if I told you the reason as to why this person is special? Go down there and figure it out yourself," Venus said bemusedly.

The love fairy smirked and turned to walk towards the massive doors. "Alright then, I love me a good challenge!"

As she reached out to push the doors open, she heard, "May I give you one piece of advice? This client is not the same as the ones that you have dealt with before… do remember to be ready to handle this with a different approach."

Kyu rolled her eyes at that. "Psh, yeah okay, see ya!" As soon as the doors were shut behind her, the fairy teleported to her home.

She immediately began packing her things, although it wasn't like she had to bring anything physically; she just needed to make sure that everything she needed was in a specific case that her HunieBee had access to. "Let's see… panties, lube, a HunieBee, toothbrush, all my outfits are in here too, alright! Everything is here, time to go make some munie, baby!" The love fairy changed her outfit and teleported to Earth.

Kyu landed in an alleyway near a small bar named Blue Root Spot. It was snowing slightly, indicating the soon arrival of winter. The people walking around the streets were already wearing medium-thick clothing which made Kyu seem like a lunatic, not that she cared of course; she was thinking about the easy score that awaited her. The fairy patted herself from top to bottom, making sure her outfit was clean and neat before walking into the bar.

Taking a second to look around, the bar was a decent size. On the left of the entrance was the counter where only one bartender served drinks. On the right were sets of small couches accompanied by a round table. There were only nine people occupying the place, most of them jobless-looking saps. The bar was nothing special. It was the kind of bar that screamed "expensive" with how high class it looked, and maybe it was at one point, but her practiced eye could tell it was now on the verge of being bankrupt.

The now-brunette walked over to the right while observing the place, trying to find her target of interest, and attracting the attention of nearby men. One of them approached Kyu with a fake gentlemanly attitude that she saw right through. "Hey there beautiful, would you want to-"

"Sorry, you ain't my type, dude," Kyu shot the man down without batting an eye as she continued walking.

The man glared at her back. "Tch, fucking whore."

"You're damn right about that," Kyu thought with a small smirk.

Leaning against the wall, Kyu took out her HunieBee and scanned the area. The magical device made a beeping sound and showed that her target was on the left side of the bar via a red dot in the tracking software. The fairy looked over to the counter, and wouldn't you know it, there he was! "Bingo. Seems like he's trying to get a bottle of whiskey… wait, an entire fucking bottle? He looks out of it… better stop him before he goes any further!"

Kyu walked up to the person in question at a casual pace and greeted him.

"Hi there!"

"What the fuck am I doing?"

The air was cold; it was comparable to the coldness Mike felt on the inside. Sitting on the edge of a dangerously high building was a drunk man with an empty bottle of cheap whiskey.

"Weird, I've always had a fear of heights, but when I need it most it doesn't affect me whatsoever."

Mike thought about everything that happened in the past six months. With a slight tilt of his head, he looked down with emotionless eyes.

"One move and I can end it all, right here, right now."

Mike didn't know how long he had been sitting there, swaying his legs with the cold wind. It must have been more than an hour. The fact that nobody was here trying to stop him from making a "mistake" emphasized the reality that there was no one left in this damned world who knew about him, let alone cared. Mike wasn't sad about it, though; there wasn't a lot he could be sad over anymore. "Unfeeling" was the only way he could describe his current self.

The man slowly scooted himself towards his release before sighing and backing out.

Mike descended the building and entered the bar right across it.

Sitting down, he ordered a glass of whiskey and downed it in no time. Drunk as he may have been, he just couldn't care less anymore: The drunker he was, the better. He thought about buying another bottle just to see if he could handle it. Money wasn't a problem so it was definitely within his capabilities to buy another. "I feel like I should at least spend all my savings before going," he thought before speaking up. "Yo, bartender, can I have another-"

"Hi there!"

Mike was interrupted by an enthusiastic woman's voice. He side-eyed the source of it and found himself looking at a beautiful young woman.

The girl had brown hair that practically shone with health and flowed down to her shoulders. It seemed to sparkle even under the dim lights, just like her eyes that stared into his soul, in fact, they were the most vibrant green he had seen in his entire life. She wore a nice bright red cocktail dress with an upside-down heart right in between the bottom of her chest, along with a black underskirt that fitted perfectly with her dress. She accessorized with a black, silky-looking band on one of her wrists and had a small black bow and ribbon on her dress to give her outfit more flair. The dress was revealing enough to show some skin while leaving any onlooker hungry to see what it covered. Putting this much effort into her appearance said that she wasn't here just to go out: She was here with a purpose.

Looking at this lady, Mike felt a spark of emotion light up inside him again, if only a spark, and couldn't help but be a little flustered. He couldn't say that he had interacted with a lot of girls. Before he could make a fool out of himself, he got his thoughts back together and asked, "You talking to me, miss?"

"You bet I am!" The woman ran her fingers through her hair as she sat down next to him.

Judging by her actions, Mike had an idea of what she was after. "You want a drink? I'll pay."

"Heh, well don't mind if I do! Hey there, handsome, one mojito please!" the brunette happily chimed to the bartender. "So, what's your name, champ? Mine's Kyu." Kyu patiently waited for an answer, tapping her fingers on the counter.

"Isn't she acting a little too familiar with me? If it was the wrong person she could easily get hurt." It wasn't an unreasonable worry, there were a lot of bad people in this world after all. "Kyu? That's a weird name."

"Thaaanks," Kyu said unamused, her smile drooping for a bit before the bartender served her eagerly anticipated mojito and brought her smile back.

"So what's a pretty girl like you doing in a shitty bar all alone? Surely you didn't just decide to come here by yourself." Mike looked away from her, staring at the wall of alcohol behind the bar.

Kyu beamed happily after taking an elegant sip of her drink. "Well, my friends are all busy with work right now, and since I was bored, I figured I should walk around town just to kill some time, then I saw this place and decided to come in."

Mike sipped his whiskey without saying anything, waiting for her to continue.

"I saw you sitting here by yourself, I wanted to say hi and get to know you better." Kyu turned her body towards him and propped her head up with an elbow.

The way she said that so seductively and her gestures made Mike's brain scream. There was no doubt that the girl wanted to "get to know him better," and only one part of him at that. Mike didn't know how to react to the situation he was in. Was he supposed to go along with it? It was really rare for someone like him to get even a drop of interaction with a girl. He didn't take long to make up his mind.

"I'm not really in the mood for something like this." With all that had happened, getting intimate with a stranger was the furthest thing from Mike's mind at that moment. He thought about excuses to get out of this when he realized something. "So, it's getting kind of cold, isn't it?"

The question seemed out of left field to the woman. "Winter is getting closer by the day. What, is winter your favorite season?"

Mike looked down at the counter. "You could say that."

Memories of his past came flooding back. He was a lot more cheerful and happy back then, living a wealthy life with his family. If it was the old him talking to such an eye-catching girl, he'd probably be so flustered that he couldn't even form comprehensible sentences. But now, his focus on the negative side of life was letting him see through her.

"Say… what were you doing before you came in here?"

Kyu raised an eyebrow at the sudden question. "Like I said before, I was just walking around town."

Mike stared at Kyu for a few seconds, making her feel slightly uncomfortable. "You walked around town... with an outfit like that on?" He looked her up and down.

Slight panic rested upon Kyu's face as she realized that he saw through her lies. Trying to salvage the situation, Kyu thought of an explanation. "I'm supposed to go to a party somewhere else real soon-"

"The only place that does regular parties in this town is Lusties Nightclub, and it's closed. Besides, I was more talking about how cold it is right now."

"Uhm, my friends are the ones who're setting the party up-"

"You said all your friends are busy with work, and there's no way you're going to a random-ass party."

Kyu was struggling to form sentences with the way Mike kept poking holes in her lies.

The drunk man scoffed, "And of all the men to choose from, you choose the boring-ass guy sitting alone that looks like absolute shit, you bottom-feeding skank." Mike put some cash on the counter and stood up before walking out of the bar.

Seeing her opportunity leave, Kyu chugged her drink and went outside after him. Rushing out the entrance, Kyu looked everywhere for her target and saw him across the street.

"Wait, hold on! Where are you going-" the fairy shouted as she ran after him.

"I know what you want, and I suggest you look for some other guy to mess with."

"Wait, just hold on a sec!" Kyu grabbed his arm before he could walk any further.

Mike looked over his shoulder, waiting for her to speak so he could go home.

"Jeez… is that any way to treat a lady?"

Mike's patience was running thin, and Kyu could see it.

The fairy didn't know what to say at this point, so she just said the same thing she'd say to her clients when they first interacted, if usually for a different reason, "Look, dude, are you gonna be alright? Looks like you're having some trouble holding it together over there."

Mike narrowed his eyes at the girl. "First, you are no lady. Second, what's it to you?" Before Kyu could say anything, Mike pulled his arm free from her grasp. "I'm fine," Mike said and walked away.

Kyu was left confused and standing in the middle of the cold streets.

"What the fuck just happened?"

It started snowing just after.
